Oilers using the counterattack effectively. Leafs being very aggressive.

I think he played his best period of the season, at least effort wise. Seems to be a bit snakebitten but as long as he is engaged the team is better off.

Joined half way through the first. Bit of a chess match, but it looks like Toronto is on their heels. We are making short smart plays, but that Leaf blue line is a tough place to carry the puck over. Might need some dump and chase and crush to get in there.

Here is my pregame comment;

PlusOne wrote on Fri, 22 January 2021 15:14

That would be former Regina Pats Captain Adam Brooks.

While he was a decent leader here and put up good stats there is a reason he was drafted in the fourth round.
He is not a big guy and while he has a decent skill set there isnt much he does exceptionally well. Without having that elite skill anywhere his high scoring in junior wasnt likely to translate to the NHL. I always thought his skating would need major improvements to play center, wondered if he would move to wing in the pros.
I took a lot of crap from Pats/Leafs fans around here when I claimed that in his draft +1 year but so far it seems about right.

All of that means you can expect him to get his first NHL goal tonight.

I would be more proud of that prediction if the result was ever actually in doubt

The Oil PP looks like runny crap again. So much for Neal being an improvement over Chiasson on the first unit.

Watching the leafs PP, the puck movement is quick and crisp. The Oilers seem to move it real slow and sloppy.

And the whole drop back to McDavid at their own blue line to gain the zone isn’t working. Adapt.

Only uptick I saw so far was he left the front of the net twice, won a puck battle and kept the PP going. That was nice to see. Too many times when the puck goes to the corner the Oilers start the retreat waiting for the clear/reload of the attack.
