1st shot goes in? Sounds about right for when Koskinen is in net.
Not that there was much he could have done about that, but it's still funny (in a sad way)

Over the last 10 years we have to have the worst save % on the first shot of the game.

That’s not offside. Not sure what they’re still looking at.

I think we can maintain that if we keep starting games with the 4th line and let the other team take the 1st shot from 10 feet in front of the net wide open.

What on Earth is Tippett doing.

Oh I’m not faulting Koskinen on that one. Was just a comment on how often it seems we get scored on our first shot.

And yeah - way to set the pace starting the 4th line.

It's an amazing thing that we've managed to do since Dubs and Eakins. Dubs, Talbot, Scrivezina, Koski all turned into that guy. I think Smith too last year early on. Having zero confidence goalies combined with team half-arsing the start of games (with some extra help from Tippett tonight with his 4th line, 3rd pair start). Wonder if we have been leading the league in 1st shot goals against since 2013.

No worries.

Just gotta wait until Montreal lets us have a wide open shot 10 ft in front of their goalie. Or lets us have 2 guys completely wide open around the goalie with the puck there.

I'm sure Montreal will abide.

Well just fired this up and this isn't good down 2 not even 5 in. Someone answered already if the 1st went in on Koski. Of course. Whatever game plan they had is out the window and down early like this doesn't bode well.

Tip still sticking with the combos.

I'm not even sure the first one was on Koskinen. It was a 3-2 (actually 4-2) and no forward seemed to care about taking a guy.

A little behind on the PVR, but that first (or the second for that matter) was not Koskinen's fault at all. He has, however looked really out of sorts on just about any other shot coming his way.

Refs doing their usual dance - how does Weber not get a penalty for grabbing and pulling down Tyson B. right in front of the ref when Barrie stepped round him??? (especially since a minute or two before the Oilers were killing a penalty to Turris for a less obvious hold than Weber's)

Kostko's confidence is definitely toast, which is almost always the end of a goalie here. Not sure what we do with goalie coaching, but every guy since Dubs has left here a total confidence-free wreck that looks like they've forgotten all goalie fundamentals that has to rebuild their career somewhere else. Smith may be the first exception. Smith probably doesn't need coaching or anyone pumping his confidence hehe.

This team isn’t going to fancy pants it’s way back into this game. It’s going to take some hard work and effort. It may even result in some PP time.

Please Leon. Limit the fancy blind back passes if at all possible. Don’t need any plays dying at this juncture and score.

This team is having several brain lapses in their end. And Koskinen looks completely lost all the time too.

It’s like they are nervous about him and vice-versa.

We have the same posts about Talbot and Dubs too. Team doesn't trust the goalie anymore, everyone plays tentative in front of him which is a feedback loop to things getting worse. Goalies confidence keeps cratering, players get even more tentative.

So only solution I guess is get another goalie. And it probably happens again, but at least there may be some good period of time before the players don't trust the goalie anymore. Of course we will never look at fixing our goalie coaching because everything is perfect there.

Maybe there is some credit to be given to Smith. He may have a personality that just beats that kind of feedback loop. His confidence in himself doesn't drop. Just being an unpredictable nut can sometimes get him in trouble, but whatever, he just keeps on going trying to do what he does. Hard to get goalies based off personality though.

And we probably dodged a bullet with Markstrom.

I like it too. Watched a clip where Lemieux was getting raped all day and finally tossed a butt end. McDavid’s actions should speak louder than words. Refs aren’t calling the clutch and grab then send a message.

Exact same play on Yamamoto, no call.

So frustrating either call it both ways or don’t.

Elbow didn’t come up and Yams still had the puck.

It’s the grabbing away from the play that never gets called. Do we do this? It never gets shown, but if we aren’t, then we should.

Just tuning in now...

Looks like the boys have really showed up tonight, hey? Lucky to get the win against TO yesterday (had their show run metrics-wise) and getting LIT UP by Montreal so far tonight.

3 - 0 on the scoreboard, shots 16 - 7... AWESOME!!!

Haas. 6:11 TOI. Almost a minute above any other Oil forward. Even with 3 PK kills, that should never happen.

Lol. NHL changed the time to 5:50 behind Archibald and Draisaitl now. I still have the same sentiment.
