The Avs swept us in the playoffs, and then have beat us in overtime in both games this year. Would love to throw that monkey off our back tonight and stomp all over it.
MacKinnon has been on fire lately. I'd love to see us play him really hard and keep him in check. There's a good chance we have to go through these guys if we want to get to the Finals, so gaining a little confidence that we can beat them would be huge.

I think the Norris Division playoffs will be fantastic. All three teams are very good and can all make a strong claim to winning two rounds. Throwing the Seattle Chaos or violent Kings into the mix will only make things more interesting.

We also didn't have Ekholm the last two times we played them did we? Hopefully he can help keep him in check.
The way the Avs have been coming on of late, I suspect this will be a preview of the WCF again, though to be honest I haven't looked at the different matchups to see if that's even possible, or if we'd meet in the semi.

We can't meet them before that. They will finish 1 or 2 in the Central (Norris) Division, while we're going to finish 1 or 2 in the West (Smythe) Division. Their most likely first round opponents are Seattle, Los Angeles or Minnesota (with a slight chance of playing Dallas) and then in the second round they'll face the survivor of that group.
Meanwhile our first round opponents are either Los Angeles or Winnipeg with a tiny chance at the Kraken. Then we play the winner of the Golden Knights and the survivor of that other group.
In the Western Conference Final is the first chance we have to play Colorado (or Dallas or Minnesota).

Avs D will be on their heels all night.. McDavid will have their heads spinning.
Avs haven't seen Ekholm as an Oiler yet.. and the effect he's had on the the Oiler D in general.
Suspect it'll come down to how pathetic the refs decide to be.

When the Oilers played the Avs both times losing to them in OT both time, they didn't have Bjugstad, Ekholm, Kane or Desharnais in their line up. All 4 of those guys are big, physical guys who are all good players. Pretty they are a different team.

Yeah I forgot about the the other 3.. Desharnais really helps in breaking the cycle against Avs big forwards.. more puck retrievals.. the puck will be moving up the ice more frequently.. it'll force Avs to adjust their forecheck pressure.. Suspect Desharnais will get under a lot of Av forward's skins.. which will be fun.
.. plus the Avs will have their hands full with the addition of Kane and Bjugstad, bigger bodies, more physical .. I expect our 3rd line will get some good looks.
It'll be an interesting game.
