It wasn't pretty and that second period was horrid, but we couldn't get any lines going with the way the penalties were called. Yammo scoring is a weight off his shoulders, now if we can get Nuge and Benson a goal we'll be good to go.

Two points, despite the ringside assistance. Earl Hebnar would of been proud of this crew tonight.

Dear god that was horrid officiating. Bush league. Absolutely no respect for McDavid in this league.

I don't think they played particularly well, but Koskinen was fine. PK was perfect. Really happy to see Turris and Yamamoto get one each.

Bouchard needs to have a look before getting rid of the puck - so many giveaways. Other than that, stud in the making.

Goaltending and special teams the difference in this one. Oilers out-scoring chanced 30-19 at 5x5.

Oilers currently running a 33.3% GF% (5 GF / 10 GA), without Connor or Leon on the ice. Early days, but not sure that this team is much different than what we've seen in the past.

The powerplay is ridiculous, and the PK has been very good. Bottom 6 is not cutting it, despite the 3rd line looking better.

Koskinen was good again, I'd give him the night off against Nashville. Time to start managing his workload a bit. Starting with the game against Detroit next week and ending with Chicago, the Oilers will play 7 games in 12 days including a back-to-back and 3 games in 4 nights. And it's the first stretch where the Oilers will play a bunch of quality teams. Would be good to get him a bit of a break before then.

If they don't, and he melts down half-way through that stretch, that's on Tippett.

Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

Maybe I missed it, but has there been any update on Smith? Wasn't he supposed to be out a week or so? Has there been a set back?

Yeah, out a week is turning into a decent bit more. Agree with Goose, Kostko needs a break. He's gone against what typically happens lately when he plays so much, but that can turn any moment. We know where his game can go when he's finally exhausted.

I'm pretty sure Koskinen is the only goalie on the roster right now. Otherwise Tippett would've started the other guy at some point, knowing Koskinen's history of running out of gas when overplayed.

Oilers won convincingly but they will not beat a top end team with a performance like that.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

I read somewhere that he skated with the team yesterday morning, so it sounds like he may be close.

Some good news, maybe?

Tom Gazzola @TomGazzola

Mike Smith working in his own net. Mikko Koskinen and Stuart Skinner sharing one. Good sign Smith is almost ready for a return?

Update- now seeing reports that Kosko is in his own net while Smith and Skinner are splitting a net. Either way, he is on the ice and practicing with the team

Lines on Tuesday appeared as follows:

Hyman - McDavid - Puljujärvi
RNH - Draisaitl - Yamamoto
Foegele - Ryan - Kassian
Perlini - Shore - Turris
Benson, Sceviour

Defence:

Nurse - Bouchard
Keith - Ceci
Koekkoek - Barrie
Russell

Goal:

Koskinen
Smith
Skinner

If Smith comes off IL, who comes off the roster? Skinner should be playing, seems like he should be the one sent down, assuming Smith is totally good to go.

No point in keeping three goalies. If Smith is ready, then Skinner is redundant.

No point? Are you forgetting the value in watching games from the press box and practicing with real NHL players?
