Dare I say the goaltender was a factor tonight? Well done.

Dave’s getting take-out and doing it twice with the wife tonight.

Sleep tight Kenny.

Hey Razaa what’s it like to suck worse than the Oilers?

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Did Drai just set an NHL record? He scored a goal with 0.1 second left. That is, if I saw the replay right.

Looks like a sub 0.1 goal. Barely touching the red line still with 0.1. Next frame it's in with 0.0

Know this is downer talk, but still can't believe that Tippett being forced to play Bouch on the 1st PP with barrie out ends up what gives this team a boost to save him from losing 14 in a row.

Just amazing.

On a night Koskinen is possessed by Dominic Hasek no less. Maybe someone sacrificed a chicken?

Agree with an earlier post, that's a goalie win.....he outplayed the other guy, with support on the scoreboard.

The 3rd was a rope a dope for large stretches, Oilers D just constantly icing the puck. You can tell the team is handling it like grenades in their own zone, they're not dealing with those cross seam passes by the Flames who got several open looks. Flames entered the zone with impunity. This wasn't a bunch of Condors tonight on D, and the game was mostly over their heads. Tough night for the Oilers D and forwards clearing their zone. Luckily iffy goals againts didnt stand as the difference and tonight at least, the goaltender bailed them out.

Oh and LD makes an appearance with 4 points, Bouchard awesome as a shoot option on the PP point, and Perlini is becoming my underdog fave as a guy in the bottom 6 who is not scared to snipe.

This is still a sh#tshow unless somehow the current group shows different. A win provides freaking satisfaction though.

Shake the man's bloodied hand if someone did it. I've been suggesting that astute strategy off and on for years.... icon_lol

I’m gonna put the wine coloured glasses on here...

In the coming days this group is getting Nuge back, this team is getting Hyman back, this team is getting Barrie back (which means no more koekkoek).. and this team is adding Evander Kane.

Let’s go for a rip.

Know this is downer talk, but still can't believe that Tippett being forced to play Bouch on the 1st PP with barrie out ends up what gives this team a boost to save him from losing 14 in a row.

Just amazing.

Agreed, he also played Perlini for an extra 2 1/2 minutes too and look how that turned out! 4 goals in 7 games and still getting the least ice time on the team. Yamo sees 21 minutes of getting beatdown by Looch. Luckily Drai wasn't wasted on the PK again and had some energy left down the stretch. Great win for the team but not a good optic on the coaching.

Pretty ironic if the plan indeed was to fire Tippett if that game was a loss. (Stupid of course to make any decisions on anyone come down to a one-game result, but that’s another story.)

Tippett still tried his best to lose - Draisaitl puts the team ahead with 5 minutes to go and he immediately throws Ryan and Shore out to see if they can give it back.

I’m pretty sure he chucked that line out after the power plays too, both Bouch goals and then after the one that started the 3rd.

With Hyman and Nuge back shortly, hopefully it’ll mean Shore and Ryan eat popcorn. Getting Kane in here too... could go for a rip.

I'm just glad the goaltending problem has been solved. That, as we all know, is THE problem.

He must not be on Twitter.

I'm just glad the goaltending problem has been solved. That, as we all know, is THE problem.

I have to say, the Chicken Little comments would seem so much more pointed if the sky wasn’t always falling down on the Oilers.

Or if those who whine about people pointing out the issues with the team were ever right with their blind hope.

My blind hope will prevail! This time next week when Hyman, Nuge and Barrie are back AND Evander Kane is on the roster. Oh baby!

Meh. It's all cyclical. Cynical? One of the two.

The Oilers have been getting goalied a lot lately, the Florida game the latest example. Nice to see the Oilers get the better goaltending effort in a game for a change, doesn't happen a lot.

Big win for the team. They needed that badly.

I have zero ill will for Koskinen. He's a goalie who can at times give you good games but just isn't consistent enough and lately he's been struggling big time. His contract makes it worse for him but it's not his fault he was offered that contract by Chia. You could see based on his reaction how much wining that game meant to him. I am happy for the guy and hope it's a springboard for more to come as it's been tough on the whole team.

I am the type of fan who doesn't care how you win games, just win.

I don't see Saturday's game as anything more than the Oilers simply outscored their problems. Again. This is where caring about how games are won matters. We know the Oilers can't simply outscore their problems all the time. Eventually they always run into a wall where the power play cools of or penalties simply aren't called.

For what it's worth, with the Oilers monumental win Saturday they are now only 4 points out of the final wildcard spot and 7 behind Anaheim for third.

Certainly not. It's already been decided that goaltending, and only goaltending, is to blame. Who picked the tenders or decides when they play or the defense in front of them is completely off the hook.

It's a shame that Mike Smith has so unpredictably been injured this season. If he was in his normal Vezina candidate form, are we having any of these conversations?

Did we blame goaltending last year when the Oilers were sliding? I can't remember who we were mad at during the three game Leafs' sweep. I'm fairly certain Smith caught a little blame during the playoffs.

I thought Ethan Bear was the problem in the playoffs?

Also the three game slide just showed that the Oilers weren't yet ready to "go for it". Wasn't so much anyone to blame, just took the pressure off Holland to make any big moves since there was no way anyone could beat the Leafs last year.

Bear comes to mind too. He never learned that scoring on your own net with super passive defense and swinging your stick around to hit it directly in or deflecting it in is infinitely better than a bad pass that leads to a goal against.

I don’t mind Foegle though.

Technically his bad pass was before the benching. After he finally got on the ice, he was getting yelled at by his coach to get OFF the ice just in time for the Winnipeg goal.

I like Foegele too - just think there were probably other ways to acquire the player that didn't include a good young cost-controlled right shot defenceman.

Also, pretty sure Caleb Jones gets some share of the blame for Winnipeg last year. If he'd played better earlier in the year, then maybe Tippett would have had him playing over Koekkoek just back from a long injury - but once you burn that bridge in March, the coach can't very well play you in May!

"Thinking that a bad team's best players are the reason the team is bad is the "Tambellini re-signing Lennart Petrell" of sports opinions." @Woodguy55
