It'd be nice to see the bottom lines not mess things up with errant passes when skating into an odd man rush situation.....something to work on in practice.

Hey hey home ice clinched for the 1st round nonetheless....

I generally don't mind Louie Debrusk as a colour guy, but what was he smoking when he kept going on about how the third period was "the MOST important for the Oilers' entire season".

Dude they've already clinched a playoff spot, and even if they blow the lead, they would have two more opportunities to clinch home ice.

Unless he thinks blowing a 2-1 lead in back to back games would have killed their confidence? The playoffs are still a week away--I think they could have gotten over it.

Nice! Didn't watch this one, but good result to wake up to. 2nd place clinched, 4 McPoints. Can he do it 2 more times against the Sharks and Canucks to get to 130?

Mike Smith save % last 8 games: .969, .939, 1.000, 1.000, .944, .919, .971 icon_eek

That's .963! I know it's not sustainable, but even if it can stay up at around his current total for the year (.915) which is about middle of the pack for starters, that could be enough to take us to the 2nd round and beyond.

I agree with you that if the Oilers can just get average goaltending, I think the rest of their team is good enough that they can win a series and maybe do some damage after. I say this because they won a lot of games for most of the season with at best mediocre goaltending. So they as a team should be used to winning when their goalie doesn't stand on his head.

I don't know if it was Holland or his pro scouts but who ever recommended Kulak, they did a hell of a job. He's been a really, really good pick up.

Awesome game, love watching McDavid vs Crosby. Smith absolutely stonewalled Crosby a few times.

McDavid now has 122 points.

Kind of fitting that this was the game where he passes Crosby’s career high of 120 points.

This also gives him a 7 point lead in the Art Ross race over Huberdeau. 2 games to go for Florida and the Oilers. It’s possible neither McDavid nor Huberdeau play all their remaining games.

If McDavid wins his 3rd Art Ross this year, that will also pass Crosby’s two.

Based on what Gretzky said today on Stauffers show or what Strudwick's been saying, unless McD or Leon are nursing an injury, in my opinion, no way they don't play both games. I could see the coach scaling back their minutes some. They each played just over 19 mins last night. I'd scale that back a few mins. Make take Leon off the PK so he's not taking a shot off a foot. But I'd think they'd both want to keep their mojo going especially McD who's flying.

Theres just not a lot to play for anymore. Our position in the West is set. We can’t gain or lose anymore seeding there. Hypothetically we could still lose seeding against Washington or Pittsburgh should we meet them in the cup finals.

Matthews has more or less secured his Richard over Leon. The Art Ross looks pretty safe for McDavid.

Rumors of game 1 on Monday, which is a very short break. I’d think hard about sitting them. We already saw close calls with Leon and Nurse in recent weeks.

I think you have a conversation with them but if they are good to go, and more importantly WANT to play so they keep going and their game is feeling good, I don't think any coach is going to insist their superstar players sit out just because.
