Crappiest 5-2 win ever!
Oh well, on to the games that really matter

The Oil did their job, now to see if the Kraken can do theirs....

Apparently this was McDavid's 2nd most impressive season

He really did blow the doors off in that shortened season. Left everyone in the dust even more than this year. Lots of rebuilding Ottawa games though :)

Yeah, that Covid season was unbelievable and nobody knows about it.
Although leading in both assists and goals didn’t happen that year.
Clean house or bust

Funniest McDavid stat of this season, his 47.06% GF (8 for, 9 against) on the PK (by a good margin the league leader for anyone that had 100 mins+ of PK time) was better than what our bottom 6 lines were able to do at 5v5 for many years before this season.

LA it is. How hard could it be total down a team coached by the Toddfather?

Hopefully, it will go like last year did but easier.

Ekholm, Bjugstad, Kostin, Desharnais, Janmark were not in the line up last season..
All bigger bodies, more physicality.. should cancel out whatever physical edge LA thought they had..
Ekholm, Desharnais, plus a revitalized Bouchard & Nurse is a huge upgrade in defense..
PK is much better with Bjugstad and Ekholm
and Skinner is playing like legit #1 goaltender
Good times!
McDAVID! Oh YEAH Baby!!
Tic-Tac-Tao!
Keep on Rockin' in the Free World
P. Chiarelli math.. T. Hall = A. Larsson, Yak= bag o'pucks (OK he got one right...) K. Russell = $4.1 M+NMC, G. Reinhart= M. Barzal + A. Beauvillier, J. Eberle = R. Spooner,

Solid win to cap off a fantastic regular season. Congrats to Connor on another Art Ross & first Rocket Richard (and hopefully Hart and Conn Smythe)
Now time for the real games to start. Pretty happy that we're playing LA rather than Winnipeg - Hallebuyck has the ability to win a series pretty much singlehandedly. Hopefully the Jets & Vegas beat the heck out of each other in a drawn out 7 game series.
That said, can't get ahead of ourselves - play the Kings the same way we did the last couple of games & we'll be fine. I just hope they don't start taking retaliatory runs at Connor after his hit on whatshisface last time round.

I’m happy they are playing the Kings as well.
Retaliation? Please do. We have Kane and the best PP in history. Doughty will be Kane’s beatch.

What a finish to the season. Can't believe we ran the table after that OTL against Vegas and still couldn't catch them.
Anyway - with an Oilers rookie record 29 wins and a final stat line of 29-14-5, 2.75GAA, .914 Save% (and 2 assists ), Skinner gets my vote for the Calder. Easily ahead of Beniers and his 57 points. I'd probably even have Owen Power ahead of Beniers.
And how about Ekholm? 21GP, 4-10-14, and a ridiculous +28! The team has gone 18-2-1. The team has only allowed 56 goals in those 21 games for a GA of 2.67 which would be good for 6th in the NHL. In the 7 games since March 30, they've only allowed 6 goals for a ridiculous 0.857 GA/game!
Certainly the best deadline acquisition in the league this year - is the the best Oilers deadline acquisition ever?

See how the post-season goes ... at this point, I'd say Dwayne Roloson trumps Ekholm as best deadline acquisition ever.

Good win. I don't think this was their A game but I wasn't expecting them to bring their best nor did I really want them to be going all out right before the playoffs. I just wanted them to win and to come away healthy and I think they did.
On to the Kings.

You can see from the ice time last night that the Oilers coaching staff, while they wanted the win, were making sure not to take a lot of risks. No Oilers forward reached 19 minutes of icetime - the team leader up front was Ryan McLeod with 18:03. On the blueline, the highest (Nurse 21:11) and lowest (Desharnais 17:46) isn't a big spread either and that's with Desharnais getting shaken up in the first.
We also saw a lot more icetime for the second powerplay unit - almost half of each PP (other than the one Draisaitl scored on). McDavid and Draisaitl barely touched the ice on the penalty kill too.
This was a game where the key was caution and the team still won it handily, so that's great news. Hopefully we can keep our streak going next week...I'm expecting to be outraged in game one with the Kings goon tactics by the 10 minute mark of the first period of Game One.
