NHL has postponed all cross border games through Christmas. This includes Oilers vs ANA on Mon, Oilers@LA on Wed and Oilers@SJ on Thurs.

Update: Dec 27 @ CGY now postponed well.

Colour me unsurprised. Probably the right thing to do.

Is Puljujarvi stuck in Seattle?

The schedule just looks ridiculous right now:
Tonight - 1 game (Stars/Wild) and four postponements.
Tomorrow - 4 games and 6 postponements
Wednesday - 0 games, 4 postponements
Thursday - 5 games and 10 postponements

I suppose if you can play the games, it saves a lot of headaches to just have them play now so long as those teams don't all end up sick too. That's 10 less games that they have to re-schedule. Still, it seems funny to have only a handful of teams still playing.

Gotta think between this and the quarantine rules, there's almost zero chance NHLers are going to China. I still wonder if the whole thing doesn't get pushed to next year like we saw with the summer games...

They're not going to China. That dream is all but done. They'll use their built in buffer to reschedule games and hope this doesn't happen again.

Of course it will happen again, but that's a problem for another day,

Well, most importantly, the score prediction on Oilfans is facked. I really had the feeling that my strategy to pick the Oilers to win 95% of their games by a 4-3 score was about to pay off.... confused2

Samarukov + Ceci looks interesting.. KKKK + Barrie not so much.

I think Foogle + 97 + 18 will be pretty effective, expect a good cycle.. and McD gets free .
Question: if you're a D-man and McD doesn't have the puck what do you do? If he has the puck typically he'd get all the focus and double teamed, easier choices from a decision making perspective, McD makes the decision for you, less confusion between the opposition players, they can let a defensive game strategy guide them, when someone else has the puck you need to switch focus and make more decisions... you need to go after the guy with the puck.. but what do you do with McD? What do we do now? Who takes him? ..me or the other guy? and with more decisions come more mistakes.
So, I'm hoping that with a decent puck possession cycle between Foegele and Hyman, there will be a lot of missed defensive assignments by the opposition, and with it more grade A scoring opportunities.

NHL is postponing games in Canada due to attendance restrictions. Thankfully, the Oilers are on the road for a few weeks.

That's an extra full week off for the team. That's far from ideal. I'm not sure the Olympic break is going to be enough to catch us up.

Sounds like the NHL just doesn't like what it's hearing from the Canadian provincial governments, and hoping they can wait them out. I wonder if there's a neutral site arena in the US where they could sell tickets in a hurry?

No chance they could generate as much revenue as a 50% full Rogers. We’re more likely to see forfeits due to the political environment at this point. I think the provinces should stick to their guns.

Oddly, there is a home game with OTT between NYI and MIN that seems to be still be scheduled to go. Is OTT so bad of a draw that they don't care if the building is half full?

I'm wondering if the league will schedule the @SJ and @LA games during the Oilers cancelled home games?

Looks like they could schedule @SJ on Sunday and maybe squeeze in @LA on Wed (would really be pushing LA as it would mean 6 games in 8 nights).

If you're facing the Oilers, you pressure them. whoever has the puck gets pressure all the time. It's what teams have evolved into doing on our PP and why we can't score anymore. most of our team is not good enough under pressure to make a smart play. We either throw a weak chance on net, or send the puck around behind the net where it can be someone else's fight.

These postponements might be a lifeline considering availability of players on the roster and how they've been playing. Unlikely Tippet gets skidded during this break, but Holland had better have a plan B for coach, and he needs to make roster moves either internally or externally in net. Neither tender inspires confidence right now.

These postponements might be a lifeline considering availability of players on the roster and how they've been playing. Unlikely Tippet gets skidded during this break, but Holland had better have a plan B for coach, and he needs to make roster moves either internally or externally in net. Neither tender inspires confidence right now.

This seems a no brainer time to make a coaching change actually. The new person would have a significant amount of time to implement any changes he wanted and to acquaint himself with the roster. The team should pull the trigger now, or at latest after the Ottawa game.

Although it would be peak Oilers to hold off, lose a bunch more in late January and fire Tippett two or three weeks from now instead as the team goes in to a busy stretch of make-up games...

Adam, what you don't seem to understand is a manager like Holland needs time to properly evaluate and consider a decision like that.

You have to give him a chance to lose 12 in a row behind the bench IMO.

Thank you for your patience as we worked through the most recent COVID protocols set out by Alberta Health Services and the Government of Alberta.

Today, we are addressing the Oilers next home game scheduled for Monday, January 10 vs Ottawa.

1. We are pleased to inform you that although arena capacity has been reduced temporarily, your tickets for Monday’s game remain valid. This includes any tickets to Monday’s game you may have already forwarded, posted for resale or resold.
2. Food and beverage services will not be available during Monday’s game, however Studio 99 will be open for pre-game dining, and Molson Hockey House in Ford Hall will be open all evening for snacks and beverages. Please note food and beverages may not leave Studio 99 or Molson Hockey House. Reservations for Studio 99 are required and may be made online through Open Table.
3. As announced last week, the Oilers home games originally scheduled for January 8, 12 and 14 have been postponed and will be rescheduled for later this season. Yesterday, the NHL announced the Oilers home game scheduled for Tuesday, January 18 vs. Chicago has also been postponed and will also be rescheduled for later this season.
4. Since the Oilers will not play at home again after Monday, January 10 until Thursday, January 20, we will take advantage of that window to evaluate any changes to current COVID protocols, and then communicate your future ticket options to you no later than Monday, January 17.
Thank you for your patience as we navigate through these protocols and schedule changes, and we look forward to seeing you at Rogers Place.

I really really had hoped that my tickets were canceled for this game, but I got the same "good news" too.

Don't infuse logic into this! It's unlikely they take advantage of this because it's the Oilers and Holland quite possibly still thinks he has the coach and personnel in place to get this done. And who knows when Holland's time is up?

They might make the wrong choice for HC to replace Tippett but there's really nothing to be lost in losing Tippett as a HC at this stage. He's probably not able to sell himself as a guy with solutions to the players at this point.

Ottawa game moved to next weekend. More cases. Good times

In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

The new cases would be Benson and Foegele.

McDavid, Barrie, and Ryan were eligible to come out of protocol today.

As far as been reported, I think all these players have been vaccinated.

Of course they are. Otherwise they wouldn’t be able to cross the border.

You can still catch it, vaccine just makes it a lot more mellow. I know first hand this.
