Good size and one of the better skaters in the draft. Raw but good pick. Solid prospect.

Was hoping for Wilde , McLeod was expected to go much earlier. Another late birthday. Sounds like a 3rd line centre with room to move up.
Watch out. We may have a farm team with real prospects yet.

Never heard of him before yesterday, that isnt a criticism of I just dont follow junior much.
Things I am reading today;
- "man" size already
- fast, especially for his size
- read a comparison to Rick Nash
- Can play wing as well
- every scouting report/pre-draft list I found had him in the 20's overall so in theory good value at #40
Good summary here;
https://thehockeywriters.com/ryan-mcleod-2018-nhl-draft-pros pect-profile/
Bonus; Brother is a devils prospect. We will have top end family ties around the league, not just in the org if all of these guys make the big club.

He is listed at 206 pounds according to NetBog. I Would worry that if he fills out much more it could hurt his speed.
If he does get stronger but not lose much speed he could have a good chance to be an NHL power forward.

The troubles his brother is having makes me nervous about Ryan McLeod. But he is his own individual, hopefully all works out.
I would have liked Addison, Wilde, Durzi, or Thomas. But this isn't off the board which I appreciate. I know three are RHD, but those are literally the most valuable pieces in the NHL right now, and the Oilers have been hunting for them for so long. Thomas was a guy that slipped.
But again, this isn't a bad pick, might turn out fine.

He's supposed to be a great skater. Big, centers that can fly. YES PLEASE!!
Load up on centers and wingers is what I think teams should do. You can always turn a center into a winger if needed and other teams are always looking for centers or dmen in trades. Plus he was ranked mid first round and you get him at 40. Even better.

Watched some highlights and he looks like he has all the tools to be a really good player. Heard that many had him ranked to go in the first round so another lucky bounce for the Oilers.

it’s amazing to me how few Canadian players shoot right while actually being right handed. It’s ridiculous.

Somebody did a study on this. Apparently it has to do with what sport you first play as an infant. In U.S.A. the first thing a little kid does is throw a baseball or football. This lets the dominant hand take over. In Canada it is usually a hockey stick playing shinny. For some reason the dominant hand goes to the top of the stick.
The study found that in the warm province of B.C., more kids start with baseball than the rest of Canada. So more right handed hockey players come from B.C.
Also Benning's dad apparently forced him to play right as a kid and now that's basically why he's in the NHL.

Somebody must be doing something at the Oilers head office; like signing prospects
https://www.tsn.ca/oilers-ink-mcleod-to-3-year-entry-level-d eal-1.1299234
"The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Ryan McLeod to a three-year entry-level contract, starting next season.
McLeod has also agreed to an AHL amateur tryout contract and will join the American Hockey League's Bakersfield Condors immediately.
The 19-year-old McLeod had 62 points (19 goals, 43 assists) in 63 games with Mississauga and Saginaw in the 2018-19 Ontario Hockey League season. The native of Mississauga, Ont., added 12 points (five goals, seven assists), a plus-8 plus-minus rating in 17 playoff games with the Spirit."
The kid has potential. Let's see what can be made of it."

Chiarelli!!!! Shakes fist.
Unless he's good, then everyone agreed he was good. Right?

Very solid move by Kretzky. I would add this to his resume of solid net positive moves since he was made interim-GM. Really, he has done nothing but positive things from day 1, he is batting 1.000. We should just give him the GM job.

I love his size, speed and skill. Probably needs a year or 2 but he screams 3rd line center to me. The Oilers seem to have lots of dmen coming. Slowly but surely they are starting to develop some forward prospects.

Capfriendly has it unconfirmed at 925,000. Which, if true, is a pretty high ELC for second rounder.
In isolation it isn't a huge deal, but you overpay every contract by a couple hundred thousand when you don't have too, and it adds up. Plus you have to qualify them higher for their second contract.
EDIT: Nevermind, fine print says $925,000 is placeholder used until deal is confirmed.

Oilers loan forward Ryan McLeod to EV Zug of the Swiss National League to start the season.
Ken Holland working hard to have many of his young prospects playing games.

I love it!!! I think McLeod has a future with the Oilers but he needs to play.
I wonder if we are seeing the small benefits of Holland here and maybe he has more contacts than others? Getting Euro players signed to loan deals, I expected. I didn't expect NA players getting that because I think most of those Euro leagues have limits on how many "imports" they can have. I could be wrong but I thought that was the case.

It feels like the team has had a lot of great d-men coming for a long long time. Are there any main management people in the org that used to play D that might be ruining development?

I think we are good hand with Dave Manson down in Bakersfield. I haven’t had a complaint about our prospect grooming since the removal of Chiarelli. Maybe Holland tells Lowe where to go and how to get there?
