Everyone (except TIPPETT) understands that this team cannot beat a team (LEAFS: look at the record) that actually has TWO offensive lines if it goes at them with ONE offensive line. That having 97/29 beat up on a JET or FLAME team is not the same as going against the LEAFS over 60 minutes. NUGE is overmatched everywhere vs TAVARES.
The sooner TIP recognizes this the sooner the OIL will have a realistic chance of getting past the LEAFS in a 7 game series.
REFS have already made it clear that the OIL will not win with their power play... so that is out. What is really sad is that TIPP has already seen what will work... he has used 93/29/56 as dominating scoring line. McD is/was able to hold is own vs the other team/s second line. It worked.
TIPP! wake up. What you are doing is not working vs the LAFFS.
...this time, it's for real (isn't it?).

So weird how 115 game NHL vet Justin Holl has become this guy that refs are OK with just putting his hand into the face of McDavid and Drai all night and grabbing onto them any time he pleases.
TO Media hype seems to add a solid 500 games to his NHL resume.

Just as well Smith is awake, because it doesn't appear that the rest of the team is.

Awful play by Brodie on Archie's goal, but the Leafs love him. Its amazing how much crap people will put up with for a few more points.

Not necessarily that play just a general observation, I agree nurse and barrie weren't to blame there.

I think its a coaching philosophy. Oilers are forechecking with everyone and are continually being caught up ice by quick counter-rushes. I have no idea why they aren't playing like they did last week against the Jets, which was clogging up the neutral zone and counterattacking.

hehe, McDavid and Drai doing their cutesy stuff and constantly gambling to leave our zone early that they usually do when they're put together too long. Played this story out about 20 times since McLellan took over. Bleh... Not encouraged by this one so far.
All on Smith to save the day and hope heads are removed from butts before this game is over.

Mystifying for me why the 2nd best center on the team, arguably in the league is not centering the 2nd line. You've got your top 6 size and the 2 best centers concentrated on the top line so if they're being dominated like tonight, how does a more diminutive 2nd line fare? Mind you they look better than they did Saturday so far.

What? A coach that makes “in game” adjustments?
Blasphemy.
EDIT: Actually I must apologize. He has made in game adjustments in the past by throwing them together. That being said, why can’t he split them up as well? That second line is pop-gun.

Again 1 PP in almost 5 periods in this series. For whatever reason, refs don't call penalties against the Leafs when playing the Oilers.

Early in the second Draisaitl tried to split two dmen for a puck on the half wall. Two arms dig into 29 and they stop the big German. No call. Unless you go down like a $5 hooker, then you ain’t getting the call.
Brutal.

Barrie looking like a turnstile out there tonight, pivots like a rusty hinge.
Bear looking dopey again.
JP looking gassed, the McD/LD shifts might be catching up to him, he probably hasn't had so much ice time in his life, might be wearing him down.
Smith playing great.
Oilers need more speed through the lineup if they plan to ever advance in the playoffs. I would have played Bouchard over Bear, at least you get a guy that can skate with the puck.
Turris no better or worse than Kahun, except he can take face offs.
