If the Oil are going to take the night off, so will I. Hopefully, the forever "young" Keith isn't hurt to badly because the Oil depth on D is suddenly looking quite thin....

Who gets brought up from Bako for Keith?[ 9 vote(s) ]
1.Niemelainen 4 / 44%
2.Berglund 3 / 33%
3.Samorukov 2 / 22%

Who gets the call up if Keith is gone on IR?

I'm thinking Niemelainen.

Samo is just getting his feet going after injury, I doubt he's it. Berglund also too green.

McDAVID! Oh YEAH Baby!!

What a garbage game by everyone. Skinner played well. Could have had the 2nd goal maybe, but the other 3 you can’t fault him on. Up there with one of the worst games I’ve seen from McDavid.

And the refs…oh the refs. I think they just called that one at the end to bring our PP% down and to say “see - McDavid drew a penalty “. Such garbage.

As feared effort left behind with the luggage.

Skinner played well despite getting shelled for 4.
A break away (#22 misplay)
A double tip on the PP
A cross ice one timer on the PP
A screened tip..

Poor guy was left on his own all night.. and still made some great saves.

After initial good impression at start of season, D. Ryan not getting much done these days as 4th line C, or on PK.

McD double, triple, quadruple teamed, and both JP and Hyman unable to finish McD set ups, beginning to be a thing for a few games now.

Crap reffing, 5 Dallas PP's to Oiler's 1. Several calls made that were not the other way.

At least McLeod seems to be getting his legs under him.

Broberg seems to have fit in, pretty solid, and you can see the potential to be a future top 2 puck carrier.

Bouchard showing some regression in the defensive end, getting lost positionally, coughing up pucks, inability to box out forwards..

I suspect somewhere in that luggage compartment is some misplaced effort

Oilers really don't seem to do well v. larger teams.
The Size seems to bottle up the flow of the game, forced to slog through bodies, some Oil willing/able to do, some aren't.

With a repeat of tonight's performance, and back-to-back games, I predict a disappointing loss in the desert. Koski fumbles, and bumbles early, Oil get down 3, and come back to make it 3-2, with an EN against, 4-2 final.

Albeit on goals Koski should stop. Wont be double tips, breakaways and cross ice one timers.

It’s a good thing this team banked points early on, though they squandered 4 points by having their heads up their butts v Detroit and Buffalo.

There's no gimme's in this league, but when they do have a talent advantage, they have a bad tendency to forget to produce the required focus and effort.

Now 12-5, tomorrow's game will be close, they have the talent advantage, but the work effort is TBA.

I seem to feel a lot more secure with Skinner in net v. Koski now days.. not sure if that is a positive or negative.

Don’t show up, don’t get two points.
This is a thing. They feel their way into games.
And now Russell is the #1LD. Good freaking times

In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

I'm going to put this down to one of those games, one or two of the players turned up, loved the performances of Skinner, Broberg, McLeod and Foegele.

Skinner showed up again, at last we may have found someone in the system that can step up and we don't have to trade for a goalie.

Broberg, seriously that's his second NHL game? Looked like he'd played two or three hundred. Didn't like losing the young D men in the summer, but we had others behind ready to step up.

McLeod seems to finding his way around in games. If he carries on like this he'll soon find himself firmly in our bottom 6 for the next season or two for sure.

Foegele after a bit of a false start looks like he's settling into the team and playing his role. The goals will come if he carries on chipping away like he did last night.

As for the rest of the team, meh they just didn't show up. I can't blame them though, with the refs putting the whistles away when the Oilers had the puck. At times I was wondering if our bench should offer them a pair of glasses just so they can actually see what's going on. It's as if they are peeved at us for daring to call them out in 2017... They didn't cost us the game, but they certainly helped tip it in the favour of Dallas.

I agree with you on who showed up. I Broberg looked good again. McLeod looked good and is looking like he might be the answer to the 3rd line center. I thought Skinner was decent and Foegele looked decent. I actually thought Ceci was alright and as a pair, Ceci and Broberg looked OK and I actually didn't think Russell and Barrie were bad.

I thought the top 6 was awful. McD looked checked out. He was brutal on that Gurianov goal, did a total fly bye, I can't be bothered to check. Generated zero on offense. Of that top line I thought JP was the best of them but that isn't saying much. Hyman I didn't know he even played.

Leon was the best of his line but that isn't saying a ton. I don't blame him on his cross check penalty. He easily took 4 in the back before he got knocked down with another one. Gets up and is pissed - I would be - gives one back and of course he gets called.

I thought Nuge and Yamo were brutal. They did nothing and if you look at their stat lines for the game, they had zeros. So that backs up my statement. The PK wasn't good and Hyman, Nuge and Yamo are 3 out of the 4 main PK forwards. They all were terrible so was the PK.

I know depth is important but when your whole top 6 is awful, it's pretty rare your team will win. I like the players in the Oilers top 6 but man, when it's not working, or they aren't in it or the opposition has a good night shutting them down, they look brutal and do not seem to have either the ability or what I believe is THE WANT to change their game when needed. Sometimes you have to simplify the game and play more basic put it on goal, look for tips and rebounds and they do not seem to be able to or don't want to ever do that.

Keith in limited time had some struggles. Bouchard was ROUGH last night.

The reffing. It's becoming a broken record but seriously, come on!! It says 5-2 in penalties which in itself looks bad but when you look at actual PP time. 1 "PP" the Oilers got was 30 seconds after they killed off some, then was 4 on 4. The other came with like 28 seconds left in the game. So combined they got maybe 1 min total while the Stars got about 9 mins, maybe more. Keith took a stick in the face in the first, McLeod got one inches from his eye. I mentioned the easily 5 cross checks Leon got in the back before he got fed up and gave one back. The Oilers didn't play well but the reffing sure didn't help things. That last night was a classic game where the refs let the OLD because the stars are loaded with old guys, team do whatever the hell they wanted to the young team.

Pretty futile to put much positive spin on that performance. Leia and RDOF touched an all of the visible positives in that game Hoping it was a one off. Dallas played well, but were not here to compliment the Stars.

I don't know if offering the officials glasses would make any difference. I'm sure any of them needing corrective vision measures wear contact lenses (hopefully when they are on the job.)

The forwards didn't generate very many SOG's.Ryan, Foegle, Perlini, Kassian, Yamamoto, Sceviour,Nugent-Hopkins all with zero shots. I get annoyed when fans yell "shoot" most of the time, but making too many cute passes isn't very productive either.

What's with all the left side D getting hurt? Klefbom and Nurse already missing and now the rest are getting banged up at an alarming rate.

Might have been the poorest performance I've seen from Bouchard. Can't pin the loss on him, but that was a game that much was expected of him.

Agreed, Oilers right now are too small and timid to play against Heavy playoff formatted teams. I hope Holland catches on...

I agree with you on the left side. Losing Klefbom for probably good is a tough pill to swallow. You draft the guy, develop the guy, go through all the pain you tend to get from Dmen in the early years as they develop and mature as NHL dman. In a lot of cases, once they hit 25/26 they have grown enough, have enough strength and have enough games and experience to where they are at the start of their premium years with the 25/26 - 32 being their premium years. Klefbom is 28, almost missed 2 years already plus had this issue before and how he's probably done. So the Oilers got robbed of the premium hockey from him.

Then this year, they lose Nurse and Koekkoek in the same game. So their #1 and #3 best left shot guys. Now they may have lost their #2 last night. So 3 left guys in a span of a week. Pretty tough to replace 3 guys at the same position all at once.

But it's not like we don't know this is going to happen every year and twice as much in playoffs. Sure it would be nice if the NHL wasn't run by a cabal of useless nincompoops, but it is and a smart team would plan accordingly.

I mean, shut up and play harder.

Klefbom only got hurt in stretch drives for playoffs and positioning. Too early for him to be hurt, games aren't important enough yet.

I don't think its just size, its the timidity of some, if a guy like Perlini (6'-3" x 211) forechecked or hit like a Josh Archibald, then you'd have an everyday 3rd line player. He's got all the tools, but no will to use it. He's just an example, the lack of guys finishing off checks, not board rattling hits, just greasing guys out along the boards as they get rid of the puck, they're already there, but decide to just skate on by... can never figure that one out.

I think Holland and co. have caught on, they've brought in guys like Hyman, Foegle, and more size, but some of the guys with size play meek.
