Bunting gets 3 PLAYOFF games for that hit to the head? Wow.. seems harsh in comparison to past decisions.. what happens when a guy commits a real 1st degree hit to the head, or run from behind?

Didn't the refs and league decide they didn't like Bunting a couple months ago? Maybe he's their new Kadri?

Appears that way.

Even if they don't like the player.. The NHL shouldn't be handing playoff games to opponents

Funniest comment I've seen regarding his suspension: "Bunting suspended for the remainder of the Leafs season." rofl

Bunting has been a punk all year. He's probably been snarky with every ref in the league by now and is constantly starting crap out of nowhere. Wouldn't be surprised if Bunting set up that he would eventually make a hit like that with his yapping earlier in the game.

There is something about the Leafs team that seems to require they have 1 unhinged player. Kadri before, now Bunting. Maybe because there is such a deficit in players that mix it up with the opposition, 1 guy always ends up feeling like he has to compensate for 17 others.

Pretty funny in Carolina. They're chanting "ref you suck" despite being given 12 minutes of powerplays to the Islanders 2. Complaining about the refs is a sign of weakness.

Refs gave LA 10 minutes of PP time.. Oilers had 3.. that was not the true ratio of infractions committed that game.. the one in OT should count as a triple.. so 14 to 3.

Think our game 1 was an exception. I think the refs really wanted to put the whistles away in the 2nd and on but we kept doing super obvious dumb stuff that they had to call.

The weak call of that game was on Bouch in the 1st. After that, mostly automatic stuff. We can do better.

That call wasn't bad either. I thought it was when I first saw the King go down, but when he was on the ice, Bouchard grabbed his face and shoved him back down. Not sure when the hand went up, but he got his licks in on that one too.

There's lots of plays uncalled that could be debated, but the team was rough and undisciplined.

Interesting to see the highstick not called in Carolina though...that looked pretty obvious and then to immediately result in a goal...

Think that Bouch call was just for the initial push and the player dived. Then that made Bouch go nuts when he realized he was getting called lol. And unfortunately that carried over to that bad hot attempt with 2 mins to go on Moore

Ding Ding Ding.
A properly timed complaint to a ref can be a good strategy. Doing it consistently is what bad teams, players, fans resort to when they are out of ideas to fix a problem.

Ugh, tuned into this Colorado Seattle game just in time to see Eberle choke on a wide open net at the end of the 2nd. Seattle very competitive, would be nice if they could take the Avs out.

The Rangers/Devils series is going exactly like I expected.

The Devils are a hardcore advanced stats team. Their defense is full of not overly tough/physical, hard to play against dmen. Lots of good skating puck movers. Their forwards are full of smaller, faster, skill guys who aren't overly physical. They targeted Meier because they needed someone in their top 9 with some kind of bite and size. Down the middle they are extremely smaller.
Hischier - 6'1 175
Hughes - 5'11 175
Haula - 5'11 191

The Rangers defense is bigger, meaner and more physical. They are much bigger and more physical down the middle and bigger overall. They might not be quite as fast or quite as skilled as the Devils but they aren't that far off. Plus they have the better goalie. This series won't be close. Maybe the Devils can win a game. Anything is possible but I'd be surprised if it went to 6 games.

Rangers are pretty stacked. Especially if Kane was saving himself for playoffs and is gonna perform. Plus a great goalie when he's on. Devils have a load of kids that never experienced playoffs. Not too surprising if they get stomped. Better luck next year to them.

Maybe this is more of my "neanderthal" thinking as I have been accused of in the past but I could see the Devils being a very good regular reason team that struggles in the playoffs when the hockey changes because they are small up front, especially down the middle.

Yeah I could see that too. Been Carolina's issue for a long time now. I would expect Jersey to be able to climb out of just being first round fodder like they are acting right now though. But, all the way with their current makeup? Doesn't seem likely.

Watching the Bruins-Panthers. I don’t have a horse in that race. Bruins seem to be getting same favorable treatment as the Kings. Chintzy calls on the Panthers, Bruins getting away with everything but murder, and a PP goal allowed after the whistle 100% blew before the puck crossed the line. NVM “in the process of blowing the ply dead”. The whistle can be heard before the puck goes in, but referee after waving it off decides it’s a good goal. Crazy.

I saw that.. guy waves it off .. the whistle is blown.. and Marchand gets a goal after shoveling his stick under the goalie's pads (which was on top of the puck). I've never seen a goal allowed after the whistle blows.
NHL officiating.. from on ice, video review, to suspension and discipline are a laughing stock.. bush league from top to bottom.

We'll see what Bizarro universe Kozari and Lee create tonight vs. Oilers.

O'Reilly was a very good add. He's been in on most of the big moments for the Leafs in the playoffs so far. Pretty annoying that the Leafs finally added a good vet.

If we're comparing adds, how about that Jeannot? Looks like a guy that is playing exactly like he did before they got him, like a 4th liner. At the low cost of Cal Foote, a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th.

You let the hockey world down BriseBois.

Surprised Makar only got 1 game (well.. to be honest considering DPS.. not surprised)
Makar probably should have got a 5 and and a game during the game.. McCann got hit 5 sec after the puck was shot out.. on-ice refs downgraded it from initial 5+game call to 2m minor after review.. then.. DPS reviews and decides.. no it really did deserve a game.. gotta love NHL consistency..
Seattle's 40 goal scorer McCann is out for game 5 and longer.

Was thinking the longer the suspension was the more embarrassing it would be for the refs that reviewed and downgraded the call. They may have picked a middle ground. League clowns stick together!

To put NHL officiating in context (with itself).. Makar got the same penalty (2 min) as Leon got for tapping Doughty's shin pad.

If you want to get more annoyed, watch that replay of Drai again. He never even touched Doughty. His stick hit the ice a foot away from him. Drai basically got a penalty for being too mean in the vicinity of a kings player.

Agreed - that's a pathetic call from the DoPS, and in my estimation clearly based upon the stature and significance of Makar vs. Bunting. How does Bunting get 3 and Makar gets 1 for a more dangerous (and catastrophic) hit ...

That said, I agree with Makar's defenders who note that he is not a dirty player - but even clean and well-intentioned players can make poor decisions that are outside the boundaries and deserve significant punishment.

Easy answer. Makar is a star player, Bunting is not. There are different rules for different players. Even the whole repeat offender BS, I don't totally agree with. There should be a set min for whatever offense. So if a player drills a guy in the back it's worth X amount of games regardless if it's a goon or a superstar. Then if you want to add on extra games for repeat offenders, you say player gets these additional games because it's his 2, 3rd, whatever time.

Honestly, the play that most reminded me of was Hunter on Turgeon, other than the fact McCann didn't score and didn't get his jaw broken. Still, similar in that it was WAAAY after the play and totally unnecessary.

Really nails him too. His arm pushes McCann's head hard into the boards, probably did most of the damage. Everyone says Cale is not dirty, but I've seen him start to develop a cocky mean streak. He tries to catch guys a lot more now and skates away looking like an innocent little boy with his bright red rosacea cheeks. I think we'll see him work his way onto a giordano/edler type of path as he gets older.

That's an expensive decision, and sadly, the right one. I'd have loved to see him continue to crush the souls of the Flames' best players night in and night out for another couple of years.

Fortunately, there's still a lot of good options out there for the Flames. Dallas Eakins, for example, is out of a job. Who better to re-teach your NHL team how to play defence?

Oilers alumnus Alex Stalock up for the Masterton this year. Also Kris Letang and Clayton Keller. I have to think Letang wins because no one knows who Stalock is and Letang's had strokes...

Letang still playing is amazing. But really, it's an honor just to be nominated.
