So you are saying Cogliano is a liar then? He literally did a LIVE radio interview with Gregor that 1000's of people heard, I repeated what he said that he thought he should be playing in a certain spot and doing certain things and he wouldn't accept anything less but it's the teams fault they couldn't make a grown ass man bend to their will. OK then.

The player is wrong and Adam is right. I stand corrected once again Adam. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways once again.

You are welcome.

As for players, they know what they're expected to say, and they're set up by questions from their interviewers. There's an expected way these things are always answered, and it's only notable when people go against that grain.

Some examples? Kadri had "tough love" from Dallas Eakins with the Toronto Marlies. It's unlikely it had anything to do with his future success. Eakins tried the same tricks with Yakupov and it just stripped the kid of confidence and ruined the prospect. Yet, Dallas Eakins has specifically said that he bears some responsibility for Kadri's post-Eakins success. Kadri, when asked about it, hasn't said much but what he has said was taking the path of least resistance and saying it was beneficial to him. Meanwhile, when asked years later about his experience with Pat Burns doing essentially the same thing to him as a rookie, Joe Thornton scoffed and said he didn't think he learned much sitting on his ass. He was more kind in his words after Burns' passing, but it was notable when he put lie to the trope.

There's a similar "change of scenery" trope in hockey coverage. People are often asked about why they're successful in their stops after leaving a market where they had some challenges (although, Cogliano didn't really have much actual challenges here - he had a relatively successful career as an Oiler during a time when the team just flat out sucked). The expected answer is always that the change was needed, and that they just developed more after that move. Is it true? Usually not.

"Thinking that a bad team's best players are the reason the team is bad is the "Tambellini re-signing Lennart Petrell" of sports opinions." @Woodguy55
