Smytty inspired point. Can't blame Smyth for Koskinen getting beat 4 times out of 4 in the SO hehe.

Fun game.
Drai played fantastic. One of his best overall games of the year.
I am off to see the Preds play in Winnipeg on Friday, should be a good one.

Pretty clear that the next GM needs to get some damn wingers. We really should be able to have 2 scoring lines. Maybe there is still some mentality of this team to sit back and wait for McDavid to do stuff too when he's in the lineup, but need the coach to break that. To be fair though, that is impossible to do without a reasonably balanced lineup that doesn't force the coach to play McDavid a million minutes a night.

3 out of possible 4 points without McDavid. Big game in Toronto on Wednesday.

Played a pretty solid game against a really good team. Koski was great Drai really stepped up in McDavid's absence. PK pretty darned good! ( not Suban )

This happened because Adam hated on Smyth.

Haven't liked Koskinen in the shootout the last 2 times, but he was great otherwise. Without him, this game was over early. Good game, but I don't think Nashville was on tonight. I'll take the point and move on.

A lot of iron. A lot of flailing on his ass. But he got them to OT with some great saves and was key on the penalty kill.
Yeah the shootout is really making me uneasy too.

Smart coach would have switched him with the backup after he got lucky on the first 2 penalty shots against

Well, that was one more point than I thought they'd get out of Nashville. Not a terrible result.
15-20 games ago, I was pretty critical of LD and some of the characteristics of his game. Those by and large seem to be gone right now....hopefully to stay. It just makes him so much better.
Hopefully Connor has a burr up his arse and takes it out on the Leafs.

Would be as good a game as any to see Sittler's record fall.

The Oilers are going to make the playoffs. Gagner and Sekera are going to be instrumental.

If the Oilers farm team in Bakersfield can pump out 17 straight wins, why not Edmonton?

Yeah he is doing a great job. I think the more frustrating thing was the few years prior to this, Gerry Fleming was the head coach and they missed the playoffs 3 out of the 4 years in the AHL. Maybe it could have been the lack of draft depth the Oilers have accumulated but the farm team but Todd Nelson made the playoffs every single year he was a head coach for the Oilers farm team.
Fleming took over at a critical time, the year Oilers drafted McDavid and you would hope when he is in his prime when some of these guys marinating in the AHL under good development.
The fact that the lack of development at the AHL level has happened under Nicholson and all the rest of the idiots should be enough for them to have them all turfed.

I watched that game back in the day. Saw Gags with his big night too. So we need Connor to score 7, Gagner to assist on all of them, Drai to pot 3 with 3 assists from Connor and then Connor to score in overtime to make it an argument as to whether the record stands or not.
11-10 Oilers.

Koskinen's glove looks super weak. He has been scouted and exploited worse than Jones five hole in SJ. Lets hope he can develop. Rieder is awful. Great game by Drai and nice to see gags get one in the SO. Looking forward to the TO game.

Koskinen looked bad in the shootout. Beat cleanly on every shot. Looked awkward covering the last two shooters - came out a long way but just didn't seem to have the angle covered at all. I hope he can adapt, but I don't expect a lot of development from him - he's 30 years old.
Hitchcock continues to make some odd decisions. Rieder has zero goals and less than zero confidence, so why is he in the top three people you put out in OT? Maybe go 29/93 and try to end it early?
Also - why is Nurse still getting the PP1 minutes? Can Klefbom not yet handle the minutes? I think 77 is pretty clearly the better player. Ditto start of OT - I'd prefer Klefbom's passing ability to Nurse's skating ability there.

Two guys that I will not miss are Toby Rieder and M. Benning.
Why was Rieder out in OT, the guy is brutal in both ends of the ice.. maybe the coach is in lose for Hughes mode?

He was having a pretty good game. Unless they were going to load up the first line with Drai & Nuge, he was as good an option as any last night.
