Official date and time released.

Saturday, April 18th at 6pm Mountain time.

Biggest day of the year for Oiler fans.

Can someone explain the draw process to me? Me math no good. This is taken from the article:

Quote:

Fourteen balls, numbered 1 to 14, are placed in a lottery machine. The machine randomly selects four balls. The resulting four-number series (without regard to selection order) is matched against a chart that shows all possible combinations and the Clubs to which each is assigned.

Such a waste of time, they already know who is going to win, just tell us already :)

Here's a video of one of the lotteries:

http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/?id=243891

So just think of the numbers as 1 entry each. Like if they draw 5, 3, 14, 10, then the result is these 4 entries, "3, 5, 10, 14" which is a group of 4 entries pre-assigned to a specific team.

Only issue is, they go through all that trouble of picking 4 numbers, then some guy just walks in and says "oh, that's Colorado's number". Uh...let's see the list of assigned combinations before the draw please :)

this is your best idea yet. (I'm not joking) We should band together with the fans of the other bottom feeders and troll the NHL on twitter to have them release the numbers. Of course, like salaries, I'm sure they'll tell us that we have no interest in that.

This is how the process works:

Balls numbered 1 to 14 will be placed in a lottery machine.
Machine randomly selects four balls.
Resulting four-number series (without regard to selection order) is matched against a chart that shows all possible combinations and the teams to which each is assigned.
The four-digit number combinations — 200 to the Buffalo Sabres, 135 to the Arizona Coyotes and so on — will be posted on the league's website Friday, and video of the drawing will be available after it is conducted.

Sweet!

Now we just have to question if the video we're watching is pre-recorded or that the lottery machine and the numbers on the balls are digitally overlayed on the video to pre-selected numbers for the team they want to win deadhorse

What? No no, no one outside of Edmonton thinks the team is in that bad a shape.

As per http://http://grantland.com/the-triangle/the-nhl-draft-lotte ry-power-rankings/

The “Under Absolutely No Circumstances” Power Rankings

No. Just no.

5. Edmonton Oilers — They’re a tire fire, a train wreck, a running joke, a black hole from which no hope or happiness can ever escape. You might as well load McDavid into a nuclear submarine and fire him into the Mariana Trench.

4. Edmonton Oilers — Also, they already had the first overall pick three seasons in a row just a few years ago. Literally nobody wants this to happen.

3. Edmonton Oilers — Connor McDavid seems like a perfectly nice kid. Why would you do this to him? Why?

2. Kansas City Scouts — Wait, are they still in the league? No? OK, then in that case …

1. Edmonton Oilers — Look, I’m all for fairness and integrity, but if the Oilers win the lottery, then the league absolutely has to scrap the results and run it again. Don’t even delete the footage or try to cover it up — just have Bill Daly walk into the frame screaming, “Take two!” while angrily stuffing Ping-Pong balls back into the machine. Every hockey fan will understand.

You missed one...

The “Break the Internet” Power Rankings

Finally, the most important category of all: Which result would cause instant chaos, immediately crash Twitter, and plunge the hockey world into a decades-long civil war? It goes without saying that if you’re not a hockey fan, these are the results you should be rooting for.

5. Edmonton Oilers — See above.

...

2. Los Angeles Kings — The worst-case scenario comes to life. Everyone goes into full-fledged panic mode, especially fans of Western Conference teams who realize they now have no hope for the next decade and immediately turn to Oilers fans for advice on how to handle that.

I figured this could go to the Oilers forum as it is the only pregame, game day and game review thread we'll have that has mattered since the last lottery.

Only 28 hours to go. Wooo.. go balls.

Edit for math... Friday afternoon kicking in for me!

Just a heads up, the advertising is all saying 5:30 PM MT tomorrow. I'm guessing its the same 30 minute show so they probably won't release the results until 5:45.

Here are the best numbers for the Oilers:

1 = 8.74
2 = 12.24
3 = 10.49
4 = 10.49
5 = 13.99
6 = 9.44
7 = 9.44
8 = 11.54
9 = 12.59
10 = 10.84
11 = 13.99
12 = 13.99
13 = 10.84
14= 12.24

Essentially this is how the odds change after the first ball is chosen.

5-9-11-12 though would result in a win for Buffalo.

I hope Philly gets McDavid and that pushes Arizona out of the McEichel slots.

Of course the Oilers get pushed down one but they have had three first overall picks. No more!

I know people don't want MacT et al to get another lifeline, but we really do all need to be praying/crossing our fingers/sacrificing goats/whatever in the hopes that McDavid is a de facto Oilers at 530 tonight.

This is our Cup! We're due, right? It's been three years. We used to draft 1st overall every year! I know we gotta pull the upset, but I believe. I believe!

Ya gotta believe boys! Ha ha ha!

This is like Christmas morning when you get a better version of the thing you expected.

I know people don't want MacT et al to get another lifeline, but we really do all need to be praying/crossing our fingers/sacrificing goats/whatever in the hopes that McDavid is a de facto Oilers at 530 tonight.

This IS our playoffs!

For 1 day a year since 2010 (excluding 2013), Oiler fans get to have a little hope.

I'm so excited, my 5 year plan starts tonight!

6:00 pm - Watch the NHL announce the Oilers win the Draft Lottery

April 20th - Get the news that Bob Nicholson fires everyone from Kevin Lowe all the way down to the scout staff

June 26th - Oilers draft Connor McDavid

July 2015 - Oilers announce Mike Babcock as coach

June 2018 - Oilers win Stanley Cup

2019 - I win the $50 Million Lotto Max

2020 - I marry a supermodel

I've set realistic goals and since all of this seems plausible I am not setting up myself for disappointment.

The biggest day of the year for an Oiler fan is tonite.
Some team fans have to fritter away their time watching their team compete for the cup. If only they were as lucky as us.

Whew. I am excited. We should hire back Tambo today and put him in that room.

The nice thing is that unlike the Playoffs, the Draft Lottery offers instant gratification. There isn't that 2 month will-they-won't-they build up of a Cup win, it's just BANG! You win or you lose. It really is way better this way, right? Right???

Normally I wouldn't bump a three year old thread to make a cheap joke, but you linked to the 2015 draft lottery thread from the future and it's your post so....

I'm a little worried about your plans for the next two years.

This is so depressing. Only two of those came true so far :

Oilers winning the Draft Lotto and the Oilers drafting McDavid.
