It took 3 series before they got swept from the playoffs. PROGRESS!

But seriously, if Holland doesn't make REAL moves to address the goaltending and defence this offseason, he needs to be fired out of a cannon into the Sun.

Yep. Good times. Better than most seasons. Lots of work to do now to make this team into a true contender.

Fun run. Shame on Holland for not recognizing how good this team actually was with competent coaching and doing more to improve it down the stretch. Oh well, crossing fingers they can get lucky and pull another run next year.

Maybe if Holland makes competent moves to address the D and goaltending, they may not need to rely on luck so much....

So unless Skinner blossoms into Patrick Roy The Second, the Oilers are @#^#ed. Got it.

Keith retire.. Kassian retire.. trade Foogle.. trade Barrie.. too bad 9.25M is hitting the cap next year.

low ball McLeod, Bouchard, JP.. whatever they get on their next contracts they all need to be much better for the Oil to succeed.

Hope Nurse learns how to play defense.

For goal.. I don't think Skinner is the answer.. need a reliable, steady, goalie.

If they lose Kane they lost whatever they gained this year.. this team didn't look legit until he arrived.
I read on another blog that whatever Kane makes on his next contract will be deducted from the settlement he gets with SJ.. so I don't expect any decision until after that dust has settled.

Lots of GM'ing to do.. could be good decisions.. could be bad.

That was fun. It was nice to have hockey that mattered again. I really can't stand all the stupidity on this team though. The number of weird-ass goals that went in over the year just make life hard on this team, and make me not want to watch.

Go Rangers.

We can complain about players, dumb plays and the GM, but this team has done us proud this post season. Yes, work can be done to make us better, but this run will help this team in the long run. It hurts like mad we've been swpet, but I'm proud of this team, and it's been a while since we've been able to say that post season.

Still happy with the run too. Winning the BoA was sweet.

Weaknesses exposed over and over vs a great team. Probably could have competed more with Kostko in net now that we saw what Smith did but this org loves them some Smith. I hope Holland is not blind enough to not see Smith is not going to give you a full playoff run though. He was erratic and slow to react all series.

Nurse must have jack up on pain killer in the 3rd. Got a flash of old nurse. Hope he comes back strong and hungry next year. Hope he and drai can get back to 100%

I don't know about the rest of you, but I will always take the 29th overall pick on a fine summer day over a starting goaltender or top four dman.

They needed offence last 2 games and when they got it this game with 3 in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd, that somehow wasn't enough, because the chances against were going in. Needed timely stops and defending throughout these playoffs and when the goals weren't coming easy they pretty much always lost. When the goals came in bunches, that too often wasn't enough, like tonight.

Liked the level tonight from pretty much everyone. Smith let the big chances in and I'd say that goaltender has to be the priority in the offseason. Time to pass the torch, I dont care who it is but I'm done with Mike Smith getting starts, we've been there and done that enough. Oilers did not even achieve mediocrity in that position in this Colorado series.

I think the Oilers are definitely still alive in this series with timely stops and of course better health.

Sucks but the writing was on the wall here, would have loved them to reward the crowd with a win for the effort.

Hope they get back here next year to move on.

Avs just had another gear. I'm glad we didn't burn some valuable long term assets for a rental.

With guys that we have that are right on the threshold maturing, combined with vet additions like Hyman Ceci Kulak, we are headed in the right direction.

Now get the goalie situation straightened out and stable for the next 4/5 years.

We also got to burn Calgary. Win win.

Think nurse will look much better next year. Just said he tore his hip flexor. Smith will be worse for sure.

Darnell Nurse just let it be know he played through a torn hip flexor

That's a horrible injury for a Dman to be skating on with all the pivoting and push offs.

So many great things to take away from this.

We better see a Woodcroft extension by the weekend.

I can wait for a Keith and Smith retirement in a few weeks.

I sure hate sweeps. Very little to enjoy, constant frustration, leads evaporating, and you know its over before it’s actually over.

Really is too bad. With better management this team could have went to the final. I do think betting on Smith and Keith, among other things, really hurt us. But we won’t hear about that.

Was great to see a couple series win though, funnest I’ve had as an Oilers fan since 2006.

Gonna be fun cheering against Colorado and Nate "knees out" MacKknnon in the finals. We helped out a bit wrecking their 2nd line with Kadri done. Go Rangers (or Patty Maroon if needed)

Gonna be fun cheering against Colorado and Nate "knees out" MacKknnon in the finals. We helped out a bit wrecking their 2nd line with Kadri done. Go Rangers (or Patty Maroon if needed)

Maybe it's because I'm now here in Colorado, and having to deal with fans who seem to be less-informed than the few Stars fans I met in Texas, but the Avs quickly moved into Canucks territory for me. I wish them nothing but the worst.

@Avry
Darnell Nurse just let it be know he played through a torn hip flexor
#NHLPlayoffs #Oilers

That's a horrible injury for a Dman to be skating on with all the pivoting and push offs.

... can I also say how cool is it to quote Avry as media?

Avry quoted me in the hockey news from the Moss Pit during round one. Pretty funny. He chose the words I used nicely.

Series lost falls om Nurse and Smith.

Think nurse will look much better next year. Just said he tore his hip flexor. Smith will be worse for sure.

This might have been Smith's last season doing anything resembling a starter.

We. Need. A. Goalie.

We do so fing badly. but I'm still scared that it will be all up to Smith deciding to come back again or retire.

Here on out, expectation should be a SC and nothing less. Been too long. One good playoff run doesn’t erase or cover up for the damage ownership and management have done (or not done) the past decade plus. They are beyond lucky to have McDrai. Get Darnell some help, get a legit goalie and you’re cooking with butter. Sucks to get swept but congrats to team.

Nurse playing with a torn hip flexor. Mad respect for the guy. He takes way too much unwarranted abuse, some of it I question if it's hockey related.

- Leon was unreal. He could barely walk in that game. Doing what he did on 1 game is something else. The guy is a warrior.
- Hyman one hell of a playoffs and a fantastic signing. Can they clone a few more? I wish he could teach his tenacity too a few guys.
- McD for much of the playoffs all world. He took a step in my opinion on what it takes to win. Not just about putting up points.
- McLeod looks like a damn good one. Just scratching the surface. If he could ramp up the intensity a bit more on a game by game basis which may come with experience, look out.
- Yamo showed he can do it at his size. I was worried there last season and much of this season he was too small but he showed me something.
- Kane was a hell of a signing. He brings a ton of what the Oilers need. Would like him back but the price point and term might be too much.
- Nuge. When I see a brand new guy like Hyman play with such passion and intensity for my team, tonights game a prime example, I want that same from Nuge who's been here for 11 yrs. Did he have a bad game tonight in a must win? No. He scored a goal because an Avs player that doesn't make mistakes, made a mistake. So I appreciate him being there and finishing. But was he going balls out, flying around doing everything he could, playing the game like it was his last like Hyman or Leon was? No. As someone in here said a series ago, Nuge is Nuge. He is what he is. Have to accept that.
-JP. Lots of physical tools. Proved he can play in the NHL for sure. The question is what role and where in a line up? There could be something truly great there but he needs to ramp up the intensity and definitely work on his finish. But could also be a bottom 6 guy that always tantalizes but leaves you wanting more. I would like him back but have no clue what he's worth.
- Foegele I have no idea but he is. I thought he was good tonight. Shows you flashes. Could easily be better next year with a year under his belt in Edmonton.
- Kassian probably his best game of the playoffs. Stupid penalty to start. Too little too late. Need to get rid of him at all costs.
- Ryan gold soldier, easy 12/13 guy with a contract to do it.
- Holloway, I can't wait for next year. He's on my team for sure.
- Kulak is a keeper. Very good trade.I would like to see him back somehow but at the same time, need to get a spot for Broberg.
- Bouchard showed some flashes but also showed he as some more growing to do. I hope the playoffs showed him the intensity he needs to play with all the time to succed because there is a lot of player there.
- Ceci is damn good and more than replaced Larsson.
- Barrie I think will be traded. He was good for the Oilers but need to open up a spot for a more defensive dman.
- Keith thank you for your time. I personally think you helped Bouchard a bit as I thought his game took off in the regular season when you got put together. You have cups, medals, awards, championships and money. Do don't make hardly any next year. Go be a dad for your son.
- Russell thank you for your time. You played your bag off for the Oilers and gave it everything you had for this team. All the best to you in the future.

-Koskinen you took a lot of abuse. Some of it unwarranted in my opinion. You can play in the NHL still but I heard you are playing in Europe again for some Swiss team. I am sure it will be awesome.

Smith. Very raw right now. I don't want to go off too much on a guy like I did Nuge the other night. A lot of great saves at times but a lot of costly, costly mistakes at key times. You are old, go claim some injury, go on LTIR to collect that last year. Be a dad to your young kids.

Great run. Proud of my team. I would have liked to see the Oilers play them when healthy. I would have liked to see the Oilers play them where the refs weren't so involved.

Also…

Mike Smith man. I get that playing the puck is part of the Mike Smith game. But you are 40 years old. You have to know what the state of the game is, hell the series…can’t take risks all of the time.

Up 4-2 with 10 minutes left in the 3rd, I think everybody just wants the goalie of all people to play conservatively. He gave up a timely goal in every series.
