This could be a real deal guy for the top 6 in 3-4 years. Had a great playoff & was really solid after he was traded mid year.

Heard on the radio this morning that some people are thinking this could be the steal of the draft. Big guy, a beast on the boards, and has a hard shot. Here's hoping he pans out.

Some of Chia's big moves have been questionable but he seems to do well at the draft. Jones and Bear are later round picks. You hear good things about Jones and Bear looks like he's getting close. People keep raving about Safin. This Maksimov looks like he's got something. He's in junior but it's always good to hear players getting better and better rather than the other way.

I'm really hesitant to congratulate anyone on the draft before it has played out a little more. Yes, people are excited about Bear and Jones - but it wasn't so long ago that people were raving about Stu McGregor's picks. I remember people crowing about the pipeline of defence with Marincin and Musil and Gernat and Simpson...
It's too early to slam picks or applaud them. Hopefully Bear continues on the right path - he looks good so far. And hopefully the team doesn't believe that because they have one good young defenceman who's capable of moving the puck that it suddenly frees them up to liquidate another one for lesser assets like they always do...

Adam, I don't expect you to give Chia credit for anything which it totally fine. Chia could get Sekera to waive his no move, pull off a jedi mind trick on Dorian and get him to agree to take Sekera and a pick for Karlsson. Then the Oilers could sign Karlsson to the exact same money as Sekera and you would complain that the pick was too high, the Oilers weakened their left side and the term of the deal was too long.

I thought Adam gave a pretty balanced response.
You can't really applaud or slam at the moment.
His Glorious Bastard example was a damn good one too. History and statistics indicates the drafting then was a unholy tire fire, but we were all "Oil Changing" it up big time back then.

Except you KNOW that's exactly what they think. You just don't want to admit it.

....getting back to Maksimov...looks like he is making progress...tiny steps, to be sure, but seems to be fitting in, among others, with the program..

The Russian whipped a wrister high glove to get Team Gretzky within one on his second.

I ignored what Howson said and pay more attention to what other people have said. He's got some size, skates well, right shooting, has a big shot, likes to shoot, nose for the net, has skill, playing in the OHL and continues to get better each year. He was drafted in the 5th round so the chances that a guy in the 5th makes the NHL aren't good but it sure sounds like he has a legit shot.

Not to derail a Maksimov thread but wow that McLeod is a great skater. Looks effortless.

This guy is going to be a sniper in the NHL, can't wait until he matriculates. Another year in the O and one in the A. He has dual Russian/Canadian citizenship, born in Canada, and played midget AAA in Toronto. So IMO there is a better chance he stays here once he gets in the system and doesn't pull the chute and bolt to the KHL, like Bogdan Yakimov, others..

Another Condor loaned to the KHL.. CKSA Moscow
Good idea, hopefully he gets some ice time there. Still better than NO ice time in the AHL.
California is politically on the side of keeping restrictions for as long as possible.. I don't see Condors playing there until there is a vaccine, which won't be until 2021 at earliest.
Need to find homes for the rest of the roster.

Probably for the best if our athletes aren't there. California's been a hot spot lately. There's some suggestion that this can have long-term damaging impacts on your lungs, which could be really bad if you're an elite athlete...

Russia is just as bad as the US and Brazil. All run by autocrats that believe doing a little less damage to the economy is worth thousands of deaths. Moscow will be worse than small city California.

You make a good point. And in Russia, it's more likely that they won't treat you so that you can't say you had COVID in Russia...

Just heard that Maksimov just got waived unconditionally.. Not sure why you "waive" him.. he's waiver exempt.. Maybe he wanted out? Can't believe they are losing him for nothing, he's got some talent. He's RFA next year.
Quote: | EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers activated defenceman William Lagesson from Injured Reserve and placed prospect Kirill Maksimov on unconditional waivers Monday.
Lagesson, 25, has appeared in 27 career National Hockey League games, compiling two assists. After being activated, the Swede was loaned to the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League.
Maksimov was selected 146th overall by the Oilers in Round 5 of the 2017 NHL Draft. He recorded five goals and eight assists in 53 career matches with the Condors.

Why terminate this guy's contract, he's two years removed from scoring 40 goals in 63 games in the OHL. nobody out there was willing to send a pick our way?
You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Because he refused assignment and wanted to play in Russia. If the guy won't show up for your team what are you supposed to do with him?

Loan him to Beijing or Ufa.

Yeah, get on top of it. Call up Chiarelli in STL and tell him you're sending him the next Datsyuk.

I think I heard it implied he refused assignment to the ECHL, I can understand him getting pissed off considering some of the guys they have at forward in Bako, not a lot of skilled talent on the roster, you'd think he'd play above them. But then again he wasn't even playing in the KHL team back in Russia he was on the VHL team.. looks like another Bogdan Yakimov.. shame, I think he could have developed into something.. not many 6'4" guys scoring 40 goals in the OHL..
