Is Auston the type of friend we want our Connor spending time with? I don't like those Matthews, they're always up to no good.
|
Oh god damn it.
At least McDavid should be immune for a while still :)
Matthews has probably caught it 3 times by now.
|
What are we accusing Matthews of having caught?
|
With his pants down.

Definitely less worried this time around given what I've heard about the experience from some family members who caught the Omicron (presumably) over the the Xmas break in London.
Get well soon, Connor. We don't want Tippett to have any excuses as we slide deeper into this epic losing streak.

As is customary, I blame his girlfriend.
Says he's already tested negative afterwards, so hopefully just a quick little spurt in the upper reparatory system that he already beat off.

Oh well, they probably weren't going to get PP opportunities or stops in net anyway. I'm looking for a way or reason to embrace what's going to happen. I want to see how much LD has in the tank late in games after 26 min/night in Connor's absence, being ridden like a rented mule by Tippet.

Drai might be putting in 30+ mins if McDavid doesn't get to play.

The optimist in me thinks this is an opportunity for depth players to get some extra minutes and start to become more productive so when Connor comes back they can (a) ease him back into playing minutes and (b) maybe find a way for him to have 18 super productive minutes per night rather than 24 scramble filled minutes full of desperation.
The optimist in me is well aware they started Smith on consecutive road games coming right off injury with predictable results.

Other clubs find a way to do this, adversity and injury allow depth players to assume more minutes and role changes. Goaltending depth in the organization is elevated as well in the face of injury and poor performance. Teams pivot to changes in systemic strategy that recognizes the realities of their personnel and their abilities. These are the Oilers though and Tippett will continue to ignore the law of diminishing returns. Drai will center 2 lines, kill penalties, and play the entirety of their one PP opportunity.

Yamamoto joining McDavid et al. on the Covid list. Does Cooper Marody get a call up, or do the Oilers just run:
Puljujarvi
Kassian
Turris
Holland's nephew by marriage (probably)
down the right side?
141 points in 152 career AHL games for Marody, not sure what else he needs to prove down there to get a look with big club. Nevermind, I see now that Kyle Turris has a GF% of 31% with the Oilers at 5x5, so they should probably continue to give him minutes. Marody would obviously be way worse.
Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

I cannot see Monday's game taking place. Just get it over. Have a covid party and get everyone on the team infected.
Hopefully all are experiencing mild to no effects.
I cannot wait for things to return to a semi-permanent-normal.

It likely doesn’t matter any more at this point, but it’s obvious that certain teams are not following the league’s protocols to prevent spread.

Lots of measures work but most people don’t have the desire or mettle to stick with them two years in, and with a virus that has basically become a super contagious seasonal cold for the vaccinated.

If the measures can't be adhered to, they don't work. Which is sort of pointless to say since the measures don't work even when they are adhered to (citation: Antarctica story). But the good news is the vaccine worked at turning this into the common cold so we shouldn't need to worry about the measures, which aren't working or being adhered to, anymore. Sounds like mission accomplished to me.
