Well that fell apart fast. Thought we played pretty well in the 1st. And then after that Colorado outburst, seems like we just packed up and called it a day.

Our D doesn’t match up at all.

Need a goalie to steal one for us.

Any goalie will do.

I’d put Holloway in next game.

That was worrying for me. Not the scoreline, you have to expect defeats along the way, but the way they shut down after the 3 goals and didn't seem to have any fight in them to look like scoring to begin another comeback.

I hope on home ice that the fans at home can provide some energy for them to spark them back into life or this could end up being over before it's begun.

I’d put Holloway in next game.

At this point I wouldn't complain about lineup tweaks. Need some energy back in Edmonton. Pretty weak offensive effort in generating much....I guess a being on the kill a lot will affect that. I dont think Nurse is better than the #7 option right now either. You could roll with Koski next game too. The options should all be on the table.

Not looking good, gotta hold serve in Edmonton or they're titters.

That second one I thought for sure Smith should have had. But I’m not pinning this loss on him. Better team simply just won. Also, I’m not saying it’s the reason for the loss but that was some poor officiating. Nurse continues to be a liability. Sure. He’s hurt. Whatever. He’s still mashed potatoes up top.

Gotta do something to turn the tide. If Yam is out and the only move is putting Shore in, we’re cooked.

Can’t believe we have a long term contract for nurse to get through. Guy is really inconsistent. Way to inconsistent for a player his age and his supposed value.

Injury or not.. that's looking ugly. He's not a Parayko type shutdown D, and he doesn't QB the PP.. and doesn't have a dangerous shot.. abilities you would normally see in a $8M plus D-man..

Maybe he gets better.. or the cap goes up substantially.. anyway.. he's not playing well right now.. and its not all due to a LBI.

Discussion for another thread, but how much is the guy going to improve given his age today.

"Not taking care of a fellow homeboy" would've triggered McDavid however. I think the contract & terms were what this really came down to....

I think a couple of you donkeys need to settle the frick down on your obvious racism regarding Nurse. Where is this blame game from you clowns with Keith? Bouchard?
I freaking dare you to do your job with the injury Nurse has.
So let’s put out #6 instead. Who are you going to blame then if he gets burned?

Yes, Nurse hasn’t been good. Keith has been worse.

Nurse, who is hurt, is our best d man. Don’t blame him. Blame the idiot GM

As an addendum, where was any skater tonight, including 97 & 29? That’s a couple game where they were ghosts.
Maybe this team won their cup by beating Calgary.

This was a team loss. ALL of them.

Perhaps because Colorado is expertly clogging the middle? Just maybe?

Sometimes it’s not always how bad our superstars are playing. Sometimes it how good the other team reacts.

Just saying..

Where the hell do race come into it???? Nurse making league min right now is too much. Let alone 9 mill. Injury? Sure....what was his excuse all year. This guy has been consistent at one thing this year and that's being the worst D on the ice, every night.

Back that statement up with numbers, not blind hatred.
Who is a better D than he is on the roster?
I await your retort.

And yes, bravo to Darnell for battling it out, but is it the right decision the way he is being used right now? And is Darnell making proper decisions as well? Sorry if this is too racist for you Karen, but it’s the truth.

Nurse demonstrates the puck IQ of a rookie on a regular basis.. and he's been in the NHL for 7 seasons. He's effectively a 2nd pair with a contract that's the 7th highest in the NHL for a defenseman. He should expect more from himself.

I was a fan of his since I first saw him play with the Soo Greyhounds.. he was outstanding at both ends of the ice.. I was ecstatic he was an Oiler... fully expected him to be great, and believed he would be.. its been 9 years since draft day and it looks like he's stalled out where he is, which isn't good enough for this team to win.

Still not seeing the numbers to back that up. Nurse is one heck of a hockey player. Comparing him to a rookie is a freaking joke.
Y’all ever watch that hockey or what?

He. Is. Injured.

Rip on the golden boy Nuge for tossing him a grenade.Maybe about rip into that dude for not having a pulse perhaps? How bout light into Keith, who is actually the worst D on the team. Or maybe the GM who made this happen?

Nurse isn’t the damn problem. Perhaps the coach should shelter him, given his injury.

Some of the comments on Nurse here are effing embarrassing. Give your heads a shake.

By the way. Why are you dodging the racism allegations? That’s pretty strong accusation. If you are gonna toss that word around, you should damn well be prepared to back it up, no?

Nurse, who is hurt, is our best d man. Don’t blame him. Blame the idiot GM

WTH are you talking about? Where is the racism?

And yes, bravo to Darnell for battling it out, but is it the right decision the way he is being used right now? And is Darnell making proper decisions as well? Sorry if this is too racist for you Karen, but it’s the truth.

Edit: And no, he is not our best D man.

Who’s better? He is the best D on the team by a mile.
Is he the best at this moment, no. In general, yes.

Blame management on that.

By a mile? I disagree. Easily our most athletic. Certainly our most clueless.

By the way. Why are you dodging the racism allegations? That’s pretty strong accusation. If you are gonna toss that word around, you should damn well be prepared to back it up, no?

Dying to hear your angle on that now.

Exactly..

Did I mention you with it? It’s either racism or some don’t know hockey.

In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

So what I’m reading here is, if we don’t agree with you regarding Nurse and his value, the only obvious reason is we are racist. I mean, who could be so dumb, right?

I’m not going to lie, I have some concerns about this series. I guess we have to trust Woody to make adjustments and win the line matchups.

Matching lines might help.. except for that 3 minute sin the 3rd they played even.. a lot better than game 1.

Plus they'll be back at 645m.. instead of 1,610m in Denver.

That game sucked but important to remember in the playoffs - you can't get too high over the wins, or too low on the losses. This is a marathon not a sprint.

There's a couple of things that I think are good for the Oilers.

1) We got our heads absolutely caved in in that game. The Avs completely dominated just about every aspect of it. Blowouts in the playoffs often bring a big reaction. The Avs completely pasted the Oilers in 1998, and were never the same after they did that. Everyone probably remembers Game 6 of the Finals in 2006 too...we were absolutely dominant, but it didn't matter once the next game started.

2) Their fans chanted "We want the Cup." That's something I always feel is almost always too early, but to do it when you still have two more games against this opponent? Well, looking too far forward tends to catch up to teams. I hope they're feeling like they're almost there tonight. It'll make them susceptible to taking us too lightly.

We're also playing at home in front of the rabid Edmonton crowds and maybe, just maybe, this was enough to get our coach to finally make some lineup changes. Archibald barely played after that third goal against - maybe Woodcroft has finally seen enough and we can see Holloway make his start. I'd also like to see the 7D, because adding Broberg brings a little more speed, and can take some minutes from Keith and Nurse...both of whom are struggling so far in this one.

As much as he's not my favourite starter ever, I still think if I'm coach I go back to Smith at this point. He didn't lose that game and I don't have a big issue with any of the goals against tonight. He made a lot more big saves tonight than on Tuesday.

Saturday is a huge, huge game. But if we win, then we still have a pretty decent chance.

Very disappointing game. It was another game where I thought the Oilers flat out didn't play well at all. I get that the Avs are an excellent team, probably the best in the NHL so how they play has an impact on how well the Oilers play but the Oilers are just flat out not bringing it, they aren't playing their structure at all and they are making stupid mistakes.

McD: This may have been his poorest game in a very long time. I can't remember him doing anything of note. You need depth but you can't win if your best players are non factors.

Leon: He's hurt I know but similar to above, I can't remember him doing anything of note.

Nuge: 7 more years of Nuge huh. I thought he was awful. I know he's a fan favorite, which I think played a big factor in him being resigned and probably got him more money but once again, not much happening. Good on the PK but other than that, not a single shot on goal. I am sure he did lots of subtle stuff - yipee- but when does he elevate? Brutal passes, blown coverages. Where the hell is the intensity! What will it take. I am going longer on Nuge because he's been here for 11 yrs, deemed a leader and one of the guys that sets the standard for team play and my concern is his personal standard isn't good enough and its rubbing off on other guys.

Hyman: I thought he wasn't totally on but one of the few trying a bit. The Oilers could use several more of him. I wish his work ethic rubbed off on Nuge.

Kane: He was meh. He wasn't as impactful as other games but at least he was trying to hit someone towards the end to show he had a pulse. I did like the physical play at the end especially on Makar.

Foegele: Had some jump at times so not too bad.

Ryan: He wasn't good.

Yamo: Didn't play much. I assume he left because of the head shot he got from Landeskog.

Arch & Kassian - 4th liners. Personally I think against the Avs, 1 of them is enough. 4 hits between them. Not that hitting is the end all, be all, but if those 2 aren't hitting everything that moves, then what the hell are you doing out there.

JP: Another game where....... I don't know what to say. I am sure the advanced stats says he was amazing, best player on the team. He was maybe 10ft from the goal, all by himself, net to shoot at, misses the net all together. I saw him carrying in the puck and looks like he can't stick handle at times. I don't know. I don't want JP out of the lineup, I just really wish the team was getting more from him. They need it.

McLeod: I thought he showed some OK things. I wish he was more aggressive.

Nurse - Ceci- I thought Ceci was decent, Nurse man. I know he's hurt and it is hampering him big time but some of the mistakes he makes are just mind boggling. They need to adjust his minutes.

Keith - Bouchard - Another game where that pair struggled. Keith with some bad giveaways. Bouchard a lot of mistakes.

Kulak - Barrie - Made some mistakes too. I know Kulak took a penalty, I don't mind it. Yamo got drilled in the head, I saw him go after Landeskog them hit MacKinnon

Smith: I thought he needed to have the second 1. Other than that, didn't have a chance on any of the others.

Need some changes. I would dress another dman and got 11-7. Given the speed of the Avs, I would go Broberg. Play him 10 mins and make sure he takes minutes from Nurse and Keith. I'd also take out both Arch and Kassian. I have a hard time putting in Holloway just because you are asking a kid who only has half a season of AHL to play his first ever NHL game in the playoffs.

why do all of our D-men do the same thing on 2 on 1's. They back in and crowd the goalie. They don't eliminate the pass (or the passing lane by sprawling out, which seemed to be what they did in round 1 and 2), or force the shooter early. So far the Ave's have scored on these vs Keith Bouchard and Nurse with each doing the exact same thing.

Looks like a Colorado overtime goal gets called back and then the Oilers finish it off.

That sounds like fun.

Imagine turning the TV off pissed, going to bed and then waking up to find out your team won. I’d definitely think the simulation I’m living in glitched.

I remember that happened in 2006 in the first round against Detroit in game 3. Remember the Detroit goal that went under the net. The staff at Rexall smartly kept the visiting team exit locked so the Wings couldn't quickly get off the ice to make sure the NHL looked at it. It was of course called back and Jarret Stoll would win it for Edmonton in the second OT.

I knew a few people who had shut it off after the Wings alleged goal and woke up the next morning finding out the Oilers had won.
