Fire Todd

chaging up lines while winning. Ignores Lucic killing minimum 2 plays per shift out there with McDavid/Drai.

Team does their usual thing of playing scared out of their pants with a lead. Lucic stapled out there for the 6 on 5.

So tired of it

Yup that's awful. I thought ok run him out there a couple shifts. Calgary has no one you need to protect players from. Incredible that Lucic finished the game on that line when flow & offense were needed.

Bad penalties mystifying line combos that were stuck with. Disappointing, this game was there.

110%. Having Lucic on that line is like putting a trailer hitch on a Ferrari. TMac looked like he was desperately trying to preserve the lead after it had turned into a deficit. Benning and Russell were brutal for giveaways and panic passes. Other Russell was running around aimlessly on the PK. Stealing defeat from the jaws of victory- an Oiler tradition.

Last night on 1260 Millard is challenging callers, “well who should be out there then? Rattie, Caggiula?”

Although the options are not great, the answer is NOT a play killing plug with 2 broken wrists.

Challenging callers. What an idiot. Millard nailed it. Rattie or Caggiula would have been both great answers. They can skate with 97 and 29. Hell. Why not load up the line with Nuge from time to time and then double shift one of the three centres.

How much leash does coach Todd get? So frustrating

After multiple years now of seeing Lucic give pucks away and waste opportunities on a 6 on 5, the only answer is definitely "anyone but Lucic".

Ales Cooper and I were texting during the game and he advocated having Lucic on the top line because the weasels were taking liberties with McDavid. We have Kassian, Caggiula and Nurse who are all willing to mix it up if anyone does that. Instead, TMac should have correctly played Lucic for a few shifts to let the weasels know the Oilers are willing to go postal, then he should have reverted back to offence. Watching the Oilers run around in their own end for 2-minutes shifts was so frustrating and inevitably led to goals against. "Ice tilting" happens far too often when the blender comes out.

This loss is on the coach... Squarely on Todd for not flexing and being reactive to how the game changed. Sure... We played a poor third period but my God, how you coach so poorly is beyond belief. Unbelievable

Hell is the impossibility of reason. TMac and the notion of reasoning ate clearly strangers to each other based on his continuing predilection of having Loo on the top line despite his complete lack of production. He’s had #97 to cover for his lack of coaching ability, but there are only so many miracles that McJesus can perform in behalf of his clueless cretin of a cosch. FIRE HIM ALREADY!!!! angryfire

Lucic was a needed deterrent for the first two periods. The 3rd. One goal lead? Jeebus. If you are that worried about tkachuk still, and you shouldn’t be at that point, put Kassian on the top line.

Todd lost the game for us. Frack me.

I turned it off after the 3rd goal, saw that s**t show too many times before in my life as an Oiler fan.

They dominated the pukes but couldn't put the freaking rubber in the net. Refs were bad, one-sided discipline IMHO, had to deal with way too many PK's, those THREE roughing calls on Kassian were a new invention.

Koskinen played well, Spooner indicated he might be an upgrade over Stromer.

If Talbot craps out tomorrow, I'm calling goalie controversy.

If someone doesn't rip Tkachuk's head off his shoulders the next time we play I'll be disappointed. Spent the whole game trying to goad McDavid into a fight or anyone else who doesn't fight then as soon as anyone taps his shoulder to say he stop that, turtles.

Shocking way to end what was quite a great game up till them scoring at the end of the second. Had been prepared to say had we been 2-0 up we'd played perfectly to that point, but nope it all turned round didn't it.

That last 20 wasn't the worse I've seen us play, but was one of the worse periods I've seen us play. We've been here before calling coaches out over the years, how many times do we have to do it before we find the right one? If indeed we'll ever find the right one again??

Yeah, but good teams make their own breaks rather than sit back and hope for them to drop out of the sky.

Whenever the opposing teams make ajustments to their game we don't seem to have an answer. This has happened since Todd M has been here. We just need a totall house cleaning with PC and the old boys club. I'm not confident this gruop will improve. I'm scared what trade PC will make to save his job.no true puck moving defenseman. Not true wingers that can score. Mcdavid has really masked how bad this team is. If God forbid he got hurt we would be a lottery team yet again

You are right, but the coach is a contributing factor here.

I was delighted when he put Lucic out there due to our key players getting roughed up early in the game, but it really needs to end right there. You could see the chippy play evaporating like vapor in the second period.

No opponent coach is going to goon it up in a tight 3rd period with a division opponent. Also, no smart coach is going to reward a plug for playing a strong 2 periods with important ice time in the 3rd period, but this HC does for some reason.

Was it that shot off the shoulder of Rittich that gave the HC a hunch to run with big Loo? Is it the 2 goals Lucic has amassed since December 27, almost a calendar year ago? And these plug-like numbers are not because he’s been relegated to the 4th line without a sniff of PP time. He’s been walking on red carpet pretty much the entire time he’s been an Oiler. This organizations obsession with seeing this PLUG have success has been crippling to their own success.

And yes, any player that has only scored 2 goals in almost a calendar year with Carte Blanche PP time and 1st line time with the best player on the planet is a PLUG. That’s not snake bitten. That’s not gripping the stick. It’s CERTAINLY not being put into a position to succeed. That’s a PLUG. But that’s who is flanking the worlds best player when trailing in the 3rd period against a division rival on HNIC no less. Freaking embarrassing.

It’s like we have a midget coach from the 80’s behind the bench. Fire him already.

This game is a perfect example of a young team being coached by an old thinking coach. Speed and tenacity killed them in the 3rd. 2nd period should of been kill Tkachuk. Take him out of the game, Calgary loses. Let that clown shadow your top line (same way Kadri killed us first few games last year), and you re going to lose the game. I wish we would of somehow traded Lucic and keep Maroon. Maroon on the top line had a larger presence, with some skill to compliment. Lucic is just a nuke out there, and nothing else. 2 goals in what 65-66 games now? He should be on the third line crushing guys. This has to be one of the final nails in the coffin for TMC. Let Gulutzan run the bench for the year, and hope to God someone else is available. Can't lose 4 point games to the F-Lames like that, letting that lil s%$t run free. What a gutless player!

The Oilers have lost what, 6 of their last 7? And if they lose tomorrow? Man, they have to be calling coach Q.

Coach Q won't be able to change the roster.

Exactly.
If a team struggles to win with the greatest player in the world on it, your problems are beyond line combinations and motivational speeches.

I disagree. This team has had big problems with player utilization in the McDavid era. Maybe a better coach wouldn't have left Lucic on the top line for the 40 games last season where Lucic couldn't find the net with a road map and tour guide. Maybe a better coach could have used Puljujarvi and Yamamoto in a way that was more suited to them. Maybe a better coach wouldn't have used the power play as a rewards for being a good grinder. Maybe a better coach wouldn't pretend Russell was a stalwart defender. Maybe a better coach doesn't plan to let his starter play every game in the first month no matter how much he struggles.

It is possible that, despite Chiarelli's obvious asset mismanagement, the Oilers could be better than their record.

They both suck, but you don’t get the GM change until he gets his coach change, so let’s get it done ASAP. We won’t miss Todd and his 90’s coaching style one bit.

A goal on one of those break aways and we probably win the game but.... Calgary got fired up after their first goal ( a pp goal after how many tries? the reffing was pro Flames all the way ) and really took it to us after that and we were on our heels. McDavid couldn't even do much in the third. They were all over us and badly out shot us after the second. Seemed like Mclellan was just looking for an excuse to put big Lucic back on the first line and he got it when a couple of players went down. Bad decision, it grounded our best line. We bought into the Flames cheap shot tactics and in the end it cost us the game.( playing almost a third of the game short handed ) They played smart and we didn't. They also have more players that can score when they get the chance. Goal tending was about even. Very disappointing four point loss. Pretty easy to shut down a one line team.

McLellan made us a 0 line team with his brilliant shuffling.

Hopefully we get a chance to see what better coaching can do with this group of players.
