No Cups

The team better start early in this one, and play a full 60 minutes. The Canes feast on teams that are lazy, and this Oilers iteration is showing that they are once again of the lazy variety.

For me, this start is inexcusable. How does Calgary already have a better connected and much more aggressive offense and defense, when they just turned over 50% of their core? How do they beat us with their backup goalie?

This team is supposed to be pushing to be a real contender this year, and so far they look like a team that won't make the playoffs.

I am not as panicked here. I think it's a less than ideal start, and that there's some weaknesses in how the team is defending right now - not just defence, but the whole team is a little sloppy. That stuff can be cleaned up. Starts could be a little better, and goaltending has been only meh so far. But none of this is necessarily fatal to the team's chances.

While I hated losing to Buffalo, the team outplayed them for the bulk of that game. We've carried the play for most of the nine periods so far this season. The first periods against Calgary and Vancouver were bad, and we had some breakdowns against Buffalo, but when the team turns it up, they have dominated all three foes. Some work to be done, but a lot of time to do that still.

Important to see them come out hard, and hopefully a little less breakdowns this time. It would be really good to end this mini-slide right away by beating a good team in Carolina.

I had this one as a probable loss even before they struggled vs. Flams and Buffalo.

If they win somehow it will be a great sign.

Update on Broberg.. apparently he has an UBI.. explains why he hasn't played in Bako yet.
Doesn't sound like he'll be a recall option anytime soon.

Winning this would probably reenergize this team and get us out of the funk.

But...these guys have had our number for a long time. Don't have a great feeling about it.
