Spooner to Van for Sam Gagner.

Gotta give Ol’Keith some credit. We are gaining cap space.

Agreed. and while he's not what he used to be, he's at least a player people like.

Will be interesting to see him and Kassian on the same line... *collar tug*

So is this just so we can fit Sekera in again or is there a bigger fish they are trying to pry at the deadline? Where do the Oilers sit now?

In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

Basically the same cap hit. Spooner 3.1M after nyr retention, Gagner 3.15M, both signed next year.

I'll take it, cause it's Samwise vs that bum Spooner.

If Gagner can get 8 points a game things are suddenly looking pretty good for the Oil!

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Didn’t realize 89 hit the lottery. Oh well. I own a Gagner jersey. That’s something.

I wonder if he and Brodziak will reminisce about the old days with Hemsky, Roloson, Torres, and Staios on the team. Hard to believe they played on the team that long ago now.

Heck, they also player with guys like Reasoner and Moreau. Honestly, I kind of miss all those guys. I think they all wanted to win more than most of the guys that play on the team now.

I wonder if Pool Party is looking at Sam in the locker room and thinking - this is what being developed by the Oilers looks like...

The only reason I can see for making this deal is to try Gagner in Edmonton again. Don't see him going to Bakersfield.

I hope fans keep their expectations in check. Gagner went unclaimed through waivers this year and has been playing in the minors. He's not the player he was when he left.

He sure won't be someone to drive a line. I'm hoping he can finish off chances, either with McDavid or RNH driving a line.

He doesn't have the best wheels, but the hands seem okay. If he had time and space, I'm hoping he can be effective.

Another "warm body" trade...and I'm not even mad this time! I'd take a flyer on a butter soft Gags over Spooner any day of the week - and TWICE on Sundays!

This is literally the best outcome you could hope for from the Spooner fiasco. I suggested this move about a month ago when Spooner hit waivers, so I'm happy.

I'm actually surprised Vancouver made this move. Perhaps they feel Oilers are far enough in the rearview mirror at this point.

Anyways, Gagner has some issues, but what he brings is something the Oilers can use. His numbers suggest there is still offense and he has always produced on the power play. I'd like to see Draisaitl / McDavid / Gagner for a few games and see if anything clicks.

Wash in salary and term and an AHL asset for an NHL one. Plus someone who has always been popular with the fanbase and actually has people feeling happy about an Oilers trade, which is strange and wonderful.

Also gives them a right hand option in the faceoff circle. Agreed that it’s the best outcome re: Spooner. Cool to see Sam embrace coming back here with his twitter profile pic update so soon after the deal broke. Hopefully can do what we’ve been lacking and chip in some secondary scoring.

Can’t be worse than Spooner, right?

Don't expect much out of an AHL Gagner, never had good wheels, don't really understand this move at all.
Spooner 27, Gagner 29

Gagner is 29!? That can’t be right.

By the way I'm hoping Gagner lights it up .. just realizing that its a very low probability of happening.

Oh for sure, with you on this. Ha... who scores first, Gagner, Rieder or Stolarz?!

Hmmm.. its Gagner ...but I'm picking Stolarz over freaking Toby Reider
Reider's hands are worse than stone.. he's got freaking re-bar in there..

Hahaha couldn’t have said it better myself. Little kind boggling when the kid has scored at a pretty good clip for someone relied upon for secondary scoring, till this year.

For whatever reason Spooner was pretty useless while an Oiler so I have no problem with them bringing Sam back. Hope he knocks it out of the park. ( Exceeds expectations which appear to be pretty low ) Maybe this redemption move will get the curse off our backs once and for all.

I had just about given up all hope.

Samwise Gagner will help Frodo McDavid carry thy Puck of Power to the net and destroy the nasty orcses thwarting the team from reaching the almighty playoffs and thusly thy Stanley cup.

I hope Samwise scores 15 or more in the next 25 games and helps McDavid win the Art Ross.

Bye Spoon er!

At the very least this should make the pp better. Gagner will be the best player on the 2nd unit, or is a decent RH option in the first unit. I dont have huge expectations of Gagner lighting it up at 5x5, but I think this is, unequivocally, a good move. And how many times have we been able to say that?

I am so happy to have Gags back in blue & orange (or orange & blue?). Hopefully he gets a chance on McDavid and Draisatl line on the wing.

If nothing else Samwise is at least happy to be here.

I have no problem with this trade for the simple fact that whether it's Spooner or Gagner the money for next year was spent. Trading for Spoomer was stupid but it happened. Spooner to me was useless, there was no future for him on the team so might as well roll the dice and maybe you get lucky with Gagner. I doubt it but who knows. No one was good giving you anything for Spooner. Not even a pick.

Seemed like Spooner didn't want to be an Oiler. Gagner should be able to play better than him without even trying that hard.
