CAPS are pretty beat up. Very winnable game. Of course everything depends on goaltending.
...this time, it's for real (isn't it?).

Winnable game = Oilers assume snooze fest mode and drop a deuce everywhere on the ice.
This team is heading nowhere, super fast.

Baaaaad give away by one of the trio of whipping boys give Dylan Strome and the Caps the first period lead. Nice shot from Strome. Hard to blame Skinner on either the goal on non-goal. Still, you'd like him to stop some of those.

I said it before, I'll say it again. This year will mirror the year we got put out by the ducks. That following year expectations were high and we flat lined. This franchise had been plagued by a lack of prep and mental toughness for decades.

They're better this year than they were in 2018 and the division is weaker. I'm not afraid they'll miss the playoffs, but the flaws in the team are both evident and the same as they've been for the last decade. Bad depth and questionable D leading to inconsistent goaltending. If they don't outscore their problems, they'll lose.
It should be an entertaining year, but I'm not too worried about my summer being interrupted by the Stanley Cup Finals.

I can't see how this team makes the playoffs with goaltending Ala ty Conklin and Mike Morrison compounded with ZERO NHL top 4 Dman and useless wingers.

An older Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl can outscore a lot of problems.

Hot take competition?

Warren Foegele. Not an elite puck mover.

I dont think there was a call made on McLeod until the veteran kusnetzov got up and blatantly cross checked him. Textbook game management by team NHL.

2nd line and top pairing hemmed in and take a penalty.
Yams takes a bad penalty and it's a 5 on 3. Feck.

Feckin brutal. These guys need to get there heads out of their arses. Too many stupid unnecessary penalties, and doing little to earn a call when the refs are managing in favor of the Caps.
Also, I think Nuge and Hyman should play together more.

What an embarrassment for a team with starts like 97 and 29 to field scrubs ....the PK and Goaltending is ECHL level. I'd trade for Koski and Smith any day over these two timid net minders

Starting to fully realize the Oiler defense is NHL-substandard.
Washington has half their regulars and the Oilers can't even defend against the scrubs.
So many open guys floating around all the time.. zero position awareness.
That PK needs to be blown up.

I want in on this action too!
The Oilers are going to make the playoffs. The West is pathetic this year so far. There are only six teams in the black for goal differential (as opposed to nine plus two even in the East). The Oilers are one of those teams (along with Vegas, Dallas, Colorado, Winnipeg and Seattle). There's so many weak teams that even the ones who seemed to position themselves this summer for Connor Bedard, like Chicago and Arizona, can't separate themselves from the pack to sink in to the mire.
The Oilers are 6th in goal differential, 6th in points, 7th in points percentage and that's while playing below expectations for the bulk of the season. If Woodcroft can make some systemic adjustments and get a little more even performance from the group, especially on the PK (but also 5v5 where they're mediocre so far), then we'll vie for a division or conference title, never mind missing the playoffs.
So if anyone wants to make that $1000 bet that we're going to finish outside looking in? I'm ready to shake hands!

I think we can write the Ducks, Canucks, and Sharks out of the Pacific playoff race and the Coyotes and Blackhawks out of the Central. Leaving 11 teams for 8 spots. The path to missing the playoffs is the Blue, Wild, and Perds (especially the Blues) becoming competent and, most dangerous of all, the Kraken staying in contention.
Could the Oilers finish 5th in the Pacific behind Seattle? I do like their defense.

I'd take that action too.
Speaking of betting, I'm not a sports bettor, but I do play a lot of online poker, and my usual site started up a sport betting section and gave me some free bets, so I was just perusing the NHL bets. I was amazed that they gave 5 to 1 odds for the Red Wings to beat the Rangers on this past Sunday. It seemed too good to be true--I think any NHL team will beat any other NHL team 1 out of 5 times, so I would take that bet all the time for any match-up. What made it even stranger, is that the Wings and Rangers actually had similar records at the time. I'm still not sure what the odds makers were thinking.
Anyway I used my free bets on that game, which the Wings did win and they paid me my money. I haven't seen odds like this since, so I'm almost wondering if it was a mistake.
Edit: Ok, I just figured out why I got such good odds. I made the bet after the first period when the Rangers were already winning 2-0 (I didn't realize the game had already started). I just realized the site accepts bets mid-game. Now it makes sense--guess I just got lucky.

Did the Oilers have control of the puck 6-5? Did the Caps control it? Should the ref have whistled it down?
