Sadly - that tweet only says Peter Chiarelli. Once again it's just one for one. Sigh.

Well, I can update my signature line...

This site has been a gem.

Every day ever since McLellan got the axe, I've been following it. Imagine my surprise when it finally changed...

The trades he did make this season were desperate, trades he forced himself into making that he shouldn't have.
That's on him, and the people that supported those decisions, including; K. Gretzky, McTavish, Howeson, pro scout staff, Nicholson, Lowe. The debacle is not over.

Just remember.

Either they let someone who was this close to being fired negotiate with Koskinen, which means the remaining management team is a bunch of idiots.

Or

Whoever's taking over from Chiarelli made that Koskinen deal. Which still means they're a bunch of idiots.

Let’s be honest, it was B. They all had a hand in the Koskinen deal. Who knows, maybe they were hoping everyone thinks it’s a Chia-gaffe and forgets about it now?

They are definitely a bunch of idiots who aren’t qualified to run a lemonade stand, never mind a professional sports franchise and their long resumes of failure mean that it’s unlikely anyone would hire them for any key role if the Oilers ever let them go. But they’re Friends of Katz, so they’ll slide by as always.

I just hope we get another press conference with Kevin Lowe soon...

On a related note, is this the end of the NHL career for Peter Chiarelli? I can’t see him coming back from this. It’s been so bad, and his record of brutal trades is so long now. I don’t care how popular the guy is, you’d have to be stupid to entrust him with another job.

Great timing, Oil- you waited until this season is all but down the toilet before making a move that you should have made last offseason at latest. You pack of @##@ing morons.

Now watch these assclowns announce that MacT is taking over as interim GM to put the finishing touches on the $@$% sandwich that the fans will have to finish eating this season.

The only reason they did this was because season renewals are going out in the next two weeks. They have zero interest in fielding a competitive team they just want to line their pockets. This team has focused on the entertainment in the broad sense and have lost focus on their core business and the primary stakeholder group. I am cancelling seasons after 15 yrs - just can't do it anymore.

We all know they all had a hand in all the decisions being made. Chiarelli was the meat shield to walk through the mine field and take all the bullets, now the OBC has to find someone else now that he's just a pair of smoking boots left.

Hopefully he feels maligned and starts spreading his side of the story through the media, just like McLellan did. Would be great to have more fuel on the dumpster fire here.

Chiarelli finally getting the axe will likely up Mclellan's chances of getting another NHL head coaching job. Just too bad the crap show had to go on for so long. Had they done this a year or more ago, more might have been able to be salvaged but as it is even an astute manager like Lou Lamorello would have a hard time fixing things. Gonna be though sledding for whoever takes it on.

Yeah, I’ll believe that they’re doing a real search when I see some evidence of it. It’s more likely that the dream team is running the show and intends to continue doing so. This GM search might go in to the same imaginary box as the forensic audit...

Interesting to note - MacTavish we were told was made #2 when Chia joined. Flash forward 4 years and MacT is still right there collecting cheques and helping the team collect 7th defenceman just like he was before Chia came in to the picture.

This organization disgusts me.

I think that the many pointed barbs at him near the end, combined with his crushing disappointment at what a desperate Chiarelli was doing may have driven him away. Poor guy...he really believed that a little positivity would help Panicky Pete find his way...only to learn that he came by that nickname honestly.

I'd bet a dime he was an employee of a PR firm contracted by the Oilers or Chia's agent or someone like that.

Hahaha! Well, he did say the Koski deal broke him, I think(?).

Yes, I did. The Manning deal pushed me right to the edge. Koskinen pushed me over.

Is Ales that pathetic that the only thing he posts is to bait me? What a champ.

I think that the many pointed barbs at him near the end, combined with his crushing disappointment at what a desperate Chiarelli was doing may have driven him away. Poor guy...he really believed that a little positivity would help Panicky Pete find his way...only to learn that he came by that nickname honestly.

Eh, all the best to him. I’m sure we’ll have another caped crusader lurk out from the shadows and (attempt to) make us all feel bad about our views on how poor the OEG runs a hockey franchise. Heck, perhaps it will be him under a new name.

If i had to guess, shoop was Keith Gretzky. Mission accomplished, he cheered Chia on making terrible move after terrible move and ended up with his job. Too busy to post here now :)

I'd bet a dime he was an employee of a PR firm contracted by the Oilers or Chia's agent or someone like that.

Once again, I'd like to offer myself out for hire. Buy my dissent.

I’d wager he was an individual close to Bob. If so and you’re still monitoring the site, hey, I know I’m from Sask but I’m 100% willing to relocate for a gig. Don’t be shy, together with Pi we can fix what ails the Oil. Hire us. Feel free to use Survivor58 as our resume. You’ll see.

The blathering sycophant Mark Spector posted his hatchet piece on Chia’s exit. As expected, he’s blamed everything squarely on Chiarelli with nary a mention of the ineptitude of those surrounding him who all still have jobs. Also, he hilariously brings up the Hall/Larsson trade as his example of Chiarelli’s blundering. Anyone who’s been around a while knows that Spector went to bat for that trade multiple times in the past...

Meanwhile some fascinating tweets by John Short tonight too:

- suggests that The Katz-run Oilers are more money-hungry than Pocklington.
- questions why a lame duck GM gets to sign a goalie to an albatross the day before he’s fired.
- says that Hitchcock had a bunch of influence with the OIlers BEFORE McLellan was fired!?!
- some back and forth with Paul Almeida about the need to expose the underbelly of the Oilers organization and the problems that lie therein!!!
- suggests that the Old Boys (“deep-rooted members of the Oilers Insider group” he calls them) may have had significant influence over the last 4 years.

All that has been covered in here, but it is nice to see some media member saying it - even if it’s a retired one. Now, do any of the current media guys have the courage to write that story?

If they do, this could be D-day!

Could we be getting our management purge?

Unlikely. But we can dream.

AT some point, the rumblings need to turn into roars from everyone in the MSM. We've had 8 Coaches, with the next hire, 5 GMs, and the entire roster has changed over multiple times, yet nothing changes. The one constant through all of this: Kevin Lowe. I have no doubt he really wants the team to win, but he and his friends are very obviously not cut out for it. He and his friends need to be shown the door.

I'll take Ken Holland once Stevie Y replaces him in Detroit after the season.

No one is going to want to touch this organization. Just look at the track record of those that have been here.

Why would anyone want to be a meat shield? Regardless of the kind of money the team throws your way... do you want your legacy to include total failure at the "head" of this damned franchise?

This is what has me concerned. Who's going to come to Edmonton? But, if they give someone a retirement level contract, why not? But then, that person has minimal initiative to perform.

Was the Koskinen deal a big FU to the organization on the way out? If so, well done Pete!

I had the same thought but doubt very much that "they" would let him make that decision on his own. I still think Koskinen can be a very good goalie if given a half decent defence to work with. That move was the least of "his " blunders. He just replaces Talbot at roughly the same money and Talbot is over unless he wants to come back at a reduced rate as second or backup.

An interesting article on Oilersnation about the goaltending.
https://oilersnation.com/2019/01/23/examining-nhl-goalie-mar ket/

The author pretty much covered every goalie one can think of that may be available and most of them are just as big of a gamble as Koskinen. The couple that probably aren't a gamble I think will cost too much.

It doesn't mean I like the signing, I still think it was done way too early. But I do not think this signing was a Chia signing, it was an organization signing. They looked at the market, looked at who could be available and decided they were better off keeping the guy they know. I am not sure it's the right call, I wouldn't have made the call right now but I don't think it was a Chia call.

I am not defending Chia by any means here, but he hasn't been all bad. This is the first time in a long time I'm actually excited about some of the prospects on the farm that weren't taken in the first 2 rounds. He has done a better job than his recent predecessors in cultivating some form of pipeline for the big team, or at least that's how it looks this year. Most of the top scorers down there can still be considered prospects unlike most of the last decade.
