Thought I'd might as well start this thread for content until the 1st game..

Interesting to see who come up from Bako to join the Black Aces..

For sure; Broberg, Nemo, Holloway, Perlini.. then Malone? Benson?

I really think Holloway might get a game once they see him practice.. NHL skating and shot, defensively sound.. I think he even PK's .. I could easily see him in over Foegle or Shore..

Hahaha... Leafs lose again.

Leon's looking pretty beat up. He looked like a ghost in the post-game presser... and what the hell happened to one of his front teeth?

Hope the guy gets some solid rest before the next series starts. Just sleep Leon. Sleep well.

This isn't me trying to stir the pot but if you want Holloway to get in, someone has to come out.

None of Kane, McD, Yamo, Leon, Hyman, Nuge, McLeod are coming out.

I just do not think Ryan comes out. He's their only right handed center and he's excellent on faceoffs. Faceoffs matter on special teams and in the playoffs.

I do not think Archibald comes out. He's playing very well. He hustles, kills penalties, skates hard and fast, he's unlucky not to have a goal or 2 so he's generating scoring chances. I am sure the spreadsheets say his possesion numbers aren't as good as say JP. But in the playoffs, physical play matters and intensity matters and he's bringing it and standing out.

I'd be surprised if Kassian came out. I thought in a 4th line role, he's been pretty good. Playing physical, running around. Generating chances. He's getting limited minutes but when he comes out, generally he's doing his job.

They already scatched Foegle.

So that leaves JP. I like him, I think there is a lot of potential there. I know the stats boys love him but if a person is being honest in my opinion, while he does good things which I think a lot of it is because he's just so huge, his intensity level is not there. If this was a regular season game, sure. But for playoffs where everything is twice as intense and fast, he's not bringing it. I would bet money that if he ramped up his intensity level like say Bouchard has - who's had a similar knock - Jp would be playing more.

So unless a player gets hurt or can't go, someone has to come out for Holloway so it would come down to probably Kassian or JP and it will be who's bringing it more and right now, it's not JP.

If they went back to 6 and 12 then they'd have to add a forward from last night's line up.... I'm thinking that could be Holloway vs. Foegle or Shore :)

The question I would have is why would you go to 12-6?

I think the Oilers defense is better when you limit guys mins. If you can have Russell in the line up to play some PK reducing the mins of Nurse and Keith and spelling them off a bit, they only helps them.

11-7 allows you to get creative with McD. I guess if Leon is struggling health wise, then having an extra guy will help.

G7 between the Flames and Stars is going to be mega tight-checking and careful. Neither team will want to take a penalty and neither will want to be out of position.

Whoever blinks first, will lose. I'm guessing 3-1 Stars, with an EN to seal it.

The first Battle of Alberta in over 30 years would be kinda cool. Then again, screw the Flames, so there's that.

My heart canā€™t handle this living in Calgary.

Honestly, what do you feel the Oilers chances are?

Man, it would be devastating to lose this series.

Not sure I'm happy with Cuthbert and Simpson, I mean they've already sent one Canadian team home this play-off's now a second, if we reach the conference finals can we ask for them not to be commentating??

So looking forward to this series, but I do fear that whoever progresses will be so banged up physically and mentally after it will be at a disadvantage in the next round.

I'd take Cuthbert over Singh any day. Nothing against the guy because technically, he calls the game just fine but with his monotone voice, I bet Singh would be a great golf announcer.

Singh has put me to sleep a bunch of times during the first round. I was sound asleep on the couch when Barrie scored the GWG in game 6 and woke up with two minutes left to see we were winning.

Will never call a spade a spade anymore. Like he was concerned about offending the huge amounts of LA Kings fans watching the games on Canadian channels.

Just eyerolly super generic color commentating.

I'm starting to have more of an issue with Louie lately. He sounds like he's practicing to get into politics or something.

How so?

Will never call a spade a spade anymore. Like he was concerned about offending the huge amounts of LA Kings fans watching the games on Canadian channels.

Just eyerolly super generic color commentating.

And!! I only caught one can-opener drop.

What happened Louie? You used to be cool!

Maybe told to cool his jets bc his boy is going to be playing for a western Canadian team next season.

I wonder if he handles local market games (SN weekdays) different than national games (CBC saturday, playoffs). He knows he can be more himself with just the local Oilers fans. But stow the homerisms for bigger audience.

He also has more chemistry/comfort with Jack Michaels and maybe gets more into his play calls and emotion too.

[8:30 PM is a pretty brutal start time! Wonder what the NHL is thinking with this. Do they not want any Eastern viewers?

Well, flying in from BC to go to game 3 with my FiancĆ©. First playoff game of my life, couldnā€™t pass up a Battle of Alberta on a long weekend.

Not cheap, they better win!!

On an unrelated note, anybody want to buy a lightly used PS4?

Well. Calgary has to be considered the favorite, they've been favorites in the BOA before actually, having had better seasons. Goaltending is gonna be key of course. All hands on deck.

If the rules of hockey are called, it evens things up. If it's a no calls interference/hooking cheap shot free for all, Oilers still have I'd say a 40% chance.

Focus for the Oilers should be, as always, getting things done early in hockey games and carrying that momentum throughout, the Oilers are not a team to sit on a lead without foot on gas. Calgary will probably win the series if they make the Oilers play from behind. I'm not sure who's banged up on the Flames, but I know who is on the Oilers.

This is something I wanted for the possibilities, but didn't want for the stress. I know it's never going to happen, but I'm really hoping for 4 consecutive blowout victories for the Oilers to start the series.

In Game 7 of the Flames series, it looks like they matched the Backlund line against Pavelski so probably reasonable to expect they'll try to match that line against McDavid (at least to start).

A lot really depends on Draisaitl's health as he'll need to go against the Lindholm line, or if Woodcroft feels the need to shelter him with McDavid, then RNH is going to have to go up against that line. Which might be okay, but in that scenario the Oilers 3rd line is probably getting killed by the Dube/Jarnkrok/Toffoli line.

Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

The Oilers are going to need everyone who was playing well in the series to continue. The Flames defense is a bit bigger than the Kings so they need guys like Yamo to keep doing what he's been doing. A HUGE plus would be if JP could elevate his game. If he could somehow ramp up his intensity a bit, guy of his size could really be a force. They can't afford to have guys on the perimeter, they need everyone all in.

I see Kassian being a huge pest to Tkachuk. In a playoff BOA, I am glad as hell to have a guy like Kassian.

Dallas lived in the heads of the Calgary 1st line for 4-5 games of that last series. All Edmonton has to do is confirm those seeds of doubt that are already in the pea brains of the Calgary Flames. I live in neither city, but clearly Calgary's complex carries over to the hockey club. No one really gave the Flames much attention, even this year. It's weighing on them. Jockey looked on the verge of a breakdown after game 6. I'm actually sending prayers out to whoever/whatever might answer....open this series with 4 lopsided wins.

While I'd like to see a little more production from him, I thought McLeod acquitted himself well in Round 1. The depth wasn't bleeding goals against versus LA...they just weren't scoring much themselves. Thought that the Puljujarvi and Kassian pairing was underused, but seemed never to play in their own zone when they were on the ice.

I am a bit worried about how the goalies match up, and some of our injury concerns are big ones - hopefully a couple days is all Leon's ankle/leg needs...

Markstrom was below .900 3 out of 4 of the games he started against the Oilers this season. Markstrom is a good goalie. If he was putting up the numbers he did in the series against the Avs, Wild or Blues, I'd be more worried. Dallas had a negative goal diff with guys like Benn and Seguin as some of their key offensive guys and the 2 of them have been washed up for a few years now.

It will be a tough series but I don't think the goaltending will be as lop sides as some think.
