Broadcast crew saying Talbot tore a strip off the team in the room after the warm up Sunday night. Apparently he wasn’t happy with how they where preparing.
Cool. Some extra leadership I was unaware of..

Fantastic defenseman, but I think Karlsson looks like a douche..
I keep expecting him to perform a magical act. Pull a rabbit from his helmet. Pull a coin from behind the referees ear.

Shameful edit.
It was Kane that shot it. I’ve stopped paying close attention to these games lately. That time of the season.

Let’s see if they sulk or fight back. Tired of that whole “sulking” excuse, you’d think professional athletes who have made it that far in life don’t have that in their system, but everyone is human I guess.

IMO the Edmonton Oilers must be exhaustive in their efforts to improve scoring depth up front and should be prepared to move their 2019 #1 if neccessary to acquire a legit top 6 FWD...with term...

So... basically, the Oilers have used their projection piece to tell the world that their 1st is in play.

2016/2017 - This Kool-Aid is starting to taste like juice.
2017/2018 - I'm drinking this Kool-Aid, in hopes that it's Drain-O.
2018/2019 - Another round of Drain-O, good sir!

Hopefully they don’t let the jackass do anything.
Likely to pull another Reinhart deal. He’s still got it in him obviously. Fresh off that dumbass Manning deal.

I'm still not sure how we manage a legit top 6 forward with term under the cap? Chia has spent our cap space like a drunken sailor on leave. Not only do we have next to nothing available this year, but next year is already tight too.
We've added $3.1MM for Spooner and 2.25MM for Manning to next year's cap (yes, I know we had Strome too - but we still have to replace the player, since Spooner can't crack the lineup). The only UFAs of note are Chiasson and the goalies and they're going to need a couple netminders, even if these aren't the two. Rieder is our most expensive RFA at $2MM. Basically, every big ticket player is still under contract for next year. $68MM committed already to next year with the goalie and the top right wing to resign or replace.
Not to mention, if we have a big trade to make including an important valuable piece like the first round pick, I would prefer we have someone else making the trade. We know what we'd get with Chiarelli - someone who was a high draft pick four or five years ago who's disappointed since then. Possibly with one anomaly season where they put up points with an exceptionally high one-time PDO or personal shooting percentage. Likely someone with some size and a bit of "sandpaper" to their game.

Barkov? No... too consistent AND Florida’s Captain.
Ooooh... Galchenyuk! Sending the first to Arizona will be spun in a way by Bob saying that they move to the Central when Seattle comes in.

The way this season is going that 1st could easily be a top 5 pick. If they trade it for anyone older than 23 it's a mistake. This team isnt one or two pieces away. They need to be looking at 3 years from now, at a minimum, as their window.
Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

New 5 year plan?
Get all the 5'9/10 skill wingers we can get our hands on and trade away all these C's like Nuge and Drai to get them.
Still keep stocking up on overpaid 6/7 stay home D's though. Those never go out of style.

That's a full reset if that's the case. With the top end that this team has, if it had competent management, they could be a contender quicker. Would need to work to clean up the cap management issues, but you can always sell problems or fake career-ending ailments...

I don't think any management group is turning this team around in less than 3 years now. There is nothing left to trade. There is no cap space to do anything with. Chia added Spooner and Manning to screw over whoever his replacement is next year (intentional?).
There are no reliable puck movers on this team except for Klef, that's it. Need 2 more fully hitting their stride in the NHL at least. Maybe some are here in development, but they are still 2-3 years away from being guys that can do a fully season at a high level. Got no wingers too obviously. Might not have any goalie this summer either.
Just too many moves needed, too much cap increases needed and too much asset value that needs to be built back up via the draft. Gonna take years. And the longer we wait, the more damage the OBC and Chia can do to make it take longer.

Ya, I think this pretty much covers it for me. I do think that a competent management team could do something with the forward group in less than 3 years, but the lack of cap flexibility makes that trickier.
But it's the defence and goaltending that worry me the most. Klefbom is great, but you can pretty much count on him to miss 15-20 games a season. Larsson is not nearly as effective and imo isn't a top pair defenceman when paired with pretty much anyone else. Nurse is looking like he'll top out as a decent top 4 but I dont think he's driving that pairing, and still makes a lot of questionable plays in his own end. Sekera is a giant question mark. Russell is playing 2-3 spots above his ability. And if the plan is that Jones and Bouchard are going to ride in and save the day in the next couple of years, then this team is doomed.

I thought Petrovic could have kept skating and actually tried to play the puck/stick than hold him.
Perhaps when I rewind between periods I will be wrong.

Thought that was a pretty generous penalty shot. Definitely got fouled, but I don't think he ever had a clear breakaway.

Agree, the guy never got clear, and was barely handling the puck.

Nice slide, Russell.
Crazy thing is it could be 5-1 if not for a couple big stops from Talbot. Ugly start. Again.

That wild slide is at least a good sign that Russell is 100% again.

Pretty ugly from both of the defencemen on that play. Jones got walked pretty easily, and then Russell not only goes down, but is actually sliding out of the way as he drops. He's almost behind the goal line when the puck goes in.

Jones went for the bait and got caught on that third one and yeah, Talbot looking pretty average right now. So a crazy lucky one and a penalty shot that shouldn't have been a penalty shot, otherwise it's even. Not bad for having been totally dominated in that period. They must have run out of smelling salts.

Every time they have possession in our end, it's like we're on a PK. Every time we have it in their end, we lose the puck within 5 seconds.
Painful to watch

Poor dadbot... Can’t blame him for the PS. Two skate deflections. Can’t imaginee he’ll have many positive things to say about his teams performance, same with Hitch.
