To get Katz to come out of his bunker, actually be present and even SPEAK, this is a big day.

Expect something like this to come out of his pie hole.
"I know this will almost certainly be the 13th time in the last 14 years that we miss the playoffs, but the reality is that this is only year 14 of the rebuild that started when we drafted Sam Gag....errrr ahhh Taylo.....ahhh...Nugen.....Yaku....Drais.....McDavid. The good news if you can call it that, is that other teams that committed to fundamental rebuilds went through the same kind of droughts over the same kind of time frames (minus a decade or so). This doesn't make it fun for anyone; it just means we have to stay the course. Now with Ken Holland on board we are primed to follow the DETROIT MODEL and we have so many promising young prospects like Nilsson, Stortini and Schremp. Also look at our CORE! The CORE will deliver a Stanley Cup because Kev....I mean Ken knows a thing or two about winning.

I will send a bottle of wine to the reporter that asks an awkward question. Doubt my wine collection (which consists of 8 bottles of wine) will shrink today.
2015/2016 - This Kool-Aid tastes like McDavid flavoured Drain-O.
2016/2017 - This Kool-Aid is starting to taste like juice.
2017/2018 - I'm drinking this Kool-Aid, in hopes that it's Drain-O.
2018/2019 - Another round of Drain-O, good sir!

If the first words out of Katz's mouth are "I'd like to start off by announcing that by 'mutual consent', the following people are no longer employed by the Edmonton Oilers orgainization...." I may start to give a @$@$ about what he says.

You can almost see the Oilers organization talking to the media ahead of time...

And don't forget, Holland is supposed to be reporting to this guy now. Hopefully, Ken just nods at whatever Bobby says then promptly ignores it in doing his job.

So Holland is now POHO as well as GM. While its intriguing that Holland's position is actually larger in scope, it will mean nothing unless he starts cleaning house.
Katz has basically said nothing else of substance aside from noting that Ken will be working with Nicholson. If you're listening to your fans, why are the OBC still employed? Also, if Holland has "full autonomy", why is he reporting to Bobby Burgers? Shouldn't he be accountable only to you, Katzy boy?

Any hope I had of Katz seeing the error in his ways, has died completely. He looks like he's barely hanging on to life, not like someone who's can right wrongs.

Some notes:
- Holland and Bob go way back.
- He informed Hitchcock that he won't be back. I was unclear if that also meant the assistants.
- Hasn't talked to Keith Gretzky but said he wants to keep him in the organization.
- Wants to make playoffs this upcoming year.
- Wants to bring stability. Repeated that many times.
- Believes in over-ripening players in the minors.
- Kind of defended his Detroit cap problem as they were the last team in the cap era to miss the playoffs. Brought an 80 million dollar payroll down to below 40 million in the first year of the cap.
- He's quite chatty with every question.
- Katz and Nicholson didn't really say anything of note. We want to win and show that to our fans and that's why we brought in Ken. We have a core we made mistakes yada yada yada.
- Believes analytics is a tool but doesn't believe it makes your decision.
- No mention at all of Lowe or Howson or MacTavish.

Gregor tried, in his roundabout way, to ask if OBCs were getting fired but DK and Nicholson had clearly already planned for that. Nicholson interrupts and says "no no we changed some scouts and the goalie coach so there's no need to fire Kevin."

I really wish that Gregor had been a little more courageous in the way he phrased the question. He basically pointed out that there were lots of things that have changed - coaches, players - but the team was consistently bad, so is there some other changes in management needed...
The way he said it made it very easy to ignore that he was asking about Lowe, MacTavish, Howson, etc. They just dismissed it as - look, we'll look at the organization and we may make some changes, but we haven't decided. They can now fire Sutter and say they addressed that, because Gregor wasn't specific.
I mean, good on him for trying to ask SOMETHING about that, but still, you do wonder why these guys are all so afraid of the Oilers management and save their hard-hitting questions for 20-year old Russian players.

Just getting caught up here. Bob starts off by confirming that the process with Holland just started a few days ago, and that it went very quickly because of their past relationship. Same old, same old.
Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

I think Katz is only there because renewals are slowing and general fan reaction to everything has been poor. They wanted to show that the owner cares too, after years of disappearance.
Seeing him up there, hearing him speak with that slow raspy voice...I think that the Oilers image is better served without him showing up to these things. He is going to be a story of his own today, and it won't be because of what he said.

First trade: Lucic and Sekera to DET for Abdelkader, Neilsen, and Helm. Oddly this probably makes the Oilers better.

I assume this bacteria just jumped up his nose on its own while he was doing nothing that could cause damage to it and set the stage for infections to spread.
Shannon is funny. He must really want to get inside the group and get a job like Bobby Burgers. He's all in on the defending the OBC, Nicholson and Katz.

John Shannon is either on the oiler payroll or wants very badly to be. He is the team's biggest booster not named Bob Stauffer.

Apparently Katz is of ill health is battling a drug resistant nasal condition. He's had 2 of the 3 required surgeries which explains the concave nose.
I made fun of his looks on Twitter, I feel bad and deleted them. Shame on me.
That all said, he didn't sound prepared and took complete responsibility of the team which is right of him to do but what followed was a whole lot of nothing.
Holland still has to move away from the Detroit org and realize he is with the Oilers now. I'm hopeful he makes some solid moves and put this team forward. However the entire upper tier of management is the same, and Nicholson didn't even interview the guy so he played it safe and got someone from the OBC of Hockey Canada.
My expectations about this team remain low.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.

Low expectations are the key to enjoying Oilers hockey.
You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

I made fun of his looks on Twitter, I feel bad and deleted them. Shame on me.

You don't have to be happy with how things have gone for the Oilers during his time as owner but making fun of a person looks is pretty low class in my opinion. It's disappointing that some Oilers fans felt compelled to do that.

Out of respect for Daryl I have deleted previous tweets.
If you continue to ride your high horse like you knew anything before John Shannon’s tweet and come at me I will block you.
Get well Daryl. All the best.

Well said.
He had a combination of extra tanned skin, new veneers, and a “new” nose. It was shocking to begin with, I honestly thought people had photoshopped the pictures. I thought you mixed Katz & Kirk Douglas, not even kidding.

I think what makes it believable is also the fact that he’s very wealthy, middle aged, and plastic surgery mistakes are not uncommon. Serves me right for assuming but this franchise is anything but transparent.

The Oilers definitely could have avoided a whole lot of talk on this by letting it be known ahead of this appearance what was happening with their owner. It was always going to be shocking, and he's not exactly a normal dude, so it wasn't out of the realm of possibility that he'd decided to make some bad decisions...
