They have to break this playoff streak. All the ghosts start appearing if they go down again.

If they're not in town already, their trips are booked.
Still, the Oilers are capable of beating the Kings. I swear I've seen it this year.

Most crucial game of the McDavid era. They all are in these playoffs.
Good start, get up early and they're fine. I don't want to consider otherwise.

A loss tonight will tie the club record for consecutive playoff losses at 8. That was the stretch from 1998-2000 which were all against Dallas. They lost the last two games in 1998, got swept in 1999, and lost the first two in 2000.

The 1999 playoffs made me sad. Before this the Oilers had that dented up door where they put a sticker for every playoff win. Some years had 15 or 16 stickers. Some had a couple. But what do you do when there are no wins? Did the playoffs even exist? I think '99 killed that tradition.

Listening to Gregor yesterday the factoid comes out that Smith has a 10 game losing streak in the playoffs. Going back to a flames collapse I guess.
The only way to change this particular narrative and the one that you mentioned is to change the fact, bring it to an end, and make it history instead of ongoing. I think this team can take off on a run with one frigging win that flips the script. It no longer dwells in the mind.

Correction--I just looked it up and the Oilers actually lost the last THREE games in 1998 to Dallas (I knew they lost in 5 and thought they had won game 3, but looking it up, they actually won game 2). So the record is actually 9 consecutive games lost.
So no danger of matching the streak tonight, but let's just win anyway.

Looks like Woody has parked the 11-7 idea for now.. plus considers Archie > Shore, and trying to balance out the 3rd and 4th lines by swapping Foogelle and Archie.. but I'm sure this arrangement is very fluid.
Although I think Holloway would be an instant upgrade over either Foogle or Archie.
Some Holloway highlights from last night.

no shootouts in the playoffs so you don't need a specialist like Shore in the lineup
You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Game 1 is the least impactful game of the series. Of course a team would want to win it, but there are 6 more chances to recover that win. The just might want to consider, you know, winning this one tonight. It would be very helpful.

so... Archibald is going to make a bit hit and be out of position on the Kings 2nd goal?
On a more positive note, man I hope Draisaitl takes over this game.

Franchise play off loss record,
Keep themselves in the series
Kill Smith's play off loss sequence
and make waking up for 3am a happier event it was on Tuesday morning. I want to taste something sweeter than I did for breakfast tomorrow.
Take me home, country road
to the place where I belong
to Alberta, to see the Oilers
take me home, country road

I have no issues with Archibald being in. I've been blown away with the turn around of the Oilers since Woody took over as coach. With Woody as coach and all the decisions he's made both in style of play and who plays, the Oilers have been one of the best teams in the NHL for several months. So it sure looks like he knows what he is doing.
There is no cap requirements in the playoffs so it isn't a GM forcing an expensive guy to play. Arch is a UFA at the end of this season so there is zero pressure to play a guy the GM recently signed to make him look good. With the travel restrictions changed for him, it looks like Woody feels Arch can bring something to the line up and help his team win so I am all for it. I don't care who plays, how much they play or in what position. Just win.

Nope pants will literally be off. I'm slammed with work. Rather have a couple extra hours sleep if they win that's great but I'd be more optimistic with Skinner. Even Koskinen has won a KHL championship. But we're playing the guy that has lost 10 straight playoff games and desperately needs a brain transplant.

I mean a team can come back from 0-2 down going on the road... but I can think of exactly two scenarios that are much much better than that. I do remember the Canucks beating the Wings twice in Detroit before losing the series 4-2. I think that was the series Cloutier let in a shot from center ice, but memory is funny.
