It goes without saying that the mustiness of this game is infinitely high, for THEM. The Oil got those bastids waiting in the trap they carefully set for them and will start the comeback tonight, just like they did in 1998. Am I being at least a bit sarcastic? Maybe, but what does it matter? The team can just let it all hang loose now and play without any pressure whatsoever just like I can now watch them without tension. Just go for it!

It's way off the scale how much we need to win this. Even if it doesn't start an epic comeback in the series, it would do the team a lot of good to avoid being swept.
We haven't had much luck in front of the net this series, Francouz seems to find rebounds within his pads or close enough to pounce on and just not giving us much even if he's not exactly playing well. A bit of luck would be nice and perhaps might just help us get a win.
I'd go with Drai and JP on the top line with McDavid and then let the rest of the lines build themselves. Drai isn't 100% far from it and has struggled the last few games, maybe back with McDavid will help. Not sure who to draw in for Kane, but whoever should know they have a chance to keep a place in the roster if we win and Kane returns.
Take me home, country road
to the place where I belong
to Alberta, to see the Oilers
take me home, country road

Nothing to lose night in Edmonton. Stauffer tweeted out that Holloway merits consideration if Yams still out. Or do we get ultimate hype man Shore? Or Neo?

Being up 3-0, maybe a let down over Kadri being out and knowing they are going home for potential clinching game, I could see the Av's taking their foot off the gas just a touch. Human nature.
Factor in Smith lost them the game and probably the series on that stinker, I could see him coming out with his best game. Maybe.
The big factor being McD not wanting to be swept on home ice and him deciding to win the game by himself.
Leon looks too hurt now. Whatever treatments he was getting look to be wearing off and MacKinnon slew footing him sure didn't help him. Yamo out with a "clean" head shot by Landeskog. Kane out for a game. Maybe Hyman has a big game in him but realistically it will have to be McD winning it for them. I don't see anyone else being able to step up and have a big game.

Since I'm bored here's a quick history of the Oilers and sweeps:
Historically this is only the fifth time (out of 55 playoff series) in their history the Oilers have been down 3-0 in a playoff series*:
1983: SCF against Islanders
1992: Campbell final against Blackhawks
1999: First round against Stars
2021: First round against Jets
They were swept in all four of those series, so they've never managed to stave off elimination when on the brink of being swept.
Time to change the narrative tonight and make this series resemble 1998.
* They were also down 2-0 in a best of 5 against the Flyers in 1980 and got swept in that one as well.
On the flip side the Oilers have swept teams in best of 7s seven times*:
1983: Campbell finals against Blackhawks
1984: Campbell finals against North Stars
1985: Smythe finals against Jets
1987: Smythe finals against Jets
1988: Smythe finals against Flames
1988: SCF against Bruins (although there was a tie game here, this is officially considered a sweep)
1990: Smythe finals against Kings
Twice the Oilers had a 3-0 lead and failed to get out the broom. In the 1983 Smythe final, they were up 3-0 vs the Flames and lost game 4. They would quickly make amends with a tidy 9-1 win in game 5. And of course in 2006, they went up 3-0 versus the Mighty Ducks in the Western conference final, dropped game 4 at home, but won a squeaker to take game 5.
* They also have 5 sweeps in first round best of 5s: 1981 vs Habs, 1983 and 1984 vs Jets, 1985 vs Kings, and 1986 vs Canucks.

You know that Nurse hasn't been on the ice for every goal against, right? We can all talk about how poorly he has played, but let's face it: when you let in as many goals as the Oil have over this playoff run, it is hardly due to the play of one person no matter how awful he's been. The team just can't keep their own end of the ice secure, at all. They have been winning mainly on the back of their own offensive prowess, and when they run into a team that can stop that prowess, they are dead. For tonight, they should just hit everything on two legs and play firewagon hockey, because their defensive game has been crap. Abandon it and throw the proverbial caution to the wind.

Yeap, his speed and athleticism has allowed him to catch up in situations. Not anymore with the injury.
If there's one positive that comes out of this, I hope it's Nurse realizing even being athletically gifted to an elite level, he still needs to slow his game down and make better smarter decisions.

I recently had a brain aneurysm and almost died. Talking to a nurse three days after my emergency surgery I was told by the nurse that 50% of the people with that aneurysm don't make it to the hospital. I know that I was spared death to witness greatness. We can win four straight. If we didn't have McDavid, I would say this series was over. We're about to witness the greatest comeback of all time. Oilers in 7. In McDavid we trust.

Yikes, DeZoE...glad you pulled through, now it's up to the Oilers to reward you! Starts with one, LFG!!!
That McDavid goal gif kills me every time when Saros raises his catching hand when McDavid pops it in...totally wrong side of the net, I realize it's a balance thing where he's thrusting his right leg back and it's causing his arm to go up, but it cracks me up.

This team MUST play error free hockey to win...
...if not error free, then that error CAN NOT be an own goal.
And even then... for the first time MUST have the better goalie.
...no problem. OIL go up early and this time actually hold the lead for the WIN.
...this time, it's for real (isn't it?).

It will come down to more guys other than McD have to want it. Every guy to a man has to bring their A effort. There will be times when you have to do things out of their comfort zone. That means finishing your checks. That means going to the net knowing you will take abuse but that is where the goals are scored. That means getting in people's faces at times. That means winning your puck battles. That means burying your scoring chances. That means picking up your assignments. That means doing the right play vs the risky play. Whether that is chipping the puck out vs trying to make that through 2 guys stretch pass. Dumping the puck in so your linemates can change safely vs trying to beat a guy 1 on 1, 2, 3. That means taking the open shot vs trying to force the puck through for that pretty goal. That means concentrating and making the saves you are supposed to make 100% of the time.
Going to take a full team effort.

Holy smokes. Oilers talk aside (and I agree with everything you said) boy am I glad to read what you're saying. I think the lesson is, since we get to enjoy a western conference final game let's enjoy a western conference final game as much as we can.

The Oilers should have gave Holloway #34, not 36. The Oilers could use an unsung hero like the 2006 Oilers got from Pisani. Maybe some vibes would rub off on him.

Looked up all the Oilers what wore 36 and it seems like it is just one of their go to entry level numbers. Here are all the guys who wore it that switched numbers immediately afterward.
Drake Caggiula
Shawn Horcoff
Todd Marchant
Marc Pouliot
Jarret Stoll
Brad Werenka
Norm Maciver seems like the only one who may have worn it on purpose having worn 37 and 33 on teams he played on before the Oilers.
Maybe some Todd Marchant magic from him tonight? I'll take that.
Edit - Philip Larson looks like he wore it on purpose too. If this is Dylan's actual number (since he can't have #4) then he can really make it his own.

I think starting Smith in this game will burn Woodcroft. Game 1 was a golden opportunity to see where Koskinens’ game was at. And he was dialed in.
I hope Koskinen is limber tonight and I hope we find out about Smith early in the game. And I hope Woody is smart enough.
