Bettman point!!

Drai looked really good tonight.
Nuge was huge.
Kassian looks rejuvenated.
Gagner showed he still has some game.
Cave looked noticeable in a good way.
Koski was solid, scored on rebounds which D could have helped on.
Larsson goal!
Sek with a nice 1st game back.

Lucic. Brodz. Toby. Sigh.

Chiasson should be shamed for missing a chance I could have put in.

I would’ve fanned on that shot too, but I don’t get paid to score goals.

Lucic makes 11 times as much as Chaisson. And he can't even get in a position to be able to miss an open net.

We selling yet? Or does Bobby Nicks still insist we are right there in the mix because we managed to play 1 period tonight against a team on their 2nd of B2B?

Nice to see that Gagner still has good wheels and smarts. An upgrade over the guy they traded for him. Good move by Gretzky to bring him back.

I think if we see this kind of a jam by the other 3 lines consistently there would be more W’s. Maybe everyone is intimidated by McDavid and tonight they just went out and played?

Also only 6 points out of a playoff spot with the Wild loss. I know all of the teams they have to leapfrog but I think if they keep their eyes on just the 6 points, things won’t seem so doom and gloom.

Funny what a big save here and there can do for your team as well.

I got bored and tuned out after the second. Moral loss, missed the last 30 seconds and OT, the only exciting part of that game.

The first 40 mins was some of the most boring hockey I had ever watched.

I did think that Draisaitl played a very good first 40 and that was encouraging. Larsson looked bad. Russell looked bad. Sekera looked good, especially for his first game back.

We can pair it with a nice Pats game, although they're not making the playoffs either. Moose Jaw isn't far away.

Connor McDavid did not participate in the Wednesday morning skate.

Same basic lines and D combinations that were defeated by Arizona Tuesday evening.

They played well in the last few minutes and tied it up in the final seconds, definitely something to build on.

Connor McDavid did not participate in the Wednesday morning skate.

Same basic lines and D combinations that were defeated by Arizona Tuesday evening.

Just keep Lucic out of the top 6, and the chances go up exponentially. I think Hitch beat that dead horse for 2 periods last night. Lucic on the 1st line while players who might be challenged offensively but can keep up and are more than a pylon in the defensive zone languish down in the lineup. $6 million in cap for what in a year or two will be a marginal NHLer, whose services can today be provided by probably an $800,000 player.

But he had FOUR goals in January! Corner turned!!!

Still can't believe he's making that kind of dough when I see him half heartedly chugging around out there looking forward to the upcoming line change. He is the biggest part of the Chiarelli legacy in Edmonton. The gift that just keeps on giving.

I listened to the third period, moral victory?

I got bored and tuned out after the second. Moral loss, missed the last 30 seconds and OT, the only exciting part of that game.

The first 40 mins was some of the most boring hockey I had ever watched.

I did think that Draisaitl played a very good first 40 and that was encouraging. Larsson looked bad. Russell looked bad. Sekera looked good, especially for his first game back.

Why so doom and gloom, my friend? We’re only a mere 6 points back right now.

PlusOne is not invited to our Oilers Playoff Party!

If the Oilers make the playoffs I will host the playoff party and supply the beer

Hurrah!!! Man, that will be some bash...

(Other than the fact it's hosted in Regina)

(And the fact the Oilers aren't going to make it)

7 hour drive from Calgary to Regina for free Pilsner (it's Saskatchewan) and Burgers done Bobby Nick's style?

In.

#MeToo

We can pair it with a nice Pats game, although they're not making the playoffs either. Moose Jaw isn't far away.

I keep hearing about these underground tunnels in Moose Jaw, make a day out of it.

And the spa! ... Uhm they have salt pools, works wonders on a hangover. The tunnels are pretty cool too. It’s all around an alright town. The product at the local OJ’s was always fine when there for tournaments too.

Yup, the spa and Capone's tunnels were quite good, unexpected. I expected a bigger casino though.....although I was there at least 10 years ago and they might have made it bigger.

I think that they should play stolarz so he doesn't become a UFA. If he doesn't get 10 more games he's out. Oilers need to give up on playoffs. Even yesterday they were talking about knowing in the next 3 games. So stuck on stupid.

They were saying before the most recent 3 game road trip that they would know coming out of it, yet here we are, a game passed that even and they’re only 6 points out!

Koskinen gets the start against NYI tomorrow, already reported today.

Well, trading Talbot becomes pretty meaningless if he does...

Although if they didn't trade Talbot, they couldn't have unburied Spooner, so they wouldn't have been able to acquire Sam Gagner, so maybe people should say it was Talbot for Stolarz, Sekera and Gagner - and if so, then maybe it was all worth it!

I will say, if they were to go on a run and then Koskinen gets hurt or falls flat, then that Talbot trade will look really bad...especially if they really have no plans at all for Stolarz.

Hey it’s all good, they’ll put in a claim for McKenna and treat it as a Talbot for McKenna, Sekera, Gagner and Stolarz!

Talbot was gone at end of the season. Maybe one could argue that the Oilers should/could have gotten more for him (which I don't think is true, given his performance), but that's a different argument altogether.

So again, I ask who cares if Stolarz goes UFA? If he's the backup the Oilers want, he's still going to be less than $1.5 million (on the high end). Play him as many games as necessary to see how he performs as a backup this season but outside of that there is no reason to play him.

My perspective is that there were other ways of clearing cap space, so there was not NEED to trade Talbot.

Philly gave up a guy who was going to be UFA at the end of the year for them for sure - so virtually nothing - but they wanted him as a safety net for Hart, so I think it would have been reasonable to think you could have gotten a draft pick instead (or likely as well).

If Stolarz becomes a UFA, then it's another asset squandered for nothing, despite the fact that he was the better goalie the team had since Christmas and the organization has repeatedly said they still plan to make the playoffs this year. It signalled a white flag to deal him, especially in a situation where the team got virtually nothing for him.

I think the only benefit the team really gets from trading Talbot is that it saves Katz a few bucks, and I for one don't give a hoot about saving him money...

I full heartedly agree on this.

Talbot wasn’t going to be back. Oilers aren’t making the playoffs (unless a miracle occurs and we all head to PlusOne’s place in Regina for an OPP or OWS (whatever we wanna call it).

They cleared a good amount of cap for this season allowing an easy move for getting Sek up while bringing in a backup that is young in goalie terms, cheap and someone they could resign cheap, even if he doesn’t get the 10 games in.

Ufa you have less bargaining power. Why not keep it a team decision and have another asset? Do you really think koski can carry the mail?

Don’t think you’ll find many (perhaps any) around here that think Koskinen can. Unless they (Oilers Management) think that one of the AHL boys are ready for backup duties and to push Koskinen (I’d argue this view would be idiotic) or they are confident they can bring in a UFA on a cheap deal to be the backup and push Koskinen, then not giving Stolarz the 10 games of 30+ minutes is a complete poopshow of asset management. Worst case they get him the time to see what they have in him and don’t qualify him. Best case? They like what they see and they get him under team control as an RFA.

All indications point to him showing he can play though he’s had injury concerns. Reading comments from Flyer’s fans re: Stolarz, he looked ready for full time NHL time (when/if healthy) and could be Hart’s backup.

Knowing the Oilers, they’ll likely not give him the time and then sign him to an (overpriced) extension prior to the draft anyway thereby foregoing any “WE LOST HIM TO UFA” talk.

A poop leopard can’t change it’s spots.

Another factor could be that Stolarz does have arbitration rights this summer, according to copper and blue and cap friendly.

And his numbers aren't anything special, so I really can't see arbitration being a big issue for the Oilers with him.

The reality is the Oilers turned a Vezina candidate into an AHL goalie and will turn that AHl goalie into no return this offseason. And then they’ll make the guy that made that trade the GM for the next 3 years.

Oilers asset management is terrible. Has been for awhile, don’t see the end in sight with the current regime and OBC still around (even though the CEO and interim POHO says differently)

That said. Arbitration shouldn’t scare them away from playing Stolarz 30+ minutes in 10 games
