I still prefer 11/7. You get some great 4th matchups when you double shift 97 or 29, but Broberg gets the 5v5 while Vinny is a PK specialist.

Why did they call up Pickard? Just to have an emergency goalie ready??

Hopefully just to get some playoff vibe experience and take some extra shots in practice. I don't want Stewie doing anything but resting, stretching, and stopping the other team.

Bakersfield's season is done, so they're slowly assembling the black aces. Holloway was the first call-up, now Pickard. I expect Niemelainen and Demers will be up too. Maybe a couple more forwards.

Skinner is starting. Right call.
I wonder if there should have been alternating between Skinner and Campbell at the start of this series.
Skinner needs to control those rebounds.

Minnesota alternated for the last half of the season and tried to continue it into the playoffs. I don' think it's a viable strategy.

I agree with starting Skinner. I'd like to think that Skinner has the mental toughness to handle if he didn't get the start but why risk it. So much of goaltending seems to be mental. You made him the starter at the start of March. To just abandon him so quickly could affect him.

Game of Skinner's life. Yuge for him if he rises to the moment. And gd it oilers, stop the trash defending and give the guy a fair chance.

Yesterday I was hoping Campbell would get the start, but I feel there is just too much hunch involved in that thought process now.
Woody will look awful if he sends Campbell out there and he gets lit. Also, I feel Campbell coming in to relieve Skinner is a better situation than Skinner coming to to relieve Campbell tonight if he turds the sheets.
I still feel we will see Campbell again this spring unless Skinner puts his stamp on the playoffs tonight though.

The Oilers played their worst period in probably 2 months last game. They took the Kings best punch and were able to get back up and win. I hope they take it too them tonight.
I am hoping in general the Oilers are confident and feeling determined to leave no doubt. For the majority of the series, they have been the better team in my opinion and it's taken them shooting themselves in the foot, some bad luck, bad reffing and the Kings goalie standing on his head to keep the Kings in it. Put the pedal down and just beat them!

I am curious who they start. I assume Skinner as if you have a starter, normally you go back to them right away.

It seems every game is super important and the same can be said today. Think it is fair to say game 5 is a critical point in this series. Whoever comes out the winner will have the best chance to move on to round two. Bring it on baby.

You know how Sportsnet has the starts on whomever wins X game wins the series X% of the time..
Where do we find such a stat?

Game five in a 2-2 series is my favorite playoff scenario. The difference between being up 3-2 and down 3-2 is almost immeasurable but it doesn't have the same fearful play that the finality of a game 7 creates. The push to win this game creates excellence. I'm really looking forward to tonight.

Got pulled over and got a warning for speeding 20 minutes into my trek to god’s country.
Unlike the Oilers I tend to come out of the gates pedal to the metal.
LFG from the cheap seats tonight!

Oscargasm wrote on Tue, 25 April 2023 12:12 | And then McIsaac, wasn’t he one of the refs in that game a couple years back v Chicago where there were like 16 penalties called or some crap?
Edit: just last year actually, oilers 10 penalties and Chicago 7. Lol. 14 of those penalties called in the 2nd period.

OK, maybe these refs are the "memorable" type.. not ideal.

Found this posted on LT's site..
Pretty funny.. in retrospect that acting job by Arvedsson should've got a game suspension for gross embellishment violating NHL player code of conduct (if one existed).. the subsequent fake injury and walk down the tunnel was even worse.

To be fair to Arvidsson, with the amount of air he got, plus the spin, that landing had to hurt his hip a bit. Feel like the hockey gods need to start dishing out some injuries off of clown show dives like that one.

Doughty has to be the worst of the bunch. He's a dirty player but is the first to throw up his hands when anyone gets touched. Debrusk mini called him out I think in game 2 calling him a "cagey" vet when he drew a tripping penalty I think when he dropped like he was shot. Then the Kane penalty. He wraps his arm around Kane's stick and directs himself to the boards forcing Kane to squeeze him into the boards. The only thing Kane could have done was drop his stick and try to yank his arms out of Doughty's grasp.
I'd love to know, do the refs watch video of the games they call? When they watch the video of Arvidsson I think not even touching Nurse then flying in the air, your Doughty holding Kane's stick creating the penalty, does it impact them? The Kings are literally showing them up.
