Sucks that this is the last time we see the Reverse Retros in the regular season.

Also Smith!

They may get a couple more games with them, they have asked the league to wear them more. πŸ™πŸΌ

Hopefully they keep it going, for me there is still too much fear that the wheels could fall off at any moment.

One interesting note: the Oil are one of only 3 teams in the league that have not gone to OT in the regular season (the Preds and Wild are the other 2). It really is a "feast or famine" kind of situation with this team in games right now....

Think we played a few seconds in OT. One handed McGoal finish.

Definitely not much OT this year though and no Bettman points.

They won the last game VS the Leafs within the first minute of OT

You're right, I forgot about that OT win over the Laffs nearly a month ago. Still, it's good that they are getting most of their wins in regulation for the sake of tiebreakers.

Well it wasn't pretty, but it was effective to say the least. After the first goal we let them push back for far to long and it worried me, but we held firm and another 2 points will do. Come out of the next series with 2 wins and I'll be very happy indeed.

After the start we had, especially.

Schmitty, JP up on the top line, powerplay figuring it out, pk buttoning down... all big factors in the turnaround.

This should be a pretty good test of where we're at. We're playing in a pretty weak division this year, so we really should be top two all season. It'll be good to see how we stack up against Toronto in this set. Kind of funny to think that we'll be almost done with them for the year after the next week. So far we're 2-2 and they're 2-1-1...so they have a slight edge to date.

So the Nucks have the "lotto line" with 6-Boeser 40-Petterson 9-Miller. Pretty clever.

I nominate our line featuring two Germans and Yamamoto to be Christened the "Axis Line".

Have to say the 3rd line of Khaira, Archibald, Ennis were relentless, really puts the opposition team on their heals, while they are thinking they'll get some relief and advantage with LD and McD off the ice.
Khaira has really stepped up, I think his time on the taxi squad was well spent.. same with Ennis, and Archibald. Can't see Turris coming back unless there's an injury, he's just too slow, and no energy, maybe he'll spend his time on the taxi squad getting into shape for possible future deployment... but I don't hold much hope out for that.

Bouchard looking great
Jones looked better, but still making bad decisions with the puck, too many turn overs

I feel like putting Turris back in to drag his arse around and put in minimal effort would be a great way to help derail this roll the team is on. Please don't do it Tippett.

Fun Turris stat: for players with at least 150 5v5 minutes he's #4 in the NHL in goals against per 60 mins. Only guys worse play for Ottawa. No one on our team is even close to him.

I can't really find a lot of fault in anyone at all. A few mistakes to give up a few great chances to the Canucks to clean up but Smith was there when called upon. Demko made some fantastic stops. What I love is the team continues to win in different ways.

They can win in a defensive struggles. They can win by scoring a ton of goals, they can win by coming back. They won last night with superior special teams and great goaltending.

Smith was fantastic last night and clearly Tippett made the right call in goal though I think Koskinen would have came in and been good as well. Right now he's turning back the clock. As a guy a little over 40, I want whatever he is drinking. icon_lol I don't expect him to keep this up for the whole year but for now, he's on a hot streak which is awesome.

I have to give a shout out to Khaira as I bang on him a lot. I don't know what happened to him when he got put on the taxi squad for the second or 3rd time, I can't remember how many times but since being back, who the hell is this guy? He's been really, really good. He dangled between a couple of Canucks shorthanded and almost scored. Got a break away. He's playing hard, getting in on the forecheck, his line is great and I have always believed a line can only truly go if the center is going. He generates offense, the coach when they need a stop defensive just put his line out there without hesitation and they get the job done. He's money on the PK. To top it off. He was 54 and 63% on faceoffs!! If this is the Khaira moving forward which I don't see why it can't be, they have a legit, reliable, bottom 6 forward here. Great to see.

Big show down with the Leafs.

Re: Khaira, if I'm being honest I thought he might have been done as an Oiler. He had a fantastic game last night. Glad he's playing well, and he's also a rare Oiler that can tangle with another guy if needed, which still has importance.

I felt the same way. I thought after he went in and then got put back on the taxi again I thought that was it for him. We would just see him finish the year on the taxi only getting in if the injuries piled up. For 3 years in a row he showed flashes for a couple of games, people would get excited then it was back to being disengaged and inconsistent. I am not prepared yet to fully buy in to him because like I said, he's shown flashes before but all he has to do is just put in a consistent effort. He's not being asked to play in the top 6, he's just being asked to be a solid, bottom 6 guy who comes to the rink every game and gives you what he has. Nothing about that is beyond his capabilities so hopefully he's finally figured that part out.

Maybe it's just me but I see a ton of players on this team just playing within themselves. They are just going out there game after game, giving it a good effort and just doing the job that the coaches are asking them to do. I am sure better depth helps but I think there is more too it. I just see a whole ton of guys who have figured it out finally. Here is what the coaches want, here is what I do well, this is how I give the coaches what they want. Then repeat.

Guys who are PK guys, do the PK. Guys who are physical, are physical, guys who defend, defend. I am not seeing a lot of guys like as an example Larsson trying to be a puck rushing dman looking to score goals by dangling. He's a hard nose, defensive dman and that it what he's doing every game. I see the same with a lot of guys. They are given a role, being asked to do certain things and they are going out and doing it shift after shift. I haven't seen that in a very long time and I don't think it's all because of better depth. Guys finally figured it out.

Do you think the taxi squad itself might be the motivator? Normal seasons with only 23 players on the squad if you sit for a few, you'll get another chance quite quickly or you are sent down and get some game time. With the taxi squad you are just doing nothing, you've got to prove yourself during practice constantly to get back into the main squad and have no game time what so ever. Could it be that Khaira knew that he had to look at himself, go and prove himself once more and has done so?

It must be, at least it is for the Oilers. If you look at the guys that spent time on it, they all come out looking pretty good and extremely motivated. Chiasson spent time on it and since coming back he's been good. 7 pts in 16 games. He's got 2 goals on the PP, 2 5 on 5. 3 pts from the PP, 4 5 on 5. For a 4th liner, that is great production. Khaira, since coming back has been great. Jones granted in limited minutes has look good. Bouchard has looked good.
