I am not sure what the Kings could do differently as they are playing exactly how I have heard they play. The Oilers are the better team on paper so the fact they have controlled most of both games isn't a surprise. The Kings rely on their goalie to keep them in it and he has done that.
If I am the Oilers, I do exactly the same thing. It's only a matter of time before McD explodes, his line has dominated, generated chances and has done everything except score. They need to stay out of the box and don't get sucked in to the Kings crap as that team is full of rats. Now that they aren't at home and don't have entertaining the fans on their mind, I would take the Kings passive approach to my advantage especially if the Oilers are in the lead. If they don't wan to forecheck at all, stand in your zone and just burn clock. Just stand there. Have your d partner 10 ft apart and play pass. Do circles around the net. The Kings count on the other team turning the puck over and counter attacking so don't let them do that. Use their passiveness to your advantage. Make them have to get out of their normal game plan and open it up.

LA has acknowledged they have to start better. Oilers need to maintain their fired out of a rocket start and grab the momentum.

Can't say I'm not thrilled with the team finally, after all these years, not waiting 15-20 minutes to start playing. Hope to see it again tonight!

The question I would like to have answered from the Kings is how do you start better when your game plan is to sit back and wait for the other team to come at you? I am not a pro coach so I'd love to know how they have better starts and take the game to the opposition when on purpose they don't hardly forecheck, they sit back and wait for the other team to make a mistake. So if the Oilers are making tape to tap passes like they are, they aren't trying to pass through the middle where there is a wall of Kings waiting and they are just dumping it in like they are instead of trying to deke through the 5 Kings like the Kings want, how do you have a better start unless you play a more aggressive style?

Oilers acknowledged they needed to start better for 4 years. Easier said than done. This is a good road team. I have high hopes and here is to Skinner rounding into form. He’s been slightly below average so far. Love to see him make a big save early and then have the team rally around him.
Tonight McDavid goes full MVP.

I think Skinner has been decent but I don't think he has been outstanding. Korpisalo has been the better goalie in my opinion. But Skinner has done what the team needs him to do, be decent, don't give the game away and let the Oilers who are the superior team do their thing. I could see Skinner having a big game in one of the next 2, he's due.

Couple things for me; Skinner hasn’t had to be outstanding, yet. The team has done a fairly good job limiting the high event chances while effectively tilting the ice the other way. Kings have been gifted powerplays by undisciplined play from the Oil, had some fortuitous bounces and momentum inspired chances so far but despite winning game 1… the Kings haven’t played a single second of hockey with a lead this postseason yet.
I don’t miss The Toddfather.

I haven't looked, but I believe (based on bad memories) the Oilers' record on my birthday hasn't been great - when they are playing in late April (again, which hasn't been as often as we'd like) so I'm expecting a loss tonight.
Hope they prove me wrong and take both these games

Happy birthday brother. My thing is injuries, I just have a weird sense the team will have a few players unable to go by the time they return to E-town.

Oilers dead last in (PP time on ice)/GM in the play offs.. by a far margin
https://twitter.com/manveerminhas/status/1649128032152743937 ?cxt=HHwWgsDTmabN8OItAAAA
Biggest lie uttered by NHL PxP commentators.. during a replay of an Oiler penalty .. "the refs are going to make that call 100% of the time.."
.. no they don't.. they choose not to make similar calls routinely.. its a feature, not a bug.

If the Oilers want more PP's, it's pretty simple. They have to play the "game" when it comes to the refs. As Debrusk put it when Doughty flopped and drew a call. They have to be "cagey". Diving is a swear word to the NHL but "cagey" is acceptable. The Oilers best players like McD and Leon fight through stuff too much and try to still make a play because sometimes they can.
When a guy hooks McD or Leon, they need to do what the Kings do, grab on to the stick and make it look worse than it is, fall down or spin around a bit. Make that hook or hold look way worse than it is.

I think the best we can hope for in this series is ~2 powerplays per game for both teams. That would be if we did nothing dumb like we did in the first 2 games. Refs don't want to give us easy goals with PP opportunities.
We're breaking typical game management with our PP being so good. The refs don't want to call anything so they can avoid giving us too many opportunities. But if we take dumb penalties, we can also not expect to get game management calls in our favor because the refs are scared of how likely it will turn into a goal.

I 100% believe how good the Oilers PP is, is playing into the refs mind. The refs know if they give the Oilers a PP, it's almost an automatic they will score on it. So it takes a lot to get a call.

You're probably right - but if so, then NHL referees are an even more pathetic, weak-willed, and ignorant bunch of useless bums than I had previously thought. What an absolutely embarrassing line of justification for an obviously unbalanced treatment of team infractions. That's even worse than the whole "if I call that hook on Connor, I'll have to call all 20 hooks on McDavid each game" reason for so rarely calling infractions committed against McDavid.

With McD, I think part of its how you put it. I think there might be a couple of players in the league who can maybe match McD's speed if it's just a straight up foot race. I think back to the all star game. But McD is by far the fastest player in the NHL who can completely control the puck while skating at full speed, most players have to slow down to control the puck and do what McD can do. So I do think at times, the refs physically aren't in position to make a call because McD blows by them. I do also think what you said is true that in order to be able to have a chance to keep up with McD and try to defend him, the opposition has to cheat. So hook, hold, trip, etc. So a ref could probably call a legit penalty on every shift. So they can't/won't do it.
But I do think the refs are pathetic and weak because I can't for the life of me explain how they can see an Oiler players dragged to the ice and not call anything, then give the Oilers a ticky tack trip 15 seconds later. I think of game 1 when Foegele was tackled in the offensive zone in OT and nothing gets called. That is stopping an offensive chance. Then maybe 15 seconds later, they give Desharnais a pretty weak tripping call. OR, you will see an Oilers get a slashing call. Both sides slash all the time but then Lizzote gives Deharnaris a straight up closed fist punch with his glove on to the face and nothing. So something has to be up. There is just too many extremes to not have something up and I think it's the Oilers PP.
Realistically, if the refs gave the Oilers 4 PP's last game to match the Kings, I bet the Oilers score on half of them. There's the game.

Gotta give a little love to the oilers for showing up at the start of multiple games in a row in this series already. That is something that never used to happen, for over a decade. Do it again!

Are you sure you're actually an Oilers fan? Talking about how Draisaitl needs to fight more and calling Nurse an idiot in the pre-game thread? Really?

Hey Adam, thanks for asking, for the record I am a hockey fan. Lets be real, Drai fight more, he doesn't fight at all. As for Nurse, take another look at where he was on the goal that was scored in the last minute of the first period. Also have second look at what he was doing on the final goal of the first game. Nurse is a good player who happens to do dumb things.
