Per Friedman on the Twitter machine.

Th 24 year old, 6'1" Centre, was placed on waivers by the Bruins. Looks like the scouts job is done!

Colby has played 20 games this season, has 1-4-5 with 18 shots, 8 PIMs and is a -1. Also has a 46.58 face off percentage this season.

Also played 3 games last season, racking up 2 PIMs and 2 shots.

This is where we all think this addition is for setting up something else big. In reality, Colby Cave is just another AHL'er added to this team.

Not to mention the Flyers waived Weiss today... meaning if he clears he can be included in a deal with the acquiring team burying his hit in the AHL. MAYBE SOMETHING IS BREWING

What's a Colby Cave? Can he skate? Does anyone have any information on him? Since they traded Strome for Spooner which has been crap, they have lacked a bottom 6 center. Doesn't look like Khaira is a center, he looks better on the wing.

He's from Sask so Stauffer will be happy.

Not surprised about Gambardella. He wasn't awful but he's a depth guy who's not ready to to be a full time NHLer.

Stauffer touting this as a pickup for Cave to play 4C, moving Khaira to the wing where he's more effective.

Cave under contract this year and next at $675,000 then is RFA.

ALSO! Saves 50 grand on the cap... Chia's on it!

ON weighed in on the claim;
https://oilersnation.com/2019/01/15/oilers-claim-colby-cave- on-waivers/

Cave is an undrafted free agent who signed with the Bruins in April of 2015. Interestingly enough, signing Cave to a three-year entry-level deal was one of the last things Peter Chiarelli did was general manager of the Bruins before getting fired, so there’s obviously a level of familiarity with this player. He’s now in the first year of a two-year, two-way deal worth $675,000 annually.

After three full seasons in the AHL, Cave is seeing his first real extended look at the NHL level this year. He played three games in an NHL cup of coffee last year and has played 20 games this year. Through 23 career NHL games, Cave has one goal and five points. Looking at Cave’s stats in the AHL and even in the WHL, he has never really been a big-time offensive producer. It seems his role is more as a depth player who can win faceoffs, play hard in the defensive zone, and kill penalties.

Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy spoke highly of Cave after a game in which he scored his first NHL goal back in December, suggesting his offensive game is coming around.

I’ve coached Colby in the minors before and seen him come up. He’s a terrific kid, team player all the way, will do whatever is asked of him,” Cassidy said. “He’s done a little more offensively in Providence this year and it’s translated here. He’s had a lot of good looks, not a ton but it’s usually once a game he gets a good look and this one gets in the back of the net.”

I still have some of the t-shirts they used to give even! So I think I know a little bit about winning, if that was ever a concern.

I subbed as a stay-at-home defense for this team during one of those championship season (one game - no points). I too know exactly one thing about winning. This, of course, was back before I was really terrible at hockey.

Ahhh...it's because he's a Bruins guy who Chiarelli had liked before...how many of those have we seen? Lucic, Benning...attempt on Hamilton. Familiarity is everything to Chia.

Talk to me when you're part of the Cup club. Otherwise - take your no winning elsewhere.

I have won SIX beer league hockey championships I'll have you know. There's almost no one in team management in my summer league that has won as many championships as me. I still have some of the t-shirts they used to give even! So I think I know a little bit about winning, if that was ever a concern.

Are you friends with an alcoholic that owns a alcohol production company?

No. My alcoholic friends just own beer fridges.

I'll take hockey players who won't be in the league in 2 years Alex.

With the pick up of this Cave, Gregor and Strudwick were debating the next roster move to make room for him. So who goes away to make room for him?

The guys you probably look at making a move on are:
Gravel
Manning

Rattie
Spooner
Yamo
JP

To me, the easiest is to put Yamo down. I don't think he is physically ready. That isn't a knock, he's a small guy, he's just not ready. He was hurt for a bit in Bakersfield, play a few games, got called up, got hurt in Edmonton. He's hasn't even played much in the last month so is he even in game shape?

But from my perspective, I don't give a damn about optics, I want the best players to play because I want them to win. If you decide to waive Spooner, so be it. The trade already sucked, it makes the trade look even worse and makes Chia look even dumber for making it but oh well. Play to win. Maybe someone picks him up and you lose the cap hit. If no one does, you still save some money and you can call him up later. Same goes for Manning. The trade was stupid but what's done is done. Ice the best roster you got, win some games.

The player Strome/Spooner was supposed to be at a FRACTION of the cost. If he can bring energy and win faceoffs, it’s not a terrible claim. Wait, is Spooner’s 3.1M cap hit still here?

While he isn’t a ‘sexy’ name (again), he fills a spot that we needed filled (bottom 6 C). Allows Khaira to go back to the wing where he’s more effective, or at least that’s what the propaganda tells me.

I wouldn't hate seeing both Yamamoto and Puljujarvi in the AHL. The window for Puljujarvi to play there is closing, and he hasn't looked much better under Hitchcock than he did with McLellan. He really has plateaued and isn't adding a whole lot... so might be worth trying to get him some touches in Bakersfield and hope he find his game there.

Yamamoto has hardly played this year, and doesn't look NHL-ready at all.

The bolded assumes you trust Chiarelli and the Oilers to, you know, be good at their jobs. Time will tell. Maybe a 4C was all that was needed and I'm the dummy.

This seems odd, did they not already send Gamo (read:Gambardella) down to Bako (read:Bakersfield)?

To activate Yamamoto they’d have to make a roster move. Which may result in a dman being waived.

Or there’s a trade brewing.

Well no, it’s not all that’s needed haha. Read the non bolded part; I don’t think/trust Chiarelli and Bobby Nicks.

I bet this guy has some hidden offensive potential.
