I like this one as well. Seems like some good moves by Holland. The team is better today than yesterday

sweeet. Added a couple wingers that can do more than just blindly throw pucks to where they guess somoene might be.

Good move. Decent, savvy player. Cheap cost.
Another trade that moves bottom 6 forwards down, and out of the top 6.. thats another win.

I can officially turn off the entry draft after pick 31.
Athanasiou McDavid Ennis
Nuge Draisaitl Yams
Potentially awesome. It was tough watching McDavid carry Chaisson and Gagner last night and yet he somehow got a goal and an assist.
Button doesn't think AA can play with McDavid? Besides Lucic who was just too slow with and without the puck, pretty much everyone enjoys success on the top line. Having some real talent on that line is very intriguing.

This is exactly how I feel. They havent lost anything of short term worth and have bumped a bunch of guys down the roster and some likely down to the minors.
Half of our forwards were playing at least a spot too high and this should make a big difference.

Pretty great deadline. I don't remember the last time we have been big buyers. Probably 2006.
This is all depth, and it just makes us better. Moves guys like Khaira and Russell off of the roster once Kassian and healthy bodies return.
I like that we have added another puckmover on defense rather than some stay at home guy. I don't think you can have too many puck movers.
And we still have a 1st rounder and Puljuljarvi to bolster up in the summer.
It's been a good day. My body is ready for playoffs.

Going to be interesting when Kass and Neal are back. Benson obviously going back down, but who else is going down? Yams and Haas are waiver exempt and I can't see Yams going down. Would like to see JJ go down myself. Not sure if that is possible after trade deadline day though

So this is what it's like to watch a competent GM at work. How refreshing after the disaster that was Chia's tenure.

2016/2017 - This Kool-Aid is starting to taste like juice.

Forgot about Kassian and Neal. I wonder how serious Neal's injury really is? We are a much deeper team than I have ever remembered. 2006? No Pronger, but we have a McDrai!

Imagine you're James Neal, playing on the first line with McDavid before you get injured. Now penciled on the 4th line!
Overall a decent deadline. Nitpicking but we may regret sending two 2nd rounders out with Gags. Decent players go in the 2nd and we will be on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.

Fresh Neal for playoffs (playoffs???) could be a really good thing. Hopefully we can live without him, with the added benefit of saving that 3rd round pick. Definitely can't rush back an older guy with a problematic ankle injury :(

The entire fourth line from last night could very easily be scratched and it would make no difference to the team. Benson looks like more of a player than Patrick Russell, and Haas and Khaira show flashes but they produce next to nothing.
Athanasiou/McDavid/Ennis
Nugent-Hopkins/Draisaitl/Yamamoto
Neal/Sheahan/Kassian
Archibald/Haas or Khaira/Benson
x - Nygard and Haas or Khaira
That actually looks surprisingly like an NHL forwards corps...

The oilers could have played with three lines last night and we wouldn’t have noticed the difference.

I forgot Chiasson entirely.
A) That contract already looks awful
B) we may actually have a little depth when real NHL players struggle to get a permanent spot in the lineup.

Adam!? Are... do... do I sense a bit of optimism in your post!?
Personally, I see the forward group as this;
Athanasiou/McDavid/Kassian
Nugent-Hopkins/Draisaitl/Yamamoto
Archibald/Sheahan/Ennis
Neal/Haas/Chiasson
Khaira/PRuss
And not to be forgotten;
Klefbom/Larsson
Bear/Nurse
Green/Benning
Jones
Smith
Koskinen

Nah, the goaltending isn't good enough to warrant optimism and they didn't go get Robin Lehner (btw, the Knights now have a pretty solid 1-2 punch...)
Your turn to forget people - namely Nygard and Kris Russell.
I don't think there's many on that list they're able to demote again now should we actually get fully healthy. Here's hoping that carrying extra roster players at year end doesn't hurt us on the cap at all...

Ugh. That sucks for him. I thought he'd showed nicely in the short time he was here.
Here's the window for Athanasiou. Hopefully he can gel pretty quickly. I'd like to see him simplify a little. He's trying to beat guys one-on-one lots, which hasn't been working as well so far. Maybe if he can find a way to build a little confidence it's more likely to start working.

Let's look at the trade deadline pickups...
Mike Green - covid opted out
Tyler Ennis - out, injured with broken leg
Andreas Athanasiou - ...
Ken Holland better hire a priest or witchdoctor to protect AA.

And Green didn't just opt out, but also got a knee injury in his second game after arrival...
I suppose that at least it only puts us back to the position we were before the trades, as opposed to if they weren't hear and we had the same injuries to others...then we're digging in to our AHL roster.

Yeah, I liked what Ennis was bringing. I'd definitely be looking to re-sign him this off-season.
I really don't know what to make with Athanasiou. There are times when he is skating so fast and leading a rush, I initially mistake him for McDavid (then he'll get pokechecked and lose the puck and I realize it is not). There is skill there, I think. There is definitely speed. But I haven't seen him find chemistry with anyone he has played with. He kind of just feels like a square peg on every line he has been a part of. It would be great to see him find some success in this opportunity, but I find myself with doubts about where he fits in with this team. Would Athanasiou and Puljujarvi be complimentary players?
