Game 55 for Oilers, game 56 for Habs. This will be two disinterested teams going through the motions.

Just turned it on, see the oilers are down 1 on the first shot. That didn't surprise me. What surprised me is Smith is in net.

Oh look, Montreal gets some game time for their 3rd goalie. What a strange concept. Tippett will just let Stalock stagnate, then he'll be useless when the team inevitably needs him after an injury.

well, thats not great.
Are we sure that is Smith in goal and not Koskinen wearing his jersey. Neither one of those were great goals. Both chances came because of bad play by others but both seemed like routine saves.

Reminds me of beer league hockey were every shot has a decent chance of being a goal.

First goal on Kahun, standing around doing nothing, has nobody, fails to cover Caulfield. He's not an answer on #1 LW with McD.. he'll be vapourized in the playoffs.
2nd goal dopey play by Barrie, looked like a rookie, backed in so far he might as well just given Suzuki a break away.
Some dopey play on D overall, #70, #22

I didn't go back and watch but wasn't the first goal a tape to tape pass from Barrie to Caufield? If so that isnt on Kahun. Once our D has the puck his job as a winger is to give said D a target on an outlet pass.
If my memory is correct that would be 100% on Barrie.

Passed out by Barrie to Kahun, pass went right through Kahun, to Caulfield, and Kahun unaware Caulfield was near him, too slow to react.. snap.. goal

I’ll also admit that I thought we were getting Ottawa Kyle Turris. Hadn’t really paid attention to Nashville Turris last year.
You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

It's a little surprising we didn't see more out of Turris last night. Playing a scrimmage squad from Montreal, getting a push playing beside Draisaitl...and in over 15 minutes of ice time he manages all of one shot. He may only get one more chance to prove to Tippett that he's a good injury replacement.
The big problem is that he's still got another year on that deal...

I saw Turris win a puck battle and turn one over. That's a first this year. I was talking about whipping boys in another thread, Turris would probably be getting more of that if he was playing more.
I think I heard mention of Neal and his speed being not up to par since his return, I disagree. I think he's moving pretty well out there, and such an opportunistic guy who can snipe. I think he's going to be useful in the playoffs. They're going to need 2017 playoff Kassian too.
Smith takes a shin to the head there....FFS Tip, he shouldn't even be in the game, you stubborn fark.

I'll add that after talking up Neal, the McLeod line has been outclassed and spent the last 2 or 3 shifts in it's own zone chasing around. Go figure.

Oilers PP is just deadly. Their playoff downfall will be when the refs just refuse to call penalties.

Jones with the 2nd helper. I wonder about how this pairing might fold under playoff pressure.

Jones is long on try. He honestly does try.
He just doesn't thing the game at an NHL level yet, at least not consistently enough to hold down a regular spot. He and Kulikov are going to give up a lot of opportunities in the playoffs.

On Kulikov. At least twice per game I am surprised by him making a rush up ice. I see him take off, head up, carry the puck into the offensive zone with speed.
Every time I am surprised he has it in him then realize it is #71 with the puck not number 70. The two of them coming in at roughly the same number is something by brain has yet to fully process apparently.
Similar thing when Joel Edmundson plays against Edmonton. Apparently I am too dumb to process that as well.
