I'm excited to see how the Oilers visually look against Vancouver now compare to the first two games of the season. I think the Oilers are better than they were and better than the Canucks, but I don't know. I hope to be entertained.

I feel like this has "trap game" written all over it. Hopefully the boys come out with some jump.

I have been noticing a lot of positives in this team as of late, but due to past trauma I will not believe they are a team moving forward in the right direction until I see a bigger sample size. If they can go another 20 games of playing .600 hockey with complete games for the most part then I will drink the kool aid.

Until then I will keep waiting for turd sandwiches. Hope tonight is not a big deuce.

The team is coming off a couple of big emotional wins and playing a minnow who they struggled with to start the season. These two games are a big barometer. Win them both and we're in a good position. Falter here and we're back in the thick of things.

With 4 point games every night, I have a feeling we’ll be right in the thick of things for a couple months yet, regardless of the MustTM surrounding these Canuck games

Yep - it doesn't take long to turn up or down if you go on a bit of a streak. But it is pretty important to take as many of the gimme points as you can, and Vancouver and Ottawa are looking like the minnows. We've done a nice job picking up points against the Sens so far, but we're 1-1 against the Canucks. We don't want to drop one or two more here if it can be avoided.

I like the way the team is playing and feel confident they will win. They haven't seem to look down on any teams like past teams would. They have won games in different ways playing shut down hockey or scoring at will. They have won games where McD and Leon weren't at their best and other guys picked up the slack. They have even won games where all the goals came from the defense. They have 2 goalies right now who are playing well which allows both of them to be rested and keeps them focused because they know if one of them has an off night, the other guy could take away starts.

The Canucks are not a deep team, their GM made some mistakes in the offseason letting some guys walk and it's pretty apparently just how much Markstrom covered up for them.

Ugh, 11pm start again :(
Will try to catch the first, but that'll be it for me.

Here's hoping we continue playing as we have the past few games and smack down another team that we should really beat. Canucks are on a bit of a slump lately, and we all know that Oilers teams of the past were great slump busters. Time to show that this team is different.

Yeah I've been liking the east coast games that start at 5pm MST. I finish dinner and get downstairs just in time for the puck drop. Kids get to watch the whole before bedtime.

Canucks are a desperate team, decent goaltending and usually put in a good effort.
No easy games in the Canadian Division, even Ottawa can take a win away from you if you aren't bringing your A-Effort... These two games will be a test of Oilers focus and attention.. play dopey and it'll be a struggle, I know 97 and 29 will bring it rest of the team needs to follow their lead.. as always..

I would prefer to see Nygard out there - and not just because I picked Patrick Russell to score last/never. That said, it is always funny to see Russell get one game closer to passing JF Jacques marks for offensive ineptitude.

You forget that JF Jacques not only went 50 plus games without a goal; he went that long without a point. Russell's six assists already give him a huge edge in scoring.

The Toby Rieder cup could be decided tonight.

Prediction. McD double shifts on the 4th line and sets up P.Russell for a wide open net. Russell proceeds to put it off the post/crossbar. NO ONE CAN DEFEAT THE CHAMP!!

Fair enough! That's pretty impressive for Jacques...you'd think something would have glanced off his shinpad at some point at least...he even got the push from Pat Quinn on to the top line for a few games (although I suppose that came later, after he'd broken the goose egg).

Seriously what did Nygaard do to get the ire of our coach? Even when he’s not scoring his speed is noticeable like Haas. He had a great camp too.

Maybe Tippett asked him if he was "Joakim on sunshine" and he didn't laugh?

The better question is what did Russell ever do to get the kind of love that Tippett has lavished on him over the last year and a half? The guy's been on the NHL roster for most of that time, and will have played in 47 games in that time after tonight. Considering how little he accomplishes when he's on the ice, and the fact he was -11 last year, I don't understand him keep getting at bats.

Okay, so the guy works really hard in practice, but this isn't Rudy. And in Rudy, the coach didn't put him in 50 times in games that really mattered...

I concur.. he's got speed and skill similar to Ennis, if a bit less gritty.. he's been elf on a shelf for quite awhile now.. Tippet may want a little more beef for the 4th line to handle down low puck possession..

Maybe back in Denmark.

Seriously though, the Canucks are a fast team. How you put PRuss in over Nygard is over my head.

While you never like to see someone get injured, I am excited to see Jones step in and get an opportunity here. I don't think that he should have sat for as many games as he did. Let's be honest, the bottom of the Oilers defence is not some sort of impenetrable force, I would have liked to see Tippett rotate him back in sooner.

Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games
