Are we sure we're not missing an addition to the CBA that every borderline player has to be signed for minimum 2 years?
Congrats to Malone anyways. Appreciate how he tried to mix it up in his playoff games.

I assume it’s just a field in the template that Holland doesn’t realize can be adjusted. He’s probably just flummoxed when he hears that some other team only signs a bubble player for a single season.

That’s on the advanced stats guy. He’s the office excel wiz after all.

This signing has ZERO negative consequence. This is the org. doing a solid NHLer a solid. Treating people good goes a long way around the league.

Like how we did the solid for Koekkoek last year who just sort of disappeared off the radar screen, but who has an extra year on his deal. Or like the solid we did Turris when we gave him that second year and then told him he could just stay home from March on. Or the two year deal we gave Gryba, where we decided it would be too mean to just bury him in the minors for year two, so we bought him out causing cap consequences on ourselves, because he's a solid guy.
There is no need to give a 30+ journeyman AHL player a second year on a contract. Not the end of the world, because, unless the team has another Gryba moment, the deal can be buried with no impact to the cap. Still, kind of funny to give him two years at this point in his career.

No issue with the signing. Every young guy credits Malone with helping them in the AHL. Supposed to be a great leader, works his ass off. Helps young guys develop. Still can play at a high level in the AHL. Every AHL needs a few decent vets on the team. If you have to call him up, he can play on your 4th line, give you 8 mins. Won't score you a goal but will win some faceoffs, can kill penalties and not kill you. 2 way deal makes it a no brainer.

We always knew it would come down to Malone or Kane.

I think you're just making stuff up. Prove to me where you posted it was Malone or Kane.

I like what Malone brings as far as compete, faceoff ability and knowing his role. A two way deal is never a bad thing, despite the 2nd year.
Now, time to ship out Shore and Koekkoek to AZ to play in their 5,000 seater.

At Malone's point in his career he's almost a player/coach.. he can lead through passing on knowledge from a lengthy pro career, and is still able to execute at a high enough level in the AHL to serve as a good example, which legitimizes his leadership to the younger players.

After reading the arguments in favour of Malone, I am now mad at Holland for not signing him for 3 years. Seriously, a guy like this and you don't make sure you lock him up for 3+ years? Fool! For sure he we will regret not giving the extra year when Yzerman steals him

Sorry to distract from bashing nurse 24/7. Must focus on a single guy to pile on endlessly like proper Oilers fans.
Joking aside. Pointing out instances of this org being lazy and constantly giving up leverage, cap space, contract space/flexibility for no good reason continues to correctly reveal the overall trend and behaviour that manifests in many other poor moves and results. It may seem repetitive to complain about such things, but it is only because this org keeps doing the same types of things over and over that beg being pointed out.

does it count as repetitive if it's a new stupid thing we're complaining about so often?

I work for a branch of the Federal Government, and the Oilers and this site mirror my experiences as an employee.
I just might be the Brad Malone of the Feds, and I certainly know what incompetence looks like when given power. Mismanagement, smartest people in the room, and mismanaging money.
