2 shots 2 saves so far for Skinner and one was caught high glove.
I am NOT saying Skinner is better than Kosko but that is a much better start.
Kass fighting Stanley is scary , especially once his lid came off. Glad he didnt end up with a shot in the head again.

When you spot the other team 4 goals in the previous game, you may tend towards tightening up, especially when the backup is in net. Can we already say things are better in that they aren't already losing?

Wayne Gretzky wine ad behind the Oilers net. I wonder how much he actually pays for that?

Ugh, the Oil need to do better on these PP opportunities and account for the aggressiveness of the Jets' PK play.

The Oilers just look so sub-standard against the Jets. I don't understand it.
D is loose as eff, guys aren't bearing down on chances... Skinner holding them in this game.
There's nothing quite like a couple of games against effing Winnipeg to take the wind out of the Oilers sails...

Seriously, Benson? What's in the penalty box that has you so eager to stay there? Naked puck bunny?

One of your few posts not during work hours and this is what you came here to say? Are you actually watching the game? The first call was a phantom call. the second one was a bit of shot but not over the top.

Decent 40 mins by a few guys. Definitely better as a team than the game on Tues.
Skinner and Hellebuyck have both made a bunch of good saves. Pretty physical game overall and I am happy with the amount of push the Oilers have come back with this game. Glad to see they didn't wilt after being beat physically last game.
Now they need to turn up the speed and push the game downhill on the Jets. Let them take penalties and make the Jets pay.

I'm fine calling that, if (yep, here it comes) they called that big old slash, or the Von Miller approved tackle on 97 earlier on. I guess McDavid needs to start screeching like a cat in heat every time he gets mugged out there.

I skip intermissions most of the time but tuned in at the end of this one. I saw Gene and Bob talking with a third guy about goalies. Who was he?
I ask as he was talking about head tracking and was surprised. This almost never gets talked about and it is a huge part of goaltending.
I never played the position in hockey but soccer keeper for a long time. My goalie coach talked head tracking every single training session. At half time he would bring it up almost every game.
I noticed in the first how much better it looked like Skinner was tracking the puck VS both Smith/Kostko. Skinner looks very in control most of the time.
*ETA, they just called him "Gager, the goalie whisperer". Am I the only one who doesn't know this mystery man?

I don't know, Benson's played all of 3:34 in this game, including I believe not a shift so far in the third so you can probably fully judge his game from that. What's that, 5 shifts? If he can't get at least two goals in that time, we should probably give up on him entirely.

Good point. Back to the AHL he should go, no hockey player in there at all. Hopefully Shore is in the lineup soon to give the bottom 6 boost.

Gage and Brathwaite backed up Billy Ranford & Curtis Joseph in the mid-90s here. A couple years in a row, the starter got hurt late in the season and the two of them dropped the ball entirely, cratering the team's chances of playoffs. That would lead the Oilers to pick up Essensa for the back-up for 1996-97 and to give up on both of them.
