I am really, really happy to have Tippett gone and no more of the Oilers calling off the dogs whenever we get a couple goal lead. The killer instinct is great to see.

I'm glad to see Dallad Eakins coaching a Western opponent.

Congrats to Leon for getting #50. Huge play by Yamamoto to keep that play alive. Wonder if Yams had a nagging injury earlier in the season. He's been a completely different player the last month or so.

Fingers crossed that Leon isn't hurt bad & that Koskinen gets back soon. Yeah, Smith only let in one, but he got real lucky on several shots that he was completely out of position on.

If Yamamoto was hurt and it killed his production it might have saved this team millions of dollars of cap space.

I hate looking past the current season, but Yamamoto and Puljujarvi are contract concerns. Any discounts will be appreciated. Love to have a few more years of value contracts.

29 and 97 deserve a Stanley Cup with the Oilers. A cheers to the playoffs and a Cup run.

Side note. 17:40 (Hyman) was the top minute munching Oiler forward tonight. 11 seconds more than Draisaitl. 2:15 more than McDavid. No Oiler forward had less than 11:29 (Foegele).

Tippett never coached one game like this, regardless of the score.

Bonus. Bouchard lead everyone in TOI (21:28).

And Kulak seems to be the calming force needed to unlock Barrie. That pair played a great game. Then I remember the opponent was the Ducks and I come back to reality haha.

2 points from Must Week 2.0 so far with 6 more available through the remainder of Cali before a quick stop at home to play Colorado

Ya know, it's pretty cool to see a player score 50 goals on your team not once but twice. Every ceiling he bursted through, there was always a counter. "He playing with McDavid", "He shot over 20%", etc.

He's got a Hart trophy outscoring McDavid and now two 50 goal seasons. Nobody can take anything away from him anymore. He's just great and has exceeded all expectations every step of the way.

For all the b-ing and moaning that happens on this site, the Oilers have actually been really good for most of the year. They had a 15 game stretch of crap (all defencemen injured, covid, unscheduled break, 6 road games, unscheduled break) where they went 2-11-2, that means they've played the rest of the season at 38-14-3.

I understand that when the playoffs approach, no-holds-barred hockey will cripple them again, but they really aren't getting enough respect from anybody.

Anyone notice that Bison sits next to Kane on the bench? I wonder if he's sitting by JP in the room as well. I think he's rubbing off on the kid..
I can see a marked difference in how JP is playing now, using that massive bison skeleton to separate people from pucks.. the kid is discovering a whole new level..

Good times! icon_nod

Wonder if Connor will reach 50 too. If anyone can do it, it's him. Especially at the rate he's been scoring lately.

When was the last time a team had two 50 goal scorers in one season? Lemieux & Jagr with the Pens? Been a long time anyway.

He's got 12 games left.. needs 10.. easily doable.. a couple of douces.. maybe a hat trick.. would be amazing to get 50, kid deserves it for all the abuse he's taken in the league.

I'm about as jaded as anyone here, but I really don't dislike the majority of the makeup of the team.

There are warts to be sure, but I would put our forward group now up against any in the league. Obviously 97 and 29 alone puts them in the conversation, but even all the rest. 91 has pretty much been a perfect add to the top 6, not only for what he brings, but like Skookum says, how he seems to be rubbing off on JP and Yamamoto. Hyman has been WAY better than I ever expected - I thought it was all Toronto media hype, but the guy is a player. Definitely brings it more often than not, and seems to have a great infectious attitude.

Foegele and Ryan have been new men ever since Tippett left, especially Ryan. Brassard is solid if unspectacular. Kassian though overpaid, has the potential to be a gamechanger - when he's engaged, he's a definite plus. And McLeod? Wow - found money or what.

We don't have any world beaters, but Kulak seems to be the perfect partner for Barrie who is despite his shortcomings an elite offensive Dman. Ceci has blown away all expectations for him. Keith has been good (still the most stupid trade in Oilers history). Bouchard looked like a Norris contender in October and November. Then he fell off a cliff, but he seems to have had a good last couple of games. Pretty cool that all 6 D last night were right around 20 minutes.

But then you get to the net...we're not going anywhere with those 2. If we make it in we might win a round, but that netminding is not holding up for 16 post season wins.

I really believe our only shot for a deep run this year is to give Skinner a chance to catch lightning in a bottle.

We know what we will get from both Smith and Koskinen - both will give you a good game here and there, but both will wilt under the workload of the playoffs. Skinner though? Maybe he would as well, but maybe he won't. Of the 3, he's the one that inspires the most confidence. And the results support that

Skinner .913%, 2.62GAA
Koskinen: .902%, 3.10GAA
Smith: .897%, 3.36GAA

It's not like I'm suggesting putting in a worse option and hoping for the best - I am suggesting putting in a guy who has objectively done better than the other 2, and is young enough to sustain the energy required for a long playoff run.

I have to say the Kulak pick up so far has looked like a damn good one. Taking out the high of the fact he scored a goal and made a hell of an assist on Leon's 50th last night, the guy just has been rock solid every game so far. I am not a guy who is searching out all the advanced stats there are and doing my own but so far, all the stats I have seen posted about the guy, his advanced numbers seem to have been really good. He's doing it while playing a fair amount. It's not like his partner is propping him up because he's this defensively specialist. He's playing with Barrie who's a defensive optional at times dman. He's making Barrie look freaking good.

I get it's only been 6 games but man he looks good and a guy they should really look at resigning. AND, I always love seeing guys who you can tell want to be an Oiler. He's living his dream!. I am praying he finds a way to score a goal in Rogers so his dad can be there to see it. That would be cool.

I am really, really happy to have Tippett gone and no more of the Oilers calling off the dogs whenever we get a couple goal lead. The killer instinct is great to see.

How different does that game go if we start going into a shell with a 1 or 2 goal lead? Even 2-0 one bad goal against and we go into our panic mode. We had some lull periods in that game where things could have got ugly if the game got tight and we were on our heels already.

Such a nice buffer you can build if when you actually keep attacking when your team is playing well, regardless of the score.

You can really see it in the shot counts in some of these games, even where the Oilers don't score as much as they did last night. They keep pouring on the pressure, and that keeps teams on their back foot. McDavid and Draisaitl are so dangerous that you have to respect them if they are looking for more offence. When the team sat back, that wasn't always so.

It's refreshing to see. I think the Oilers fluked in to a good coaching tandem here, and I have to say, I'm pretty nervous about the team's unwillingness to extend them so far. Take that in to the summer and I just don't have faith that the team will make the right choice if they search for someone else. We'll likely just end up with another old coach with name recognition if they do that.

Fingers crossed they do the right thing with found money.

Can I get a hell yea?

Seems our best moves have fallen into our laps. Draisaitl slipping. McDavid lottery. Kane. Dad bod Woodcroft and the whispering Charlie Manson.

It’s when we try to do things we eff up. Seems like Skinner is the next obvious accident, but the resistance is there and it’s a organizational fail.
