What's Koskinen's career SV % on the first shot of the game? I suspect not great.

Koski's in great form to start the game, hey?

The team has zero confidence in front of this dude.

How is this a thing every year with an Oilers goalie? Dating back to Dubs at least. Damn near every guy that has come through in the last decade has turned into some bum letting in the first shot of the game constantly.

Koskinen is an absolute loser. Wouldn’t start on half the teams in the AHL.

I don’t know how we will ever convince Tippett to do it. Ridiculously, he seems to believe Bouchard is no better than his 7th best option.

One of a number of bad decisions we’ve seen due to his love for veterans.

Also I hate the Wild Bill nickname because it’s a David Staples invention. Ugh.

This is a good point.

I’ve heard some talk about Bear not reporting in the same shape he was last year. Could explain why he looks to not have taken a step. Whether he’s scorned bc of how long it took for Holland to sign him or for them bringing Barrie in and pairing him with Darny 🤷🏻‍♂️ Or he simply just wasn’t prepared for the season or he is what he is, a middle or bottom pair dman 🤷🏻‍♂️

Koskinen is shakier than Michael J Fox. I don’t know how anyone has faith in him. The Oilers are doing everything in their power to limit shots on goal. I’m guessing Koskinen feels the pressure and is nit dealing with it well either.

This feels so much like 2006, but with less of chance of filling the hole.

I think there's options out there, Ken's gotta jump quick and get a guy in quarantine. Stalock I'm not too familiar with, I would love to see ken swing for the fences on a good goalie.

Stalock is a solid backup. He’s not young, but cost controlled for another season before The Russian comes over and can get used to the NA ice.

I’m doubting the goaltending can be fixed before the off season when there is cap room. I realize the time is now, but not crazy about mortgaging the future yet. Yet...

Here's my counter-argument:

Toronto 90 GF, 63 GA 18-6-2
Edmonton 86 GF, 82 GA 16-11-0
Carolina 85 GF, 64 GA 17-6-1
Tampa Bay 83GF, 48 GA 17-4-2

The Oilers are among the elite teams in the league at scoring goals this year, so even a marginal improvement in goal could make a pretty big difference. Looking at the records of those other teams, it makes a massive difference.

If you can beat Toronto, you can go to the Conference Finals this year, and there's no world beater in the Western Division (although now it occurs to me that I don't know how the Conference Finals are seeded...)

I think a goalie who can win you games puts this team in a position to make a serious run this year even with the roster's other flaws. If you can tweak a little at the deadline and convince the coach to take the occasional chance with a young guy like Bouchard, the world's your oyster here.

Great points, but a teams GA doesn’t fall entirely on the goaltender. Don’t mistake this statement as an endorsement for our goaltending tandem though. Like you say, a goalie can win you a game here and there. I just think if some of these comparisons were trying to get it done with the Oilers D corps, the differential would not be as glaring as you are illustrating. But yes, our tandem is the worst of those 3 clubs indeed.
