Okay. I admit it. I've been watching the Oil since the WHA. Even have the little wood hockey stick and pennant from a Roadrunners game.
Getting older and not much wiser.
There have been many times when I tell myself to just get on with other things ( after 10 -12 years of disappointment in current management) in life and forget about hockey but I can't.
It's in my blood. Played hockey from age 5 years old until 14 when playing music , other interests and girls trumped a fun but short lived hockey pursuit.
I still kept a clear focus on what was going on with NHL hockey no matter how derailed or busy my life became over the years.
It's always been a great cathartic release. An entertaining distraction, with a passion for the players and the team.
There are so many great memories as a young whipper snapper watching hockey ( Habs ( hated) , Leafs and Bruins) with my Dad ( Mom too) and many uncles and aunts, swearing at the refs and debating all things hockey.
Saturday night after Bugs bunny was a magical time. HNIC! ( Bob Cole was much better back then :-))
So many great memories of Oilers and Flames playoff battles.
Where this team is going now is all up for debate and discussion. I guess for now I'll keep watching and hoping for winning ways to find the great Oiler team again.
Maybe it's just all part of being a Canadian ( Edmonton) hockey fan?
The schedule looks promising for the next several games and we should get a glimpse of the teams future. Playoffs or no?
If nothing else McDavid is still entertaining as hell on most nights.
Go Oilers!
