Something tells me Tippett has had enough of rookies. He'd no doubt rather have Josh Archibald back than Holloway.
|
Definitely a pattern of the tip looking for the safe and familiar option almost all the time. Even if it means coaching like he's playing a video game and playing one guy a million minutes through 6 periods of hockey.
|
Saw someone on Twitter today mentioning about the Bear story how wild it was that because of one errant pass Tippett decided to go to four defence for the next HOUR of hockey. Just ridiculous.

Think he blames Bear for the series ending goal? When he finally had to give his d some rest for a D zone face-off and seemed to order Bear to get off the second we had possession, which ended up 10 seconds into the shift, which helped create the opening for the rush against? Bet he does blame Bear. Probably insisted he needed another experienced vet D that summer.

Many other reasons people can think of why we dumped a promising RHD we developed for years that was committed to the Oilers? For a 3rd line winger that Carolina was looking to dump for cap reasons that we could have got for a pick? Aside from the coach not wanting to ever play him again, which was clearly demonstrated multiple times through the year I mean. Guess terrible asset management is the other possibility.

Holloway coming around, albeit slowly.
"@Bob_Stauffer
Dylan Holloway (wrist) and Kris Russell (UBI) are on the ice early today at Clare Drake Arena.
Holloway has been skating for awhile. He is starting to shoot more.
Could see him in Bakersfield mid-to-late January or early February.

He played against or with, don't quote me here, Josh’s dad back in the day. The connection and obligations far outway what any rookie can bring to the team.

Dear Lord baby Jesus, lyin' there in your little ghost manger, just lookin' at your Baby Einstein developmental videos, learnin' 'bout shapes and colours. I would like to thank you for bringin' me and my mama together, and also that my kids no longer sound like retarded gang-bangers oh and that Dylan Holloway is finally healthy and some part of his mangly body doesn’t break like the prized glass leg lamp he’s been since being drafted as an Oiler.

Excited to see what the addition of Kane and Holloway will do for that left side. The prospect of Nuge at 3C and Hyman over to the right side is mouth watering.

If Dreger’s league sources are correct we will know tomorrow or Wednesday of the suspension/no suspension. And if no suspension, or short suspension, I suspect we’ll hear the news of him signing with Edmonton quickly after.

Yeah that'll work as well.. I put JP with Leon because I think he likes to handle the puck more when he plays with LD, and I think JP plays better, more engaged, the more he handles the puck.. he seems to dish off teh puck way more when he plays with McD, less effective.
Bottom line is the top 6 looks pretty good, plus RNH as your 3rd line C as a bonus, top 7 is great.
I'm OK with Perlini for Sceviour too ...

I'm not keen on RNH and Yamamoto together without Draisatl ... I'd probably prefer to swap Yamamoto and JP. My first preference, though, would be:
Hyman - McDavid - Puljujarvi
Kane - Draisatl - Yamamoto
Foegele - RNH - Holloway
Perlini - McLeod - Kassian
Scevior/Ryan as extras; Shore/Turris on taxi squad
Definitely can't blame lack of success on forward depth if you can run those 12 forwards out there ...

Holloway shoots left, that's why I'd put Hyman on RW, he shoots R, allows you to move Yamo down, I don't think Yamo's top 6 where he's at right now. You're right though, Yamo on the 3rd line isn't ideal, he's not built for it, although he's plays the PK so he should be defensively minded. If it does happen we get all those pieces, it will be a fun puzzle to solve. :)

You're right, I like it myself.. just a little harder to get the puck out of your zone on your back hand! :)
All depends on the player, some like it, Hyman has been able to adjust quite well, and is his preferred side, but others might be handicapped.

Please, the oilers have hard enough time getting the puck out on the wings anyway. May as well move everybody to their offhand wings.
Seriously, either the center carries the puck out or it's a d-man pass. If the puck gets to our wings it almost always gets clogged and pushed into our corner.

Almost 1st goal last night.. looks pretty good.. the guy can skate man. NHL. Ready.
Just needs some conditioning so he can pull NHL top 6 shifts.

I have high hopes for him as well. 6'1, 203, skates like the wind. Can play wing but also a good center that wins draws. He was 57.1% on draws at 19. Has some edge to his game. He has a lot of things the Oilers lack in their top 9.

I have high hopes for him as well. Local boy makes good would be a great addition to the legendary Oiler history. I just want to see him have the chance to over ripen, at least a little.I certainly believe Holloway has so much potential that should be turned into action, and it's just a question of when. "When" is the big question. I just hope the Oilers don't put him in a situation where the pressure on Holloway becomes too much.
Holloway was injured during the WJC of 2019-20, so he has gone more than a calendar year healing. I know the Oiler organization has a history of providing misleading information about player injuries, but Holloway's injury status and recovery seemed to be a pretty drawn out process. He does seem to have done all the right things to get over the injury but it's the Oilers. Proceed with extreme caution.

I'm concerned that when Holland said 'the answers are in the room' he meant Holloway.

I think you're right, ideally you keep Holloway in Bako until next season.. but, he's substantially better now than current wingers in the top 9, and probably even top 6. And there is a season of McD & LD contracts in peril of being nullified, I think you need to take the chance that Holloway makes a significant difference. His compete level, skating and skill is NHL elite, I think he will excel.
