So long and thanks for all the fish, dadbot. I have no doubt he'll regain his form and really help the kid from Sherwood Park in Philly.

The trade is one for one. I guess that's just the price you have to pay.
Good thing we can now say that the goalie box for next year has been checked!

Next we'll find out Cam insulted Kari Takko somehow and thus the OBC felt he needed to move on.

The team really didn't figure out that they could clear cap room by demoting two crappy players. Good lord.
I guess it was nice of us to bolster Philly's playoff chances.

Bye Cam. His performance hasn't been good, but as far as personalities go I really liked him. Just seemed like a nice dude.

This team is just degrading every month. When is the last time the Oilers got the better player in a deal? Who is confident in next year's Stolarz Koskininen tandem.

Fu9king hell. Can any of you honestly raise a hand and say Talbot had anything more then back up value please do so now. It amazes me the amount of effort some of you put into sh1tt!ng on this team, its truly astonishing.
This forum has turned into a pessimistic cesspool of bitching and whining about the same topics consistently.

I know, you're such a force of positivity for this team. Congratulations on being an enabler. You're a real hero here.

For now :)
He needs to play 30+ mins in 10 more games for us to keep him as an RFA. Definitely should make sure we do that. Not just for RFA status, but for Hughes/Kakko too.
It really is good that we got a goalie back for Talbot though. Don't want to screw up the Condors by having to call up anyone there.

The new guy is sure putting his stamp on the team. What's his name again?
I kind of hope the Oilers will have to dress a junior back up tomorrow.

Mark Spector breathlessly praising Keith for this trade. They got a young guy! He's under team control next year! Clear win!!!!
The Oilers traded a proven goaltender and the better goalie on the team over the last two months for a guy with 19 career NHL games and mediocre AHL stats. That is not a clear win. It's still 50/50 whether Stolarz is even in the organization a year from now.

And hold on for Talbot for nothing? No win. This team is garbage. Keep him you complain. Trade him for an asset and you complain.
You think 33 was going to sign here in the offseason for < 2M. He wanted out. See ya. A lateral move at worst.

I believe there was value for a guy who's only a couple seasons removed from a Vezina calibre season.
And I don't believe there's much value in a 25 year old with pedestrian AHL stats...
So I think we could have got something of value but instead we traded for something that will eventually be walked away from at zero value....net loss Oilers.

if we traded for a player that was a couple of years removed from an award-winning season, that was a backup/ role player before that and as sucked the past 2 years and we gave up something of value for that player you be ok with that? I highly doubt it, not sure why anyone would give up much of anything for Talbot. To me, this is like the Pat Maroon trade, where people here, for reason unknown to me thought he had value.
I see this deal and similar to the Strome/Spooner deal, but where we get the younger unimpressive guy and not the older underperforming one.

After signing Koskinen the only way Talbot could have signed with Oilers was to take a huge cut in pay and that wasn't about to happen. A pretty big salary dump and and bringing in what is essentially a back up. ( that hasn't proven he isn't capable of doing the job yet ) Not sure what people think they could have gotten for Talbot but the way I see it he was an expiring contract that pooped the bed too many times in the last year and a half and really didn't have the big trade value some people think he did. Paint the devil on the wall before the guy has even put on an Oiler sweater! Welcome to Edmonton Stolarz and enjoy the heat under the magnifying glass of the Oiler rabid. Bet Talbot is jumping for joy right now and I wish him well in Philly. Playoffs are not in the cards in Edmonton anyway.

We’ve been hearing for awhile that there has been no market and then a very small market for Talbot.
Keith/Scott/Bob traded a guy we’d lose for nothing, he wasn’t going to be resigned. In the trade they got a guy that will be under team control and is still relatively young in goalie terms.
They did what we wanted/expected. Trade guys on expiring contracts. Perhaps they didn’t get the value that some of us believe they should have but 1) we’re not NHL execs or anywhere near the pulse and 2) we often tend to have some mighty large Oiler blinders on.
The hysterical thing is one-for-one.
I look at this one as a good deal for the team. I know you don’t. We’re not making playoffs. We cut salary. We have a younger goalie to pair with Koskinen.
Flyers fans, from what I’ve read, had been excited to have Hart and Stolarz as their 1-2 as apparently the games he’s played this year his team left him out to Oiler.
Good luck Talbot. I had been calling it for a few weeks and glad to see it come true, enjoy mentoring your close friend.

This is not so bad guys. Talbot was great that one year. He was Glen Sather's last gift to Edmonton. Played all his good games in one season! What was it like 70 some games? He was leaving anyway as most have said. Signing Kosco was the writing on the wall. There are worse things that have happened to us. I hope him and Sherwood Park boy finally solve Philly's endless goaltender problems! That place is a goalie graveyard!

I assume they'll screw it up.
Question though: since the Flyers are now trying to make the playoffs (because games can be won - who knew) wouldn't this be an asset they'd now send away for almost nothing rather than lose him as a free agent at year end? Couldn't the Oilers turn the screws a little just once? What did they have to lose? Sending two crappy defensemen to the A?
I can't wait until loge and box owners who are still on the fence about renewing get to see this guy play half the games.

Does he have the power to not play for the Oilers while also playing for the Oilers?
The first (or 2nd or 3rd if we're lucky) shot stuff is just the Oilers way. Every Oilers goalie for years now has joined the habit along with the bum team that can never be ready for a game and allows grade A chances right off the bat.

Seeing 10 more needed from most reports.
Easy enough. He is probably equal to Koskinen anyways. Only danger is that if he plays good for 10 games, we have to extend him for 4.5Mx3

I genuinely wonder if the Oilers knew they had to play him in 10 games to keep his RFA rights. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't.
Hard to feel good about a Koskinen / Stolarz tandem next year. Like, extremely hard. But I predicted as much last summer.
Of course Cam Talbot had to be traded if he wasn't in the plans for next year. I assume that if the Oilers made a trade for a player, it was with the intention of it being for the future, past this season. If so, Koskinen and Stolarz it is. If not, that is a bad trade... every expiring contract should be in the mindset of building future assets, not for shuffling deck chairs for this season.
If people trot out the cap space clearing for Sekera as a reason for this trade, please laugh. With the recall of Sekera, the Oilers have 9 defenseman and could have sent Manning and Petrovic down to Stockton. It wasn't the only option, nor the best one.

Personally I liked Talbot and thought he could succeed behind a competent D group. Letting the first shot in was a concern but some of those first shots were grade AAA chances. Teams had seemed to figure out that shooting glove was his weakness. Really this trade just improves our draft lottery chances which is what we all should be cheering for anyways.
You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

That’s the thing. It’s very difficult to know if Talbot was good or not.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he did well on a go forward basis. Like most players that leave the Oilers, I’m happy for him.
