That's $3,438,462 that isn't in a player's pocket.

Why the F wouldn't you push the issue? That overage covers a bunch of buyout money in a key season for the team. Why is every oilers GM terrible in so many ways?

Maybe he's letting the NHLPA do the dirty work.. they have the strongest legal claim

But the Oilers also have a claim, and he could say that that was one of the reasons he thought this contract was attractive to take on last year at full value.

It doesn't really make sense to have the Oilers once again just meekly accepting another serving of gruel from the NHL - especially when we could probably use $3MM to add a nice piece.

He could.. but this is the better route.. the NHL can just make up rules (and routinely does) regarding its teams.. can't do that with the NHLPA

I think it's best if you are seen fighting for what's best for you. The NHLPA doesn't have the Oilers best interests at heart any more than the Oilers do, and so the remedy may not be in our favour.

Also, it opens up two fronts against the NHL on this.
