Interesting that Smith has Fuhr's name and number painted on his mask. Maybe he can channel ol' Grant in the playoffs assuming that they make it......

So, how long has it been since an Oilers goalie last posted a shutout?

This has been a good night: the Oilers won and the Flames lost big (to the worst team in the league, no less). Time for some celebratory libations.

So it has been- when a team has coughed up as many goals as the Oil have, shutouts are like rare gems. If they keep playing like this, however, maybe that GA total will climb its way further up the list...

While the total GA looks bad in the league standings it is skewed because of the big discrepancy in GP this year.
With this current run of solid goaltending the Oilers are now below 3 goals against per game. 65 in 22.
There are very few here who believe the goaltending box is checked but right now we are in the middle of good play back there and it is a big reason for the climb up the standings.
The team has enough firepower they dont need elite play, they just need good enough from the goalie to give them a chance to win. 3 GA per game average should be enough most nights.
