So if I'm reading this right, our D corps will have Barrie, Russell, and 4 guys with a combined 74 games of NHL experience? icon_eek

I'm scared to watch...

Going into the season, the Oilers top 7 dman in no particular order would have been Nurse, Barrie, Bouchard, Keith, Ceci, Koekkoek, Russell. They are now into their 8, 9th and 10th dman on the depth chart with Broberg, Lagesson and Nemo all up. That's testing the old depth big time.

What it might force the Oilers forward group to do is tighten up defensively. The forwards, especially McD and Leon like to open it up usually at home, so maybe they will have to no be looking to go on offense as much. The Jets game was a prime example that McD and company can play defense if they want too.

Worry not.
McDavid vs. Goliath .. McD will seize the moment and lead an undermanned crew to victory.

I'm pretty interested to see this pairing, Niemelainen-Broberg, 6'-6" + 6'-3" will be a big unit.

I do think McDavid does get up for games against Crosby. Hopefully tonight is another night where he steps up.

I'm definitely curious to see the deployment of defencemen tonight - who gets the minutes?

Funny to see Tippett playing Broberg on his off side when, last year, the Oilers had to sit Bouchard for 2 months because he couldn't possibly slot in on the left side and instead they had to play Russell (35 games), Lagesson (19 games) & KK (18 games).

Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

As crappy as the situation is, it forces the depth prospects into an NHL lineup and management can get a better understanding if they have a real NHL prospect.. or they don't.. and make future roster decisions and planning with a little more confidence.
It would never have happened with a healthy roster.

For sure. My point is that it's obviously possible and I'm not convinced that Bouchard playing on his off side would have been any worse than any of the guys I listed above. Definitely not so much of a drop off to justify sitting Bouchard for 2 months.

Thought this season was proof that Bouchard was indeed absorbing NHL elite-ness through his eyeballs from up in the rafters. He wouldn't be the player he is today if he didn't stop him from playing last year.

Guy looked pretty good playing full minutes vs a great team, we might have under rated him, his offense isn't there, but he plays pretty smart, few to zero pizzas, which is a trait this team needs, we usually get enough goals for, we just have to limit our GA. I'm happy KR is getting some appreciation as his career winds down, feel good for him, guy never takes a night off.

His offseason training regime is doing a 1000 burpees a day while his kids throw rocks at him. Drop, block, get up, repeat.
