Cost me a 12 piece nugget from Popeyes to get an update, but Oilers have been informed Karlsson will accept a move to Edmonton.

Feel free to start a gofundme if you need additional meal bribe funds. I'm sure Oilfans got your back.

Another bonus if Karlsson came would be he'd be a great mentor in helping develop Broberg towards his potential, a star Swede defensman with cache, and some of Karlsson's physical skills are also in Broberg's wheelhouse, and begging for development.

While there is Karlsson, and to a now lesser extent Chychrun, interest and convos, Oilers were scouting one Colton Parayko last night in addition to Noel Acciari

Parayko has had his career really derailed by some bad injuries, no? Would be pretty risky to gamble on him returning to form, about to turn 30.

Huge dude with lingering back injuries. Scary to take that on. Larsson did finally recover it seems from his but parayko is even more massive of a guy and so unpredictable how that stuff keeps coming back.

After seeing what the Leafs did with reducing O'Reilly's cap hit with a 3 team deal.. I hope the Oilers at least tried to make one happen if they go after Karlsson..

it is a lot easier to do with an expiring contract, asking a team to take on cap, for the remainder of the season in a year they don't need cap space is one thing, with a real dollar cost of a $74,000 vs eating up cap space for years and a real money cost of >9 mill, its a huge difference. If the first one cost a 4th rounder, I don't want to see the cost of the second one.

Of course, one does not have to get the other GM to take ALL the years. They can take up to 50% in any of the years but it doesn’t have to be the same.

Ideally, if we were doing that deal we would want him cheap for all the years but if you even got San Jose to do half of all, and someone else to do half of half for 1 or 2 years, that’s still way better. Unless they throw in Bouchard in which case we are run by morons.

Crazy trade proposal idea here involving Edm, SJ, & Chi.

To Edm: Patrick Kane (@2.625M) & Erik Karlsson (@5M)

To Chi: (5.25M retained on Kane) + (3.25M retained on Karlsson via SJ),
Barrie + Bougeaux, + Edm 2024 1st round pick

To SJ: (3.25M retained on Karlsson), + (2.65M retained on Kane via Chi)
Puljujarvi, + Reid Schaefer, + Edm 2023 1st

This really empties the prospect cupboard for to the Oilers, however I think this is what going all in looks like, while not taking anything off the main roster aside from the 2 that are immediately being upgraded. Kane >>>>>>>> Puljujarvi and Karlsson >>>>>>>>> Barrie. Cap works out almost a wash for the Oilers. Not sure this is quite enough for SJ, but Chi has lots of space and I think they come out quite well in this deal. Maybe a couple other prospects and/lower picks need to be involved.

The way I see it, the West is wide open for the taking this year and Kane + Karlsson would put the Oilers in a great spot to get to the SCF. Then you still have Karlsson @5M moving forward, and maybe a shot at re-signing Kane.

Keep seeing Patty Kane mentions with Oilers. He put up a hat trick tonight vs the Leafs, so obviously the Oilers would be even more interested immediately after that.

P.Kane and Parayko, come on down boys!

Kane has some sick sick hands.. replace RNH with him on the PP and its lights out.. instead of McD having to carry around the puck opening up other guys for the shot.. Kane could do some of it.. its the 5x5 play that I'm not sure about.. but would be fun to find out.. if the cost wasn't insane.. which it will be..

It shouldn't be. It's a $10MM cap hit and recent success aside, he's looked laboured this year and is rumoured to have a bad hip. He's got a no-move clause and wants to use it to go to a contender. From the sounds of it, there have been very few teams that he's made available to the Blackhawks - and two them have already made their big moves.

Even with the 'Hawks keeping half - which isn't a big ask given it's only the rest of this season, and they have no other need of that cap space - I don't think there's a huge haul out there for them. The music is slowing down and the number of chairs left are dwindling - and with Toews done for the year, the Blackhawks are likely to be desperate.

Now, it IS Ken Holland in our GM chair and as we know he doesn't think you can "win" trades, so all bets are off if it's Edmonton - but even there, our cap is so challenged and the creativity so lacking, it would be hard to see them finding a way to bring him here.

Now, it IS Ken Holland in our GM chair and as we know he doesn't think you can "win" trades, so all bets are off if it's Edmonton - but even there, our cap is so challenged and the creativity so lacking, it would be hard to see them finding a way to bring him here.

What do we expect, to get him for free?

Keith - yes. Kane - no. But certainly not the crazy prices being tossed around for a 34 year old possibly injured UFA to be. A couple of picks maybe. But not any stud prospects. Certainly not any stud prospects on top of multiple picks including 1st rounders

Naw, that’s the price of Karlsson. Kane would end up being much like the ROR deal. Though, the Oilers are trying to get a Lafferty deal done and build off of it to include Kane.

I heard Bob on the pregame radio broadcast talking up the idea that he thinks they really need a fast bottom six penalty killer as well as one more legit top six forward. I know he’s mentioned Lafferty 1000 times. Could a Lafferty/Kane deal be in the mix now that Toronto and NYR are probably not possibilities? Kane seems to have a bit of a burr in his saddle the last few games judging by the highlights. Could be a decent bet.

Wonder what the return would look like.

I was blown away to hear multiple talking heads talking Lafreniere or Kakko plus picks for UFA to be Kane. That sounds absolutely crazy to me. This would make the Erat for Forsberg trade look like a steal for the Caps. I would easily pay more for Chychrun than Kane, and even for him I wouldn't consider 21/22 year old 1st and 2nd overall picks. For a couple of months of Kane? Insanity.

PP isn't what needs the help. If Kane can play goal, defend/make a zone exit pass, or kill penalties well I'm down for it though.

Did you know that no defenceman since 2007-08 with 500+ minutes played has had goals scored against them at a higher clip at 5v5 than Joel Edmundson this season?

The Habs are giving up 4.35 goals per 60 with him on the ice.

2nd-worst was Brandon Manning in 18-19 (4.17).

I've seen this guy play. This is one of those times that the answer to "did you want me to get him for free" is an emphatic yes. Or have them give you something to take him off their hands. Giving up anything of substance, let alone a first+ is ludicrous.

But the real question is, do you think Holland noticed Edmundson's name BECAUSE of this article and now he's on our radar?

I always thought it was because of how similar his name is to Edmonton during TV broadcasts.

The Oilers have always been more attracted to players named Smith (of various spellings) are any of them available?

Luke Schenn is a scratch in Vancouver. Any interest? He’s no Karllson, but maybe he can be more of a defensive defencemen than what we have? I haven’t kept track of the player he’s developed into.

Big pass. Knock on him is he is easily overwhelmed down low. Doesn't use his size as well as he could either. He's just more of what we already got. We need a puck moving 2 way guy. Not just another defensive plug who chips it off the glass.

Keep hearing these D prices from media. Edmundson, 1st+. Ekholm, 2 1sts. Chychrun 2 1sts + good prospect.

Barrie must be worth a couple 1sts then, no? 3 game goal streak too. We never sell high on anything though, just buy the tops and sell the low.

Unless Karlsson is coming in, we don’t move Barrie. And by the sounds of it, Karlsson ain’t coming.

Karlsson has agreed to waive the no-trade for a trip to Edmonton as per Chris Johnson.
no word on SJ changing tune on the retained salary yet.

I keep reading the hold up is San Jose won't budge on 20% retention. They took over 30 with Burns.

I am on record as wanting Karlsson but not if the Sharks are barely retaining.

Holland is too stubborn and old school to find the way in making this happen.

Karlsson will not be an Oiler this season. Should the foreseeable and unfortunate demise occur (Oilers not winning the cup) then a “big” move will be done in the summer.

So what's the big move? In D you have Nurse as the big chip (little return), up front you have Hyman and maybe E Kane. Drai and McD ain't going anywhere.

The only real sustainable play the Oilers have on the trade market is to mortgage their future. You need to make cap space as well but getting rid of Yammo and JP and perhaps someone takes Nurse (not likely at that price tag). In the NHL it's you give something you get something. Holland has been shrewd in the past and he traded Lucic so anything can happen. There is also some dead cap space coming back. The team sending the player away also has to retain some money.

I think the Oilers have very limited space to make a major move.

Limited options.

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
