Zykov played five games for the Oilers. His icetimes were:
11:41
7:01
4:42
5:58
6:18
Two penalty minutes, no shots, no points, -1.
Maybe Hitchcock saw something he really didn't like in practice, but I'd say that he didn't get much of a shot.
That said, it's not like there's a deep roster of wingers that he needed to shove aside to get a shot here...
Oh well, it didn't cost us anything. It's going to be more embarrassing when it's Spooner on waivers...

0 pucks fired on net in 33 minutes of game time. Not kidding he didn't get much of a shot.

The guy hardly played and really wasn't given an opportunity to show his stuff. He'll probably end up playing in Anaheim and finish next season second in team scoring behind that other guy we gave up on at the beginning of the season who plays top minutes on their first line and is on their power play. (Aberg ) re arranging the deck chairs again to make it look like I'm actually doing something?

Nov 15: Trade F Ryan Strome for F Ryan Spooner
Nov 21: Trade 6th round pick for D Chris Wideman
Nov 30: Claimed F Valentin Zykov on waivers
Dec 29: Lost Zykov on waivers to LV
Chiarelli making some loser roster moves lately (again) .. I think he just throws darts at the wall. Spooner, and Wideman were both bad calls by the pro-scouting, and Chiarelli. Watch Zykov fill the net in LV. Guy never got a chance, giving away a gift without even opening the wrapping paper.

P. Chiarelli math.. T. Hall = A. Larsson, Yak= bag o'pucks (OK he got one right...) K. Russell = $4.1 M+NMC, G. Reinhart= M. Barzal + A. Beauvillier, J. Eberle = R. Spooner,

Just another cut among the thousand, or are we closer to dying from 2 thousand now?
Odds are low that this is a massive error, and the team gave up nothing to get him.
My issue is that it was completely unnecessary, another deck chair moved.
When I heard Russell was close I assumed this move was required because someone had to go to make room but no, it was to call Yamo up.
I like Yamo, I think he is fun to watch at times and might be a player some day, but there is ZERO need to call him up now, even less so when the cost is losing a player.
Maybe this is what Hitch meant about coaching VS winning? It is the only brightside I see and hope I have. Maybe Hitch has some bright spot he sees that coaching Yamo on can accelerate his dev

There is no way this guy isn't gonna score on us for Vegas.

Hitchcock has got to see all his options in person. I think it is an unnecessary move made necessary by the organizational tire fire. With Chiasson on the IR, Yamo can play and show Hitch what he's got.

Just remembering when Hitch was saying there were analytics the Oilers dug into that showed Zykov could fill a major hole for us and he does well the stuff we know we are poor at.
And the guy barely gets a chance to play at all and is waived :)

Hitch actually mentioned analytics after we acquired Zykov. He also has said in other interviews that he uses analytics to figure our red zone scoring chance info.
Chia also mentioned analytics before, like how one group told him Russell was #2 behind Karlsson for some category. I think it was plays made leading to zone exits, or maybe zone entries, I forget.
Using analytics, and hiring good people to ensure you're using analytics well can be very different things I suppose. Lots of companies out there now that will sell you data or access to sites to generate reports. Maybe our analytics department is just MacT and Chia logging onto sites, and I guess Hitch too.

Yeah who really knows. I thought it was Gregor that said they don’t care about analytics. But it might have been during one of his awesome rants lately. One thing I will say about Jason, he’s not afraid to lay into the GM and OBC these days. Maybe it wasn’t Jason, but rather someone else talking on 1260. Nonetheless he’s been great to listen to after some of these trades, call ups etc.

I know McLellan didn't give 2 craps about analytics. Many times while he was here he was take shots at analytics nerds and how they don't know how the game is really played and how they just stay home and never show up to the rink to get a good laugh from Matheson, Spector and the like.
