Let's see how the Oil do against the top team in the division (albeit one without one of its top scorers). Here comes a real test of how far they've come along in the past month...

No, they said he sits so that the Oil could put PRuss into the line-up (re: they're going with 6 D-men tonight). It's still a pisser.

What's the over/under on Auston Matthews shoutouts before the end of the third period - 20?

If the Laffs are losing by that time, I bet the number of mentions goes up sharply...

They came back to back but I assume you are referring to the PP goal. He had over committed so far to his left when Marner took the puck around the net he couldnt get back to the right.
He wasnt the only one to blame but he sure isnt blameless.

He has to have the second one. That is a routine shot that an NHL goalie needs to save. He knew it to based on his body language

I'm not faulting Smith entirely on that 2nd goal- Nurse went down far too early and screened him very well instead of trying to play Marner before he pulled the trigger. As I said, piss-poor play by him.

Goals against aside, what's concerning for me is how many chances the Oil have squandered, especially off the many Laffs turnovers in their own zone. You guys have to score on some of those, seriously.....

Very true. Nurse played that poorly as well. I dont think I saw a behind the net replay but it seemed Smith just missed it.

He did make a couple of good saves during the period as well. Hopefully the Oil bury a few of the chances this period to bale out the bad 90 seconds of hockey that got them in this hole.

Seems like Tavares pushed Archie into the crease, and that threw Smith off as he came across. Got his stick caught up with Archie and just didn't get positioned well in the mess. Bummer goal.

Bigger bummer penalty by one of our weak links to just break what was a pretty good chess match of a game up until then.

That was Thornton that crosschecked Archibald into Smith.
Yeah that penalty on Krussell was something you stay away from, never get your arm around a guy its a perfect excuse for a ref to call a penalty even if it didn't impede the guy.. not a veteran move.

I'm an optimist though, Leafs giving up a lot of chances.. just have to keep bringing the effort, wear their D out.. put the body on Muzzin, Bucket-Head Nylander, Tavares, Marner.

5-5 the Leafs are going to really be reduced without Matthews because they folded their 2nd line into the 1st.

But PP will still kill you.

Not a great defensive play by Nurse, but Smith needs to have that.

Maybe time for a trip to Kostko.

Smith was able to bounce back after letting in 3 vs the Dys a few nights ago. Let's see if he can do the same tonight.

Two goals where the D-man failed to bother to block a shot, Bear on the 1st, Nurse on the 2nd..
Nurse collapsed so far down that Marner had a perfect look.

It all started because of a rare mistake by the captain, so Smith doesn't deserve all the blame there.

Oilers making Campbell look like a Vezina contender.

Team not clicking tonight, they'll get another 2 chances.. Bouchard in, Bear, Jones, or Krussell come out.

Leon is labouring.. not 100%

Some nights your goalie calms things down and gives you confidence. Tonight is not one of those nights.

Oilers making Campbell look like a Vezina contender.

Team not clicking tonight, they'll get another 2 chances.. Bouchard in, Bear, Jones, or Krussell come out.

Leon is labouring.. not 100%

Backups are Oilers kryptonite when we're due for a loss. Still surprised we survived last game.

Was a pretty good game until starfish's penalty. We let that just derail our night. Needed to get one past Campbell with all the chances we had early.

The Starfish Kowboy and the Danish Reider should be permanent fixtures on the taxi squad

someone should tell Patty Russell that its not about personal awards and trophies, he needs to get the Toby Rieder Cup off his mind and pop a freaking goal, there's no "I" in team buddy!

Laffs go on a 3rd period melt down, Oilers take it to OT, and McD seals it with a solo highlight rush!!

P. Chiarelli math.. T. Hall = A. Larsson, Yak= bag o'pucks (OK he got one right...) K. Russell = $4.1 M+NMC, G. Reinhart= M. Barzal + A. Beauvillier, J. Eberle = R. Spooner,
